Personally, I think the way to beat Mayweather is by boxing him. Not just that simple obviously. You need massive punching power, and intelligence. I think Floyd's worst nightmare would be Kostya Tszyu. I think the way to beat him is to hold over his head the threat that you're capable of hitting him and capable of stopping him when you do. This will stop Floyd from jumping in and potshotting. Then it's a matter of outworking him and minimizing his return fire. These guys that try to run at him end up maximizing his connect percentage and end up getting tied up inside. You really gotta pick spots and only spots to do that - just enough to up your punch count and steal moments for the scorecards. And you definitely need to be able to feint a lot. Floyd reacts to his opponent. That's his talent. You can't just try to blow fastballs by him. You gotta threaten with a mean fastball and set him up with changeups. Just another way to keep his mind busy and his offense down.
Floyd's biggest flaw would be that his style is based on having to be perfect. He wins rounds by clearly landing and not clearly getting hit. If somebody were able to muddy that water a bit then they turn everything around and put the onus on Floyd to have to make something happen.
If there was a WW Kostya Tszyu today that would be the guy to beat Floyd.
Want to beat Mayweather:
- you need power
- make him lead
- attack the body
- do not fight in rythm or static the entire time, change up, alternate.
- try to throw when he does.....not before (you will get countered to DEATH) or after (you won't land ****)
i think you can lead with floyd... just have to always prepare for counters, and not stay too long in the pocket. keeping floyd on the defensive and scoring points with a solid offense would be the key, IMO. i think combinations using different levels would be effective...
Everyone keeps saying Castillo, as if the first fight is the blueprint to beat Floyd.
If you're going to use the first fight with Castillo as a blueprint, then you also better hope and pray that Floyd comes in with only one arm on the day of the fight.
And a little advice. When you guys watch fights, watch with the volume turned off. Don't worry about what the commentators are saying, or the ooooh and ahhhhs of crowds. Do you're own judging.
And trust me, a lot of trainers tried to use the first Castillo fight as a blueprint already. And everybody tried to attack Floyd's body as well. Body shots will take a toll on Floyd in the later rounds, but they need to connect. Those body shots better not be the same body shots Oscar was trying to land on Floyd.
Call me crazy but I seriously think Paul Williams can beat Floyd although the chances would have been higher pre Martinez 2.
Paul Williams is tall, throws alot of punches, is relentless and also a southpaw.
Sadly Paul is not well known outside of boxing and doesnt generate alot of money to his fights.
i also think prime p-will couldve out-hustled floyd. i also think a prime margs wouldve been a LONG night for floyd...
but unlike haggler- pacman knows how to box aswell
WHAT! You sir need to watch more boxing and learn a thing or two
no worries bro, that dude and Hugh Grant are easily the biggest jokes on this forum lol
pacquiao is the worst nightmare for mayweather
he can outwork him 12 rounds
he can hurt him at any distance
pac has an iron clad chin
he's a lion like haggler at his best
but unlike haggler- pacman knows how to box aswell
pacquiao might be the greatest P4P fighter of all time
ahead of SRR
but unlike haggler- pacman knows how to box aswell

Kostya Tszyu lost to vince phillip and ricky hatton. Mayweather would UD him all day long sorry to tell you.
since we are talking hypotheticals a prime Tszyu would have been a IMO a competitive bout for the Floyd that fought at 140, regarding Hatton Floyd fought a great fight against him but also caught him at a good moment in his career and 7lbs above his best.

.....and hagler couldn't box?
you had me until you said this...
watch some hagler footage pre hearns, duran, srl...
you were just owned.......
in a room full of floyd fanboys... of course.
its funny, you guys are so passionate about floyd... but claim to be 'boxing fans'... but i would LOVE to hear you guys break down the finer points in pac's game... also sergios.... even wlad's....
first of all, i always state my opinion. you can sit in your chair and "drop knowledge" on me all you like.... bottom line is you and i can have TOTALLY different perspectives of how floyd fights. i pretty much agree with your
assessment on page 6, but to say floyd is UNBEATABLE is a bit much.
like i always said, floyd demoralizes his opponents & takes their hearts... then once that happens, its a walk in the park for floyd. a hesitant fighter that throws a weak jab will get countered all night. ive been following floyd for a bit... BUT i can honestly tell you i dont keep a vault of his fight tapes.
trust me, im aware of his game & i LOVE debating with knowledgable fight fans, and if i get schooled i dont mind.... but to get condescended to because i dont see it the way you see it is pretty funny... ive watched enough floyd to TRULY appreciate his talent, ive tried to apply it in sparring, and i can honestly say ALOT of his game is UNSEEN....
but i stick to my guns in saying that floyd is formulaic.... he sits back, slowly takes away the jab... stiff straights to the body... step back... feints.... etc...
lets just say his FORMULA works... and YES, he makes others formula NOT work.
you were just owned.......
I see people putting Castillo 1 as the way to beat Mayweather as if Mayweather had not improved since 2002 :lol1:
A Castillo style fighter on Castillo's level would have a better chance of beating Floyd today then Castillo did when they fought. Mayweather isn't as light on his feet and doesn't throw the combos he did then.
i agree with the kosta tszyu thing
i think thats the style you need .its all about timing and kosta tszyus timing was insane
happy to note posts in this thread are generally objective and full of insights...
one thing i could just venture to add is the intimidation factor.....
yes, both are very good and well experienced fighters.................
but i do not subscribe to the notion that these two guys are immune to intimidation..
and intimidation gets in to the head...
as this will be a big factor in the fight.....
You're really trying your hardest to sound knowledgable, but you're spitting gibberish. You can't call him formulaic in one breath and say his style is DEFENSIVE. Fighting defensive is reactionary. There's no formula, which is the root word for your word of the day, for reacting to an opponent. Floyd fought Hatton in a wrestling match and against the ropes, Marquez from distance and range, Judah with a high guard and walking forward, Mosley by walking him down with a low guard to bait him so he can counter in the pocket... the different FORMULAS go on and on. What Floyd does is forces his opponent's to lose confidence in THEIR formula. You wanna jab? He circles and counter over it and take it away. You wanna rough him up on the inside? He throws one punch, fall in, create space with his elbow, and work your pit. See in your haste to crown somebody a Floyd lover, you decided to debate someone who is a fan of boxing, not BOXERS. Everything you stated trying to sound knowledgable about Floyd and his nuances in your attempt to school me...I already said on page 6. I like your style, you obviously watch boxing and can point out some things about the science. You just happen to pick the wrong word, formulaic, when describing Floyd.

The way to beat Floyd is first to catch him as he is slipping physically. Next you have to be long, with long arms with a piercing jab. You also have to be able to punch when he punches as someone said earlier. No man is unbeatable but Floyd is so determined, conditioned and unflappable that he defeats his opponents mentally. I see no one in the current crop of fighters 147 and lower who can hang with him for more than 5 rounds
