Taylor made so many mistakes in that fight wide windmill punches, leaving himself open, pulling straight back... I was wondering why hopkins was not capitalizing as much as he could have.. he just gave away the first half of the fight!! And how could one of the judges give the last round to taylor, that's preposterous. Hopkins dominated rounds 9 to 12 easily. In a way though, hopkins deserves the loss for doing nothing in the first half of the fight.
Every poll on here taken since the fight sows the majority of fans thought the right man got the nod, so you need to stop lying or revise that statement now that you know this.
p4p is difficult, I don't even believe in P4P FULLY, but I'll make a list.
1) Floyd Mayweather (the best, period...the WAY he beats fighters)
2) Winky Wright (dominated two former top 10 pfp guys)
3) Ricky Hatton (convincing win over a top 3 p4p guy gets you top 5 imo)
4) Jermain Taylor (see comments on Hatton)
5) Bernard Hopkins (fight was close, can't knock him out of top five just yet)
6) Marco Barerra (tied with following three due to unusual circumstances of the fights each have had with each other)
6a) Erik Morales
6b) Manny Pacquiao
9) Zab Judah (p4p, if guys like Pac and MAB were as big as Judah, they would beat him)
10) Diego Corrales (soon to be replaced by Castillo)
Tarver, Castillo, R Marquez, J Marquez, Karmazin missing out closely
I kind of agree with your #6 positionings.. a lot of people put barrera wayyy above pacman in the rankings even though pacman gave barrera a major thrashing, and fought a close fight with morales
Its on Boxingtalk right now but I dont have it so if you do then please post it. They both have been giving eacother respect with a littile trash talking mixed in it but Winky went a littile further this time. I think Winky is going to start dissing Floyd a littile to make Floyd take the fight that way if Floyd was bluffing then he would look like a punk after Winky dissed him
shame on winky for wanting to fight a small guy several divisions down. i know mayweather initiated it, but winky needs to fight people his own size
Jones will win EASILY, wait and see. He was never shot to begin with. People who say he was shot don't know anything about boxing. Jones will come in with a wicked jab and incredible movement that Tarver will not be able to handle. Bet on Jones!! This is one of the few times that the odds will be close because of the public ignorance of the greatness of Jones. EASY MONEY!! BET ON JONES!!!
Dariusz Michalczewski is a damn hard name to pronounce, even for some1 with Polish heritage in them like myself. as much as i like this guy, i have never heard is name being said before, ive only seen his name in print.
can some1 tell me how to pronounce this guy's name?
could you ask him in polish why he demanded parity to fight roy jones, in effect ducking him and why he never fought in the united states, the world capital of boxing?
September 22, 2005: "There will be all these people who will come out and say this is the brutality of our sport. ... Nobody blames auto racing when guys die hitting walls driving 200 miles per hour because it's not poor kids who race cars. It's poor kids who fight.”
Lou Dibella was quoted as saying that today in the aftermath of the death of Levander Johnson.
That may be true in a certain sense but, still, it is because the object of race car driving is not to intentionally smash people into walls and kill them. The main objective of boxing, however, however is to render your opponent unconscious blows to the head and with that comes trauma to a little thing called your brain. Your central nervous system probably doesn't appreciate the effort, either. I am a fighter and love boxing but I am not going to sit here and pretend that it is the safest sport out there. Events like this are just reminders for me why I don't push or prod any kids I work with towards professional careers. If they do it, it is their choice 100 percent. I mean, bringing up poor kids that box as a way out is nice and all and it's great that as a promoter you want to take a chance and invest so much money in them but, really, I have a new "to help give poor kids a chance." Instead of investing so much money into their pro boxing careers why don't you take these kids and put them through college and if and when these guys end up with great jobs making good money they can repay you with interest one day. Deal? It also brings up something I else I find comical in a way. Like when a promoter talks about a fighter and how much they "love them" and "consider them a part of the family." Maybe, maybe not, but it always amuses me that the guy they love like a son also happens to be an elite athlete with very good money making potential. It seems like the only ones that love four round opponents "like a son" are their trainers that work with them on a daily basis for what amounts to no more than probably a couple hundred dollars a year for their efforts.
The object of racing may not be to kill people, but inevitably people are killed at a very high rate through race car driving (higher than boxing, I believe)... As a result, this makes it very dangerous and the people who enjoy race car driving know that it kills a lot of people. If the mortality outcome is higher than that of boxing while at the same time the media is biased towards reporting mostly the negative aspects of boxing whereas this is not true for race car driving then Dibella does have a point.
DM fought a lower caliber of competition than RJ. The US judges suck at their job? And how about the dozens of fighters that got robbed due to german judging to german-based fighters? Besides, in a match between RJ and DM, there would have been international judges as well. No, the real reason that DM didn't fight in the US was because german judging was biased in favour of him, and in the US he would have gotten beaten by the likes of julio gonzales (who defeated him in germany).
oh u call these fighters good heavyweights (Rahamn "the new Leon Spinks) Kirk Johnson Evander "shot" Holyfield", Fres quendo, or there was one good Heavyweight he fought David Tua. Regarding not going to another country I constantly hear people bitch about Ricky Hatton not going to USA (which he has done before twice) but it is okay for ROY "SUPERMAN" JONES. Oh another thing what happend was in Korea not Germany. In case u forgot another outstanding Super-Middleweight champ did what Roy Jones did not attempt and win in Germany on points CHRIS "SIMPLY THE BEST" EUBANK.
Facts are facts roy jones is nothing but a steriod using no chin boxer
germany is notorious for biased judging
I've noticed a lot of people hate certain fighters, often for different reasons, but surely true boxing fans should respect all boxers, and the heart they show in this tough sport, it takes a brave man to even step into the ring. I noticed Larry Holmes didn't even bad mouth John Ruiz, he said he was just a guy making a living, maybe guys likeJohn Ruiz could offer to fight some of these ignorant ''fans'' and see how well they do aganist him. i'm not a huge fan of guys like Ruiz, but some peoples comments are ridiculous.
how about that fighter than suckered punched his opponent after losing the match on ESPN and then went on to murder kellerman's brother?
I believe these photo's are from December 8th 2004..
Prior to every single fight Ricky completes a gruelling 15 round training session with his trainer Billy Graham.
Billy dons the now infamous bodybelt and puts Ricky through his paces, literally taking the Hitman to hell and back.
It forms the pinnacle of months of training and is a very fast and very furious affair right from the off with the action actually gaining momentum as the rounds wear on!
Powerful left hooks to the body, triple jabs, screw uppercuts, leaping right hooks from a southpaw stance, right uppercuts to head and body before you can blink, super-fast four-punch combinations with his left hand and everything in between, Billy Graham pushes the Hitman to his absolute limit.

Hatton must have a lot of motivation training that intensely to fight a bum.
The Jones of old used to dominate tall rangey guys like Tarver with ease (e.g. eric harding--who defeated and broke tarver's jaw in their first fight--and others).
yep roy will shock everyone.
i dont know why they doubted ali back then, i wasnt around so i guess its easier to say that now then seeing stuff back then
and i dont know why people are doubting roy now.
roy will shock the world
I think roy is coming in as an underdog for this fight! Wow, there are a lot of boxing-ignorant people out there!
This is going to be a great fight. $50 is excessive for any pay per view, but after seeing roy jones in a beard and physically very well prepared, I'm convinced that this is worth it.
I could've had the Toney fight for 2$, and I paid 50$ for Jones/Tarver.. Their styles aren't even built for entertainment.. I feel horrible for Tarver he will never get a chance to be one of the greats with the competition in the light heavyweight divison....
then tarver should move up to heavyweight and face james toney. simple solution.
oh yeah but now hes just being stupid. haters are hilarious all this shit for 10+ years about him never taking risks, and now he takes a fight against the best light heavyweight after consecutive KO losses and shows tremendous heart by doing this and is taking a huge risk and instead of them giving him credit all they have to say is "bad move for jones, his ego is to big, hes stupid for taking this fight". SUCK MY FUCKING DICK FAGGOTS YOUR ALL SUCH DAMN HYPOCRITES. Jones is gonna kill tarver on october 1 and all you damn haters will choke on your idiotic words.
I can't wait for the fight.. :boxing:
Look at his competition and you'll see why....
He had been talkin about fighting HEAVYWEIGHT since 1997, but he just stepped up now because Ruiz was the safest HEAVYWEIGHT you can find...
I am not a Roy hater, but it's the truth...he thinks he's the greatest and no decent fighter deserves to fight him so he fights firefighters and the mailman..
His competition is amazing. He fought the top fighters from 160 to 175 and a heavyweight champ--which only himself, toney (win revoked), and a boxer over a 100 years ago did. Ruiz is not the best heavyweight but he wins. He beat holyfield, oquendo, rahman, golota.. you can say what you want, but he is able to get the W.
Obviously, he couldn't fight every single fighter that was top competition (no one can) as he moved up in weight and also some of the fighters people claim that he ducked were defeated before a fight could be made and he fought the fighters who defeated those fighters that he supposedly ducked.
Now, before you mention postmans and mailmans, school teachers (who were highly rated in the rankings despite their other jobs e.g. Otis Grant school teacher), perhaps you should look at his entire record and note that he did fight the top competition. His contracts with HBO required that he fight top competition (i.e. top ranked contenders). Also note that when he fought Hopkins, they were both rated #1 and #2 in the division and had similar level of experience. When he fought Toney he was the underdog and Toney had wayyy more fights than him and was considered possibly the best pound for pound fighter EVER (before being soundly defeated by Jones). There are plenty of other top quality fighters on the list that were top contenders or went on to win world titles after being defeated by Jones such as Virgil Hill, Griffin, Harding... scarcely losing a single round throughout his career!!
Also, in his THIRD fight, he fought a guy who was 16-1. In his 16th fight he fought Jorge Vaca (49-8), and in his 18th fight he fought Jorge Castro (70-3)!!!! That's tremendous talent overcoming experience.
If you were as critical of other fighters' records as you are with Jones, then all fighters would suck to you because Jones has one of the best careers of the past 10-15 years.
first of all.. ufc sucks. pride is way better in terms of mma. i think stand up fighting is more exciting than grappling since a lot of grapplers suck. when you get two skilled grapplers that's when it gets interesting. a lot (not all) of mma grapplers aren't even that flexible; stretch once in a while dammit. they just lay on the ground. i like pride because the fighters are more skilled than ufc, it's a bigger event, and they restart the fighters in the center of the ring when the action is stalled. overall, i think boxing is more exciting than mma because stand up fighting is more exciting.
He had nobody to lose a round against, anybody can look good sparring with mediocre opposition, oh and I assume you haven't seen his fight with the great Fermin Chirino (where Jones just didn't look very good) or haven't seen when the legendary Reggie Miller had him out on his feet for a few rounds.
Jones must have beaten several of your favourite fighters... heh.
Roy Jones should hang up his gloves while he can still announce fights on HBO.
I am very worried about the nature of his last two knockouts. He was demolished and in a very dangerous way.
He is a speed and reflex fighter, and when you get old, your speed and reflexes leave you. He could wind up a casualty if he keeps crawling through the ropes.
Muhammad Ali
Evander Holyfield
Riddick Bowe
Terry Norris
Meldrick Taylor
Tommy Hearns
Joe Frazier
just to name a few. Should Roy's name be added to this list of brain damaged fighters?
he was able to get up from his knockout loss to tarver. in the glen johnson fight, rj didn't really fight.. most of the time he was just laying on the ropes taking shots. in round 5 when he actually fought back, he delivered very effective punches. did he even train properly for the glen johnson fight? i don't think so
roy jones has already been training very hard now.. he looks to be very fit already. all he needs to do is stay off the ropes. the only time he gets hit is when he lays on the ropes
I think Rocky 1 was the best movie in terms of plot.. it shows how he got started and everything, how he lived... I liked the progression of his lifestyle in the movies. In the first rocky he was taking the subway and in the later rockys he was driving a porsche and living in a mansion
