Pac gets nothing from me. This is just another low risk fight for Manny just like his last 6 or 7.
how??? this is the most legit opponent he can get. he couldve easily picked another big name with no chance and make millions.... but he chose an undefeated african american in his prime with NO fanbase.
not exactly the "slick" boxer type, but legit nonetheless.
It wasn't until Manny beat DLH, they automatically said put him in there with Floyd. Thats when the media took control. Where was the media in 06?
How long it took for Floyd to fight DLH. It even took him leaving Top Rank to get the fight
So stop it
beating 3 mexican legends already sealed the deal on pac's legacy...
his work @ WW was clearly for the record books and collecting trinket belts...
4-time lineal champion, in 4 divisions... not hype... LINEAL
pac mostly deserves the criticism:
• clottey: gets a pass from me. joshua was a ranked WW and only viable option at the time. berto/shane was tied up. floyd was unavailable. etc.
• margs: complete BS. undeserving especially for the 154 title... foreman was a more legit opponent if he wanted a 154 belt. but i think bob wanted to protect his jewish champ. pac's excuse of pillow-fisted yuri being "too tall" was suspect.
• shane: complete BS. another undeserving opponent. ortiz or berto wouldve been acceptable at the time.
• jmm: a cherry pick that backfired... surprisingly, the WW version of jmm turned out to be an elite choice. so i give him props on that.
• tim: redemption fight... pac needs this
bottom line, he couldve finished margs but understandably let him off the hook... he dominated shane but couldnt capitalize on a retreating shane, so pac looked like shít.... he "underestimated" jmm and paid for it, thats when fans officially turned on him.
berto looked promising coming up, i admit i had high hopes for the dude... but after seeing him against collazo, that enthusiasm quickly ended. LOL. collazo is the TRUTH.
after that, with the ****iness and inflated paydays, it was hard to even stomach berto....
devon alexander was another one i had high hopes for...
floyd moves to 154, i think fans will be happy. PLENTY of beatable talent in that division. WW is dead anyways.
if floyd moves to 154 and fights sergio, he clearly sh1ts on pac's resume easily.... IMO, sergio is the deciding factor for legacy. theres a lot of interesting fights @ 154. plenty of them will add to floyds legacy.
pac's got nobody @ 140-147 to help his legacy... just a bunch of young inexperienced fighters. the fact pac cant make 154 is a shame. tim is solid but only hardcore fans will give him credit for that.
floyds future looks brighter (if he is still motivated to continue).... if he beats cotto, his options are great at 154.... sergio, canelo, lara, p-will, angulo, etc.
pac's future is a bit dim (retirement talks... religion BS).... after tim, his only legit options will be peterson (if he wins again).... other than that, pac might as well step aside and let khan handle 140 division.
cotto needs to fight like "prime" cotto wouldve... inside game... punish the body... work that jab....
wish cotto the best on this one... there are some variables that favor cotto. i hope he capitalizes on them.
honestly, if the floyd that showed up for ortiz shows up for cotto... cotto might actually have a better chance than what most give him.
IMO, floyd looked a bit stationary... a bit slower....and threw sloppy combos...
im comparing him to his previous performances... he looked SHARP against shane & jmm.... i feel if the bizarre ending didnt happen, floyd wouldve had a hard night. not because of ortiz, its more of a reflection of floyd slipping.... due to multiple possibilities: inactivity, lack of motivation, lost the love for the sport, just collecting a check.... floyd HIMSELF stated he lacks motivation to fight.
and if floyd continues to promise/deliver a more fan-friendly gameplan, then we might see some good moments for cotto.
when floyd beats ortiz... then beats sergio, he EASILY overtakes pac... sergio would be the most meaningful fight for floyd's legacy (other than pac). for floyd to fight sergio @ 154, it would shake up the boxing world. it would contradict what everyone assumes floyd would & wouldnt do. wouldnt matter much business-wise, since sergio isnt mainstream... but definitely career-defining for floyd.
training for 1-2 years... nothing too serious. sparred regularly... work got hectic so i cut back. i work with a management firm that represents various fighters (mma)... wasnt an mma fan, but after being surrounded by top name UFC fighters, i respect them more... but NOTHING beats boxing at its best.
mma fighters employ boxing coaches & have LOTS of respect for boxing.
LOVE BOXING.
hmmmm.. interesting... good gifs. i didnt see the headbutts. they were trading bombs, and zavek didnt complain of headbutts... so i figured everything was all good.
compubox shows what the deal really was... it was a close fight, sucks for zavek to lose his belt in that manner. zavek was turning it up the last half.
great comeback for berto, but if it went to 12 rounds the numbers were favoring zavek.
not floyds fault.. he said he they choose what to show.
but HONESTLY, what other content would floyd want to show??? more sing-alongs with d-list R&B singers??? showing off the loooong list of black "celebs" that want to be on HBO????
more Ray J, FLO RIDA, 50 Cent, etc????
no thanks... im good.
how about floyd shows us REAL content.... like SPARRING.
i cringed when Floyd started showing off his properties to the troops. Is he an idiot or he is just that arrogant?
I'm sure the troops were not interested in his properties.
i cringed too... i mean, the guys are on the front lines sacrificing their lives for douches like floyd... and floyd rubs it in their faces...
it was a VERY bad moment. i mean the complete ignorance of his bragging was incredible... he was completely OBLIVIOUS. its one thing to brag, but he took the time to WALK around his 22,000 sq/ft mansion RUBBING IT IN.
if i was a soldier in that conference call, i wouldve walked out and had a cig... call me back when the BS is done. LOL.
mikey is no joke... it will be close. i favor gamboa, based on talent level & physical gifts. plus, potential star power.
mikey is pretty low key. i wouldnt consider him a star... kinda like chad dawson, skills but no charisma.
funny thing is kimbo is a tough dude with a MASSIVE following (even after his ufc fail)... i know a few dudes that sparred with kimbo @ top team. the guy's punching power is no joke... his issue is conditioning and ground game.
honestly, i think kimbo shouldve pursued boxing FIRST instead of ufc... i think with the current crop of HW boxers, kimbo couldve made some noise. MMA was the wrong choice for a heavy-handed brute with weak legs.
once kimbo starts putting up big numbers, the circus will start. im surprised don king hasnt signed him.
kimbo + king = hilarious event
comparable handspeed. maybe russell slight edge... but gamboa DEFINITELY more explosive and powerful...
i would rather step in the ring with russell instead of gamboa. with russell's hand issues and reluctance to FULLY commit his power, no brainer... i would HATE to get caught with anything gamboa throws.
• jeff "left hook" lacy was pretty dope.
• "lights out" is one of my faves
• "brown bomber" is slick... and kinda racist. HAHA
• "pretty boy" floyd... always amused me
• "thunder" gatti... very fitting.
• "smokin" joe frazier.... classic
• "golden boy".... you guys CANT hate on that.
• "Dr. Steelhammer" & "Dr. Ironfist".... matching names, nice.
if by some chance kimbo becomes a MAJOR draw in the US again, i think with a little noise he can get a shot... money talks. and wlad or vitali would steamroll him anyway. easy money
i think pac's power is overrated... i think most of his TKOs come from aggressiveness and angles. hatton/cotto/shane got dropped from unseen shots.
regarding floyd, floyd DEFINITELY has underrated power... it seems more of an unwillingness to go for the KO instead of an incapability to do so... shane is a SOLID WW, and floyd just bullied him (surprised the heck outta me).
you were just owned.......
in a room full of floyd fanboys... of course.
its funny, you guys are so passionate about floyd... but claim to be 'boxing fans'... but i would LOVE to hear you guys break down the finer points in pac's game... also sergios.... even wlad's....
Ask the guys who are completely befuddled by the 4th round if he's formulaic.
OMFG, are you one of those "floyd is the BEST fighter that EVER lived" fans????
if so, there is no point in responding to you... im a boxing fan, i recognize floyds strengths and weaknesses.... i also recognize pac's strengths & weaknesses.... to think floyd is IMPECCABLE & has ABSOLUTELY no flaws is just being plain ignorant.... by formulaic, i mean floyd doesnt throw you any curveballs. floyd is pretty straightforward. he systematically breaks you down. what makes floyd great is the subtle nuances in his game. also his self control. he doesnt fight 'emotional'...
simply put, since he is a DEFENSIVE fighter... his opponents are FORCED to figure him out.... basically, you bend to his will. you fight HIS fight... if floyd was an OFFENSIVE fighter, he would NOT be undefeated, but im sure he would have more fans.
The only blueprint to beating Floyd is Floyd getting old. Nobody in present day boxing possess the skill set to beat him. Floyd eluded to it last night on the Face/Off. The reason "it look different from the outside" is because of the slight nuances Floyd brings to the game. The distance he fight from, feints, angles, target levels, quirky rhythm, not telegraphing his shots with shoulder dips or with his eyes, etc. Boxing is a skill set. That's why nobody can match skills with Floyd. Now while FIGHTING, anything can happen. There may be somebody out there that can catch Floyd with a hard shot, but there's no shame in that. But to pretend as if there is a gameplan to beat Floyd is obsurd. It's not a coincidence that guys who have iron chins and bruising styles don't run up on him crazy in the ring. It's not a coincidence that by the 4th round in most of his fights, the other fighter looks as if he's stuck in mud and has been fighting for 12 rounds already.
sergio's knocking on floyds door....
Call me crazy but I seriously think Paul Williams can beat Floyd although the chances would have been higher pre Martinez 2.
Paul Williams is tall, throws alot of punches, is relentless and also a southpaw.
Sadly Paul is not well known outside of boxing and doesnt generate alot of money to his fights.
i also think prime p-will couldve out-hustled floyd. i also think a prime margs wouldve been a LONG night for floyd...
