this seems ridiculous to me. how many times do i have to watch this guy fight on hbo before he faces a serious threat? i mean- he is the wbc champ of the most stacked division in boxing. yea, stevie's got some skills, but id rather see berto fight collazo, the winner OR LOSER even of clottey-judah or cotto-margarito, paul williams, shane mosley, mike jones, even quintana... any one who is a true contener or even lower top 10 fighter at 147 (not 140 like 2 lb.)... michal trabant? rodriguez? these guys were tomato cans- rodriguez an ex-cop.... anyway, what do you guys think of this matchup and if you feel similar to how I do, who do you think Berto should be fighting?!?
i mean, i don't wanna come down on the kid too hard, so if he makes a defense right after forbes (Which should go down in october if it goes through) i'll be cool with that, but i hope he steps it up soon!!!!
I like that fact that Collazo is ranked #1 by the WBC, but isnt Jackson Osei Bonsu going to fight in a WBC eliminator against Jan Zaveck or somebody?
Im not sure, just think Ive read about that. I dont really know anything about Bonsu though.
Read the rest of my posts friend, Im no Hater.
However i do totally accept your comments that i should probably direct my frustration at Dibella rather than the fighter himself. If anything though, unless Dibella gets him the fights that his talents (possibly) deserve he WILL fade into mediocrity.
N/B i say possibly in regard to his talents as its easier to be flashy and get 19 out of 22 KO's against lower level opposition.
I am all for exciting fighters but would prefer them stepped up in competition BEFORE they get a belt.
He will step up soon enough, I also want to see him fight some of the better fighters in the top 10. I just don't get why people get on his case when he's smashing people in the ring, boxing is at a stage where we need future superstars. If Berto is brought up in the right way he could potentially become huge! you have to remember Dibella has guided Jermain Taylor and Paul Malignaggi, he knows what he's doing with Berto.
Like I said earlier he got the belt because Floyd retired and the WBC pretty much handed it to him, did you expect for him to turn down a title fight against easy pickings? Luis Collazo is currently No.1 ranked welter by the WBC, I expect that to be Berto's next fight after Forbes.
Berto will be a guest host on FNF in 2 weeks, I'm sure he will talk about his future and Brian Kenny will grill him about fighting the top fighters.
That can be the only reason surely.
And the fact that he is very difficult to KO.
IMO opinion Collazo would turn him over right now but I have to say im getting really bored of this kid already, unless he actually proves himself and gets the bigger fights he will fade into mediocrity.
Spoken like a true hater
What makes Berto boring??? His dazzling combinations?? His 19 ko's in his 22 victories?
Berto is a beast, you could say he's fighting bellow his level you could even say Lou Dibella needs to put him in with a top fighter but how can you say he's boring and has the potential to fade into mediocrity???
Berto would fight anybody, if anything people should be pissed at Dibella

I agree, I want to see him against a legit top 10 welterweight.
i think forbes is a threat.
after bertos last performance against miguel rodriquez to some his lack of defense and fighting in flashes was unsettling.
i dont think that style is going to fly against a top ten.
I thought he showed improved defense against Rodriguez, it looked tighter and he was slipped shots better.
Forbes isn't powerful enough to get Berto's respect and he's too small to out muscle Berto, I think Berto even has the speed advantage, the only thing Forbes has going for him in this fight is his experience.
How many more baby steps? He has damn near 30 fights!!! This is just ridiculous. He has fought enough bums. You are a champ, a very hyped figher, and the supposed "Future" of boxing. How many more bums does he need before he even takes on a GOOD NAME.
He has 22 fights, and is only 24 years old. I'm sure he is going to step it up after this fight, so long as he does well.
I consider Forbes a pretty good test, and a step up in comp. Forbes is damn near impossible to stop, has excellent skills and is coming for a fight. This is an excellent way for Berto to prepare for the big boys.
shouldn't you have to be a welterweight to fight for a welterweight title? fighting delahoya(money) out of his element is one thing because nothing was on the line. berto's on the calzaghe career plan. berto vs forbes will probably be in wales.
hahaha- karma for you sir!

When I say that he is a bitch, I dont mean it literally. I mean the fights that he takes a bitch moves. I mean bitch as in, sorry no skill ass, who just gets by on speed against under performing over rated tomato cans. Berto will get KO'ed by the first REAL fighter he fights. Cintron will retire this slightly better than a Tomato can "Fighter". Lets face it, Cintron, P Will, Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Quintana are ALL better than him. He squats on a fuckin title, and now he is the shit? Im sorry, but I judge fighters one WHO they fight AND HOW they fight. Others just buy in to the HYPE bullshit. Me on the other hand, go by what I see, not by what Jim Lampley, Lennox Lewis, Max Kellerman and Emmanuel Steward say. They are just HBO commentators that get paid millions to nut hug.
Who the hell did Cintron ever beat? You slam Berto but praise Cintron. You calling him a "bitch" is a bitch move by you because he would kick your ass. Berto has done more in boxing then you ever did or will. Typing that on a computer is easy and your agenda is obvious. Too bad you won't ever get paid millions to "nut hug". BTW, Lennox Lewis forgot more about boxing than you will ever know.
FORBES!!?? What the fuck? Berto is, was, and will always be a bitch. It's motherfuckers like him that are fucking up boxing, while guys like Gamboa are trying to put it on steady ground.
What, that dude smack your mom or something? Get the fuck out of here with that. That BITCH would knock your ass out.
Forbes is a LEGIT dude. Never been knocked down. Put a dent on DLH. Former title holder. So shut your cockholster already with this Berto is a bitch shit, you fucking clown.

Relax buddy
Berto has 22 fights and has been a pro for less then 4 years, now you think Forbes is a bum?? Sure Berto is getting some good dates on HBO against relatively easy competition but the guy is taking care of business. He's been a pro for about 2 months longer then Abner Mares and I don't see anybody bitching about his competition.
Was Cotto fighting the top guys 4 years in?? At this stage in Cotto's career he was fighting smaller men Victoriano Sosa and Demetrio Ceballos.
Berto isn't gonna be a great champion. Yeah he looks impressive with his knockouts, but throws a lot of wide shots. Cotto, Mayweather, even Mosley would tax him.

I think if he overlooks forbes he could have his ass handed to him. Forbes is a quality fighter and will be a good defense IMO.
Forbes will test Berto, trust me. As much as I would've liked to see Berto against a Collazzo, his management is smart. Putting in Berto against Collazzo at this time would've been risky, he could've won but also could've easily been ruined. I can't really complain about him fighting Forbes, Stevie aint no pushover, although his lack of power is what landed him this fight.
Also, keep in mind... how would it make Berto look if he manages to stop Forbes? Something Oscar came nowhere near to doing. Just a thought.

I think berto beats everyone at welterweight except pwill. he should fight the best that he could get cuz I think he is ready for it.

I agree with everything you said. I think it's pretty clear that Forbes is not going to ever be a top welterweight and this fight is a waste of time. Hopefully Berto's next fight will be meaningful.
