Most southpaw fighters fight orthodox fighters so they train mostly for orthodox ones. The angles can turn off an orthodox fighter because they rarely encounter having to fight a southpaw.
Cristian Mijares and Winky Wright are right handed fighters who use the southpaw stance.
Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto are left handed fighters who use the orthodox stance.
From what I remember, Pacquiao mentioned in an episode of De La Hoya - Pacquiao 24/7 that he was ambidextrous.
Despite everyone elses opinion regarding boxing corruption, running away, Maidana's manners, Khan's strategy. The fight was a good one and as boxing fans, this fight was a good treat in some way because there was a lot of action nonetheless.
Khan showed a pretty good chin today despite that 10th round scare and Maidana showed how durable he is. The fight was good and there was a lot of action.
As much as Margarito is very tall and also very active, he's too slow and his granite chin has been broken by Mosley. He does have a chance but it's not as big as what it could have been had they fought a few years ago.
I picked De La Hoya to win the fight against Pacquiao but when he came in weighing 145 lbs., I knew he was in trouble. I picked Pacquiao over Hatton but never expected a two round blitz.
My pick:
1) Erik Morales for going through those 2 classic trilogies. (Although he lost 4 of those. It shows he has so much heart.)
2) Marco Antonio Barrera for the many fights he has won and for silencing Prince Naseem.
3) Juan Manuel Marquez for competitive fights with Pacman but his camp also avoided a rematch after their first fight.
He can as long as he is able to sustain his consistency in the early rounds. Similar to how he was doing it in the 1st half of the fighr. Though that's easier said then done. He'll have to overcome Margarito's offensive style and also find a way to Margarito's body because it's very hard to go for Margarito's head. It's practically made of steel.
That's a very big difference in height and natural weight. I still view Pacquiao would be at his best at lightweight than going after welterweights. Margarito is a very busy fighter and he may not be as polished but sooner or later one of those power punches can hit and hurt Pacquiao. Another factor would be that iron chin. He can surely take Pacman's best punches. Of course we'll still have to see how Pacquiao performs against De La Hoya before looking at the possibilities for this one.
A rematch with Victor Ortiz is high risk low reward for Maidana. Ortiz knocked down Maidana 3 times before doing a crash and burn and eventually wanting out of the fight
1. Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao
2. Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Shane Mosley
3. Manny Pacquiao - Shane Mosley
4. Antonio Margarito - Miguel Cotto II
5. Chris John - Juan Manuel Lopez
7. Brian Viloria - Ivan Calderon
8. Arthur Abraham - Paul Williams
9. Jorge Linares - Yuriorkis Gamboa
10. Joan Guzman - Timothy Bradley
Cotto is naturally bigger than Pacquiao and he will rehydrate to between about 155-160 if the fight is at at welterweight so that can put Pacquiao at a disadvantage. This is the same reason why De La Hoya was favored to win his match against Pacquiao. Cotto would likely be favored to win if they meet but nobody can count Pacquiao out because he has shocked the boxing world many times.
Cotto and Pacquiao has a big possibility of happening because both are promoted by Top Rank. I personally prefer Pacquiao against Mayweather or Marquez because both have great stories to hype up the fights.
Pacquiao was outboxed and outskilled by Morales. Pacquiao looked more in shape in the 1st fight than Morales so I don't think Pacquiao was weight drained. He did start the fight strong but the cut did have a factor that made Pacquiao tentative.
With regards the gloves, it may have had a psychological difference because Pacquiao is more accustomed to the Reyes Gloves which are puncher's gloves compared to the Winning Gloves which is more hand protecting. Morales wore the Reyes Gloves in their 3rd fight not the second.
He'd definitely cement his status as one of the greatest of all time but that is would mean he'd have to fight a couple more years whichs looks unlikely.
Mosley is still a very dangerous fighter and he showed against Margarito. Mosley-Pacquiao would make great fireworks and is a very risky but good fight for Pacquiao.
24/7 is a great watch especially given that both fighters can bring interest to their upcoming match. It does get repetetitive though especially for those who've been featured in multiple 24/7's.
