DALLAS (AP) - Boxer Benjamin Flores died five days after he was hospitalized following a title bout with Al Seeger
Bout supervisor Bob Lenhardt says the 25-year-old Flores died Tuesday at Parkland Hospital.
Referee Laurence Cole awarded the victory to Seeger in the eighth round of the North American Boxing Federation fight Thursday night at the Hilton Anatole hotel.
Lenhardt said the Houston fighter was helped to his stool before lying down. Lenhardt said doctors rushed to his side and Flores appeared unconscious when removed on a stretcher.
The fight was for the vacant NABF super bantamweight title. Flores was 19-3 and weighed 122 pounds. Seeger is from Savannah, Ga.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said in a release Tuesday night that it was reviewing the Flores fight to verify all procedures were followed.

Ashame this happened. Man fights his heart out to put a little food in his belly and clothes on his back and his family and ends like this. Like they say GOD only takes the good ones. Just pray for him and his family.
A young warrior dies fighting. That's f*cked up! Some real sad shit. R.I.P. Boxing ain't for sissies, boxers got some real guts stepping into that ring and the dangers they face.
its sad to hear this ... my condolences to BJs family and love ones....
we are reminded once again that this is a brutal sport and all those early stoppages or corner stoppages that some of us cries about have more grounds to do it...
oh and if you type in "2009 deaths" into wiki, it now says Benjiman Flores, but it still links to BJ's page with his record all wrong and his death still listed in the stats
Wow, they don't have it listed that he died in the actual body of the article anymore but there's still this under "Statistics":
