“If they don’t think I’m the next world champ, if they don’t think I’m the next big fighter in the world, prove it — let me go. Just free release right now and let me be,” Garcia told The Athletic. “Why do you want to hold back somebody who’s not going to be ****?
“Don’t hold me back; release me. … If you don’t think I’m the real deal because you’re insinuating that I’m not really the real deal and I’m not on that level yet, release me and I’ll prove it to you.”
For the proposed matchups with Tanajara, Gesta and Fortuna, Golden Boy offered purses between $250,000 and $350,000, per sources.
Garcia points to fellow rising star Shakur Stevenson’s payday — a purse in excess of $700,000, per sources — in June for ESPN’s return to boxing since the spread of coronavirus. Stevenson won every round with ease before he knocked out the little-known Felix Caraballo in a non-title affair. Top Rank was set to pay him $1 million for a title defense against Miguel Marriaga, but it was canceled due to COVID-19.
“That was probably the most overmatched fight I’ve ever seen in my life,” Garcia said. “What would I have done to that guy? One eye closed, behind my back, knocked him out. And then why did I fight him? And then people are going to eat me up? Nobody ate up Shakur. Where was that? Eaten up, even if it was a pandemic.”

Young Golden Boy is not a happy camper right now. He's seeing what Stevenson is getting paid and knows he's a much bigger ticket seller than him. Unfortunately he just negotiated a contract extension not too long ago. Should he be getting paid more? Probably, but he shouldn't be mad that Stevenson has a better team around him negotiating bigger purses. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
What keeps him from going? Is he shackled in chains?
Why is this clown full of drama?
Doe if you want Davis sign up with Ellerbe. As simple as that.
Talk is cheap.
PBC or DAZN might step up with the big bucks
That’s what I mean. Just I have no clue how much it would be for him to do that or if it’s even an option with his contract. He shouldn’t of signed this new deal if he was just going to complain a few months later again.
Can’t Garcia pay a penalty to get out of his contract? I’m sure it’ll be a lot of money to do that but if he thinks he can make a lot more somewhere else than it would pay off in the future.

I see people bringing up Shakur who had one of the most lucrative prospect contracts as he was a can't miss stud from the Olympics and there was a bidding war to sign him. And still he only made 150K for his first world title fight and just 100K for his first title eliminator top 10 ranked opponent. This was his first fight now that he has hit world champ milesstone on his contract so his pay just tripled because that's what his contract guarantees him if he becomes world champ. Ryan making 200-350K before a title eliminator before he fights a top 10 ranked guy seems generous to me.
He's already paid more then any prospect now he wants to be paid more then world champs when he has accomplished anything.

This is a business my friend and it’s about àśśes in seats and viewership!
You can’t possibly think Stevenson can compete with Garcia viewership wise can you?
Businesswise, Garcia should get paid like a world champ especially if he’s brining Goldenboy profit through viewership which he does and sells tickets!
Yordenis Ugas makes 10x more than Garcia and he isn’t even champion!
Nice try with the Shakur tidbits but no dice!
All this tells me is that Ryan’s management and advisors failed him!
It sounds like Goldenboy don’t want Ryan to fight Luke Campbell, if the kid wants to prove himself then why hold him back?
I respect him for actually wanting to fight the best but pay the kid especially if he’s your next biggest star not named Canelo!

Ryan seems to have it alright to me. Just from a bitch ass generation.

Oscar should’ve just fed him to Haney !
If he wins then he’s the real deal and if he loses then he’s not and no one will care since mostly everyone thinks he isn’t that good!
Goldenboy has a proven ticket seller who wants to prove himself and a guy in Shakur Stevenson who couldn’t even sell out in his hometown gets paid 7x more than Garcia does while his resume isn’t something to praise about either and got his title fighting his possible brother in law!
This is boxing people!
Ryan Garcia needs a reality check. You’re a kid who’s beaten nobody, fought nobody, won 0 titles etc, etc.
I’m looking forward to seeing him lose. Sick of hearing him run his mouth.
I mean I see his point of view...Sort of. He IS a much better draw and ticket seller than Stevenson. BUT, dude just negotiated his extension not so long ago. So maybe it was him who was undervaluing his true worth at the time of the extension.
