Since he is now slated to fight Roy Jones Jnr on 20th September, look what little piece I managed to dig out of his Autobiography, published only last year.
"Although Jones Jnr is still active, I would never want to fight him now. He's not the same fighter and I'd have nothing to gain by beating a shadow of what he once was. Jones was a great fighter in his day and a great name, but he's been knocked out twice, knocked out cold. What would I have to gain by knocking him out for a third time?"
I thought I remembered reading it, and managed to find it again.
Yeah. JC often contradicts what he says. Check out this video where he says that after Hopkins, he wants KELLY PAVLIK! Calling him out...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=kUEDwhGxnyE
LOL at Hopkins. "Watch that Straight Right Hand, It comes from Nowhere!" He should have listened before he got put on his ass.
Then him and Frank Warren tried to say Roy ducked him. Calzaghe has specifically said in the past that in Roy's prime, he thought he was unbeatable and didn't want to fight the legend. It wasn't until the first Tarver fight that Calzaghe saw that he was becoming human. Then Warren comes out with this BS that Hopkins and Jones have been ducking JC for years. Don't get me wrong, I think JC is extremely talented and fun to watch, but I do not believe he is on the same tier as prime Hopkins, Jones, or Toney. In fact, I believe Hopkins and Jones would have stopped him in their primes...
Word! Calzaghe didn't want none of ROY, he would have made joe a laughing stock of the 90's. Joe knew that, reason he never made it happen..... lol Joe was scared and admitted it.. now he wants jones because Pavlik hits to hard and Jones lost a few.... its cool, will be a good fight.... I have Jones coming out on top.... The Prime jones and the OLD jones both have too much speed, too much power and just too much boxing ability for little joey... Jones double, and triple left hooks will just over whelm him.... while JOE tries to counter with his slaps, roy will probably stick his tongue out..... wave at him and probably hit at will... SERIOUSLY..... lol
just playin', im just talking my shit about little joey.
Jones VS Calzaghe will be a good fight. Like I have said. Jones comes out on top if he shows up 100% like he said he will.....
how can you be the greatest british boxer when your punches look like a girls punches. sorry but without the marketing machine he would never have been the peoples champion. if you think of boxing as what it was rather than what it is today, his style would not have inspired peoples hearts or imaginations. respect to him forhis achievements but i dont think he deserves top spot. i'm no expert tho.
i dont see how overnight calzaghe deemed to be "greatest british boxer ever?" maybe i'm showing my ignorance but isn't he being judged on his c.v rather than the qualities that make a 'great' boxer?
Calzaghe has all those qualities and more.
He is definately one of, it not THE best british boxer ever.

Joe thinks of this a fight as an easy win and an opportunity to make alot of money. So you can tblame him for taking this fight. But I think Jones is going to give him a tougher fight than expected.
Heh, I'm pretty sure you can change it yes.
Either way I think being fair, Roys not 30% of what he used to be (exaggeration), and he's not in prime or totally shot.
About 70% might be reflective imo. If you can edit it, I'd stick in 50% and 75% or something.
GreatJoe your making some odd posts lately dude lol.
It jumps from only 30%, to totally shot.
Would be pretty logical and reasonable to maybe have something around a 60% option don't you think? A massive leap right there in the poll atm so am not voting.
Lmao, I only threw it together quickly.
I think percentages are abit specific though, don't you think?
I only put 30% caus I didn't know how to distinguish that category.
I don't think I can change it now, can I?

LOL..
Calzaghe, stays contradicting himself..
"I want Pavlik, I'll go back down to 168 to fight him"
-After the Lockett fight,
"I want Roy Jones, he is a legend"
WOW..
------------------------
He then says Pavlik has to prove himself, but, Pavlik has fought better opposition in the last 2 years than in Joes long career lol.. (a bit exagerated)
------------------------
In the 90's Joe admitted that he didn't want to fight Roy Jones, "hes just too fast, I don't think i would be able to ever hit him"
- Joe now says that Jones was ducking him all these years, and that everyone is calling him out.. LOL
Joe stayed fighting in his backyard until 06..
----------------
Theres probably most, but to me, this doode was a protected champ who fought in his backyard 95 percent of his career..
All his best wins have a catch..
Eubank - Old and shot
Lacy - Ill admit, that was his best win b/c I along with the majority of people thought Lacy would beat his ass.. But people say he was over rated..
Kessler - A good win.. I dont have anything bad to say about Kessler, but he isn't unbeatable.
Hopkins - 43 yr old champ, who made JC look so bad.. The fight was close as hell.. If a prime bhop were in there, I guarantee a victory for bhop.
They all had a catch.. Period.. I can't respect a mother fucker like that..
Even Floyd, I don't respect that motherfucker..
I was going to bite my tounge, but this post has got praised twice. It doesn't deserve it. Look what I can do to the best wins of Roy's career:
Bernard Hopkins - Green
James Toney - weight drained
Mike McCallum - to borrow your phrase, "old and shot"
John Ruiz - Good achievement, but a paper champ
Antonio Tarver - Very overrated
To borrow your phrase again, "they all had a catch...period."
Do I really think any of this shit? No, of course not, I'm not an idiot. My point is that you can twist any win on any resume if you try hard enough. You and dozens of other prejudiced posters on this forum aren't giving Calzaghe his dues. I aint claiming it's the best resume of all time, but the fact remains that he cleaned up 168 and the huge fights just couldn't have been made without bending over and metaphorically taking it up the ass. Hopkins ducked Calzaghe by one day accepting an offer of $3m and the the next day demanding $6m in 2002. This was before his breakout win over Trinidad too. As I have posted time and time again, getting a fight with Roy would have been extremely difficult also. Calzaghe would have had to give up his belt, fight two or three ranking 175 fights for small money just for the slightest chance to make the fight. Even if he'd done that, he wouldn't have been able to claim more than 30% anyway.
I'm sick of being told the same ignorant shit. I'm also sick of the hypocrisy in American fans saying that Calzaghe fans are overrating him, while at the same time treating Kelly Pavlik like he's the second coming. Beating the literally defenceless Edison Miranda and the equally overrated, decision-lucky Jermain Taylor twice doesn't make a fighter proven. This is from a Pavlik fan, who is getting sick at the ridiculous double standards on show. As I've said before, I wouldn't even mind if Pavlik beat Calzaghe.
The anti needs to stop guys, seriously - it's ridiculous. Where it comes from I don't know.
Most completely accept Roy is past his prime, I've heard virtually no one say it's a near to prime Roy. So where's that come from, why are you saying that?
The difference is your negativenes is so relentless it's annoying, I've seen far more ppl completely exaggerating the extent of how past prime Roy is, and how bad Calz fans are, what theyre's saying etc., versus Calzaghe fans saying even 10% of what your making out. Plus some are just joking, others not worth taking much notice of.
Serious guys, your taking in way out of context.
Agreed. SEE. THIS is what I posting about earlier. I knew some of the Calz fans would start talking like this.
That's why this fight stinks. And Calz stinks because he'll do the same damn thing.
exactly thats what i dont like,
its going to be made out like calzaghe beat a prime roy jones,
and that he had a better career and that kind of shit,
this fight proves nothing,
roy was done a long time ago,
Jones hasn't lost in three years and is ranked at LHW, is the biggest payday for JC and will prove once and for all who was the best P4P fighter of this generation.
:nonono::nonono:

Wow, that is a strong post - good stuff. That's pretty much how I see it too.
Nice job!
Thats stupid, titos prime weight was 147, how does that solidify anything but you feeding us a line of bullshit?
Tito is Hopkins biggest win and you yanks never had a problem with him being a blown up WW then, same with DLH.

Was that on the same page where he stated point blank that he would never fight Mikkel Kessler?
He didn't state that in his book, atleast I don't remember.
I'll need proof.
