Top 50 but guys like Oscar, Benitez, Pernell, Duran, and Floyd would do the same in this era. Crawford benefits from fighting in a weak era
Possibly, it all depends on if Spence & Crawford keep winning. Spence & Crawford are the 2 that can potentially match the level of the legendary guys if they keep winning than have their career legacy fight against each other. I just hope Arum allows Crawford to fight some of the PBC fighters & not just C level fighters constantly. I guess if he fights Pacquiao after Horn that’s a solid fight even though Pacquiao is past his best. But he needs to fight at least 2 of these fighters between Porter, Garcia & Thurman. Than Spence. This is all if he keeps winning of course.
I’m not a fan of Swift, per se. But I don’t ever recall him getting the boos from the crowd like he did with last nights intro. Do any of you guys recall the crowd downing DSG on an intro?
I noticed that too. I think people are just sick of his cherry picking ways & also they don’t like his Dad either so it rubs off on not liking Danny either.
Keith thurman seems to be trying to take that title
lol I don’t know what happened to him. He was one of my favorite fighters until recently where it’s like his whole demeanor has changed. I can understand wanting a tuneup after having surgery, but after that there’s no excuse not to fight Spence. He already beat Garcia in an 8-4 fight where I didn’t even find it that close. And the Porter fight was good & a bit close but it was still a clear Thurman win. Porter didn’t win any more than 5 rounds at the very most. It’s time for Thurman to fight Spence later this year.
Garcia is the biggest cherry picker currently so I see this happening. I’d be surprised if he fights Porter or Spence later this year. I think he would maybe fight Thurman though if given the chance to try to avenge his loss. All these guys at welterweight need to start fighting each other really soon. Spence wants to prove himself even more yet no one wants to fight him. It’s just really corny & it shows that most of the fighters of today don’t have the desire to fight the best & just want the quick easy paydays.
Khan had that tough night against Diaz and looked to be a bit under sized versus Algieri but in both instances his ability to punch and move showed and ultimately he was outboxing Canelo more thoroughly than anyone since Floyd before getting stopped.
Now...can he still be elite 2 years later? I dunno.
The nearly elite list has to include Porter, Trout, Andrade and a few others. Andrade at least has a chance to prove himself as he is still young enough.
Yes, Trout is a great one. A very good fighter but just a level below the best. Porter it’s still hard to say. I personally feel he clearly lost to Thurman but it was sort of close. Porter won 4 or 5 rounds. Same with the Brook fight, he did well but came up short. He still has time to prove himself though since he still has a lot of years left.
Canelo Alvarez
Gennady Golovkin
Sullivan Barrera
Kovalev
Sadam Ali
Jessie Vargas
Cotto
I think Canelo & Golovkin are elite. Kovalev & Cotto are too. Ali it’s too early to say where he fits. Vargas I’d say fits perfectly in this category though. He’s a good solid fighter but he’s not an elite level fighter.
Boxing’s becoming a joke. No super fights ever get made. There’s more fights between the promoters than there is between the fighters. Boxing is becoming a farce.
I Cant even imagine what it’s going to be like in 10 years time, the fights will probably happen on social media instead.
True, it's just a shame. I've only watched maybe 3 fights this year so far since hardly any of them interest me. It's just a bunch of boring mismatches.
This is probably obvious to many but the reason Pac fights the very best is that he already has 7 losses on his record so he has nothing to lose with protecting his record. Floyd is just extremely afraid of losing his undefeated record which is why he never pushed to fight the best when they were still in their prime. I think if Floyd had a loss or two officially on his record he would have pushed himself to be more great in terms of his resume. When it's all said & done Floyd will go down as the better fighter between the two but Manny will go down as the greater fighter with the better resume & more classic fights.
Pacquiao is fighting mikey Garcia
Ugh, I completely forgot about that fight potentially happening. That’s an awful fight. Pacquiao needs to fight either Porter or Crawford next. No interest in a Mikey Garcia fight.
I think Lopez has a chance but I think Loma likely wins this. I can see Loma maybe getting knocked down once in the middle or late in the fight but I don’t think he’ll lose. Lopez is a legit opponent though so no one can say anything even if Loma happens to shut him out.
The fight should happen within the next year since it gets beyond old hearing about wanting to marinate fights. So many fights never get made that we want to see until years after they should have happened already. It becomes boring seeing mismatches being made 90% of the time. I hope Haney & his dad are telling the truth of moving up to 140 to send a message if the fight doesn’t get made in the near future so we can’t have this stuff happen yet again for the next generation of top fighters all avoiding each other too.
everybody hates marinating but this matchup needs to marinate for 1-2 more years.
The issue is the bigger these two guys get in popularity it’ll probably become even harder to get made. Neither promoter will want to risk losing their new cash cow right away. Boxing is a difficult sport to be a follower of a lot of the time since we always have to wait so long to see the best fights & I just wish that would change.
Can’t Garcia pay a penalty to get out of his contract? I’m sure it’ll be a lot of money to do that but if he thinks he can make a lot more somewhere else than it would pay off in the future.
PBC or DAZN might step up with the big bucks
That’s what I mean. Just I have no clue how much it would be for him to do that or if it’s even an option with his contract. He shouldn’t of signed this new deal if he was just going to complain a few months later again.
Spence vs. Crawford
Fury vs. Joshua
Beterbiev vs. Bivol
Lomachenko vs. Lopez
Canelo vs. GGG III
I was going to say Canelo vs. Ward but the odds of that happening are very small since I doubt Ward comes out of retirement at this point. Canelo vs. GGG III would still be a mega fight even at this point so I put that one.
Learn how to box, but it’s too late for that...he has no chance against a focused Fury. Just being honest.
I was thinking maybe just doing the style of what Maidana did to Mayweather in their first fight of just brawling & throwing a lot of punches. But the issue is Fury is bigger than Wilder so I’m not sure how well that would work out. Wilder probably needs to come in heavier too since the weight difference was pretty substantial.
I don't think that trying to bulk up to Fury's size is a good idea. If anything I think Wilder should come in at around 220 so he can move better and avoid those clinches.
You think he has to try to do something similar to what Joshua did against Ruiz in their second fight? He’s always just relied on his power which is unfortunately not good against a guy like Fury. Not sure how much he can improve foot work & speed at this point. Maybe Fury is just all wrong for Wilder no matter what outside of landing that KO punch.
lol I literally just read now that according to ESPN his return fight might be on September 8th instead of August 4th. That would be like the 3rd delay now in the span of a few months for a tuneup fight. I’m assuming Lopez will be the opponent. There’s been talk of Jessie Vargas as well but I don’t see that happening due to being out of the ring for a year & a half.
Its worth mentioning in the last 2.5yrs Thurman has only fought one more time than Tyson Fury did.
This isn't a guy the #1 guy in the division should be fighting. Layoff or not. This is a poor opponent with a nice name. And honestly respect to Lopez for always being ready & available, not unlike Gabe Rosado, to be in the running for big name fights like this. He even deserves a bigger fight right now cuz he did just upset a undefeated prospect in Miguel Cruz. But he shouldn't be fighting a #1 in the world guy bigger fight.
I don’t consider Thurman the #1 Welterweight anymore. That goes to Spence in my opinion. I’d put Thurman at 2, & Crawford at 3. I honestly don’t see Thurman beating either of them unless he gets a lucky KO punch. I just can’t see Thurman outboxing neither Spence or Crawford.
A big joke hides from Spence and wants Lopez
The Spence fight isn’t happening until late 2019 at the earliest. Thurman will want his 2 tune up fights & than fight someone like Devon Alexander before he fights Spence. Spence should fight the winner of Porter/Garcia after his fight next week. I can see that happening in early 2019.
At this point I don’t care what anyone says until the fight actually gets made. It’s just boring & tiresome to hear about them going back & forth about negotiations.
The thing that’s sad is that GGG has to win by KO/TKO or else he’s losing on the cards. No way will they give the decision to GGG who likely has maybe 5 fights left in him after this one. Canelo is the young big money draw so he’ll be protected. For every round he actually wins will equal 2 won rounds on the judges scorecards so he only has to win 3 or 4 rounds at most & he’s guaranteed a win.
3 major ones, the wba should be out of the picture
Well 3 would be a big improvement over 4. It’s just too much money is involved for anything like this to happen.
I picked Garcia. If it goes to the scorecards he pretty much wins automatically since the judges over the years have favored him for some reason. He should arguably have 2 or 3 losses on his record right now. Porter has a reckless style but since Garcia has one of the best chins in boxing Porter won’t be able to hurt him. I say Garcia wins 7-5 or 8-4 on the scorecards regardless of how the fight goes down. Porter needs a KO to win & I don’t see that happening.
