Jones is already looking in magnificent shape, has fought a substantial number of south paws in his career and need only avoid Tarver's left hand.
How many pro fights has Jones gone in where he is the betting underdog? This may be only the second (Toney being the first). I remember Jones entering fights where he was 20-40:1 favourite. No other fighter in recent memory can do that, especially not on a consistent basis. Not even Mayweather when he fought the infinitely less talented Gatti could do those numbers... it was only a little while ago that Jones was considered invincible against any opponent, in particular after he soundly defeated Ruiz--before the fight occured, it was pretty much a toss up with people divided on who would win but Jones outclassed. Y'ALL MUSTA FORGOT!!
(especially the unreasonable Jones haters who claim he fought nobodies and yet claim that michelewski and a few other inferior talents fought the best and even if Jones had defeated King Kong during his career the Jones haters will make up some excuse like King Kong couldn't see Jones cuz he was too small)
POLL: why do some people refuse to acknowledge Jones' achievements yet magnify the achievements of lesser fighters?
Look at his competition and you'll see why....
He had been talkin about fighting HEAVYWEIGHT since 1997, but he just stepped up now because Ruiz was the safest HEAVYWEIGHT you can find...
I am not a Roy hater, but it's the truth...he thinks he's the greatest and no decent fighter deserves to fight him so he fights firefighters and the mailman..
His competition is amazing. He fought the top fighters from 160 to 175 and a heavyweight champ--which only himself, toney (win revoked), and a boxer over a 100 years ago did. Ruiz is not the best heavyweight but he wins. He beat holyfield, oquendo, rahman, golota.. you can say what you want, but he is able to get the W.
Obviously, he couldn't fight every single fighter that was top competition (no one can) as he moved up in weight and also some of the fighters people claim that he ducked were defeated before a fight could be made and he fought the fighters who defeated those fighters that he supposedly ducked.
Now, before you mention postmans and mailmans, school teachers (who were highly rated in the rankings despite their other jobs e.g. Otis Grant school teacher), perhaps you should look at his entire record and note that he did fight the top competition. His contracts with HBO required that he fight top competition (i.e. top ranked contenders). Also note that when he fought Hopkins, they were both rated #1 and #2 in the division and had similar level of experience. When he fought Toney he was the underdog and Toney had wayyy more fights than him and was considered possibly the best pound for pound fighter EVER (before being soundly defeated by Jones). There are plenty of other top quality fighters on the list that were top contenders or went on to win world titles after being defeated by Jones such as Virgil Hill, Griffin, Harding... scarcely losing a single round throughout his career!!
Also, in his THIRD fight, he fought a guy who was 16-1. In his 16th fight he fought Jorge Vaca (49-8), and in his 18th fight he fought Jorge Castro (70-3)!!!! That's tremendous talent overcoming experience.
If you were as critical of other fighters' records as you are with Jones, then all fighters would suck to you because Jones has one of the best careers of the past 10-15 years.

Because he has been fighting bums for the past decade...
in particular after he soundly defeated Ruiz--before the fight occured, it was pretty much a toss up with people divided on who would win but Jones outclassed.

What could have been the cause of that? Is it that he dried out for the weigh in and when he finally rehydrated himself he looked horrible, or is it from overeating or something?
P.S. Look what your dad did to your boy..

and unfortunately, he's gonna do that again at the third fight.

Question.
Why do people say Roy Jones' body looked horrible for the Glen Johnson fight when simeraksou's avatar (which is the weigh in pic taken before the Johnson fight) he looks perfectly fine.

oh yeah but now hes just being stupid. haters are hilarious all this shit for 10+ years about him never taking risks, and now he takes a fight against the best light heavyweight after consecutive KO losses and shows tremendous heart by doing this and is taking a huge risk and instead of them giving him credit all they have to say is "bad move for jones, his ego is to big, hes stupid for taking this fight". SUCK MY FUCKING DICK FAGGOTS YOUR ALL SUCH DAMN HYPOCRITES. Jones is gonna kill tarver on october 1 and all you damn haters will choke on your idiotic words.
I can't wait for the fight.. :boxing:
Well then the haters should be happy come October 1st because RJ is taking a risk.

is that Jones' talent should have lead him to taking more risk. The sad thing is that Roy Jones Jr., who managed his own career, could have done just that - because that's the thing - he managed his own career.

I think this is the reason why haters hate Jones.
When a fight what should happen between two top fighters of a division falls through the roof. The promotor(s) of the fighter(s) are usually to blame...but with Roy Jones Jr. he was his own boss, he managed his own career, etc. Many people who dislike Jones hold him to a high standard, because he was so talented. They wanted to see him fight the best fighters divisions had to offer just like great boxers before him have done (Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Pernell Whitaker, etc.) Because the majority of those fights would have to most likely take place overseas, and Jones doesn't like fighting overseas, they didn't happen. As far as the fight what fell apart in the U.S. I guess a deal with money couldn't be negotiated. The bottomline in the eyes of many is that Jones' talent should have lead him to taking more risk. The sad thing is that Roy Jones Jr., who managed his own career, could have done just that - because that's the thing - he managed his own career.
People love to dig deep into great careers and make excuses why they wern't great. Roy won title in 4 weight classes and is an unreal athlete who has legitmatley beaten both James Toney and Bernard Hopkins. He is great...
"oh well jones wouldnt go to germany to fight michealfagski and he ducked steve collins, nigel benn, gerald mcclellan, and chrsi eubank cause obviously they would have knocked him out easily." thats the kind of gayness fags say about jones, all of them were good exceot collins and michalfagski but come on people none of thme could have lasted with jones. jones would have ripped them all apart easily. anyway i think its mainly because jones looks so impressive against everyone he fights that people got to the point of overlooking the fact of how good they really were and just were noticing how bad he made them look because hes that fucking good. they started saying shit like "he only fights bums" which couldnt have been further from the truth he just made them look like shit cause hes so much better, thats how damn good he is.
