Good post OP. That's how I feel about this situation. Floyd Mayweather is just setting a pretext to duck Manny. If he gets backed into a corner and has no other option but to fight Manny, due to public pressure, he's already got a built in excuse for when he loses. Money May knows Pacquiao is a legit threat. It's clear he doesn't want the fight. Now Mayweather is saying 60/40, lol. He's a great fighter with skills, but what an insecure, ignorant moron.

Yes, Max says a lot of stupid shit. I remember in the Calzaghe-Jones fight, he said in round 2, " Roy Jones Jr. is making Calzaghe look like a washed up Felix Trinidad." The tone in his voice, you could tell he said it all pompous and snidy. He couldn't control his emotions and spoke too soon, when literally seconds after Max made that brilliant comment, Calzaghe had Jones on the ropes befuddling him with punches, both to the body and head (and was a round he won on the official scorecards). In hindsight, the comment looked even worse when you're sitting there watching the fight in round 12 after witnessing Jones get dominated for the vast majority of the fight. The dickhead went from "Jones is making Calzaghe look like a bum" to "Jones is washed up" in a matter of a few rounds. That's only one example. There are dozens of others. I personally like when Steward owns Max on what's really happening in a fight. Steward makes some visual mistakes sometimes, but no where near the level that Kellerman does.

After tonight, Calzaghe > Dawson. Dawson is a good fighter still, but he was overrated. He has good technical boxing skills, but he takes too many breaks and doesn't have the work-rate or stamina to keep up with Calzaghe. Joe blow would have outworked him for a UD.

Calzaghe can beat any overrated yank, Andre Ward, Chad Dawson, Kelly Pavlik. Andre Ward would probably be the hardest fight though with his mauling headbutting style. Those dirty ass fighters are always the hardest fighters to beat. Agree. Like his fight against Bika.

Y'all are fools if you think MMA's rise in popularity can easily be deflated. Boxing and its lone ego-maniac has already started to pull his own sport down. After PAC and Flomo, who else do you have ? While boxing fans laugh at UFC's PPV #s when compared to boxing's two titans, hey atleast they have other options. Can you mention any other boxers that can consistently pull in between 500k - 350k in PPVs, the answer is no, and that's not a good sign. Look around the metro-areas, how many MMA gyms do you see, now, the next question is, how many boxing only gyms do you see in those same areas ? Just go into your bookstore, how many MMA mags are on display, you'll be lucky if you see a boxing mag in the sports section. Now, how about your local sportsbars, how many of 'em carry MMA PPVs on a consistent basis, the only time you'll see Bars carrying boxing is if PAC and that other guy is fighting. This is a good post. MMA isn't going anywhere, and neither is boxing. I don't know why fans of either sport are so damn insecure about what sport is more popular. MMA is growing though, it's difficult to deny that.

Boxing has also been making a modest comeback in America lately, thanks in large part to the UFC (and obviously Pacquaio, Mayweather and a lot of exciting FREE fights on the networks). If you're a 'fight fan' times couldn't be better. Competition is what's best for MMA & boxing. Both sports can co-exist and benefit from one another (like they have been doing).

I disagree. In order to 'kill MMA' you need to go after the 18-35 y/o demographic that dominates the MMA audience, and the advertisers/companies that cater to them. After all, the advertisers are promoting some of the UFC's biggest stars. You somehow need to convince them that MMA is just a fad and there is no skilled involved and that it's not a real sport and it's "gay." No one can criticise Khan taking this fight in July if it does happen. Khan v Maidana won't happen until fall regardless. So it's either Khan v Katsidis in July or Khan v No one. I thought Khan and Warren moved aside from Kats at Lightweight. Kats is a puncher who will test Khan's chin and probably be there for the distance at least. How can anyone criticise Khan if he steps in the ring 2 months after an 11 round match, against an opponent as dangerous as Katsidis? Still, I doubt it will happen. Good post. Pacquiao can knock out a regular Joe and stomp his ass out. GSP can do the same thing to the regular Joe in the form of punches, knees, elbows and kicks.....he can also break your legs, arms or put you to sleep via a RNC. I would be terrified to face either guy one on one. You're bound to get decimated by both.

Sorry, but, Wladimir is an ATG and will be remembered as an ATG when he retires. He isn't the best heavyweight in generic terms ONLY because he doesn't have the resume. BUT: He's the most gifted heavyweight of all time. Period. Now before you reply with an emotional nonsensical rant, take a minute and really asses the situation. Look at his skills. There is no denying Wladimir is the greatest big man to ever fight. He might not have the power that Lewis had, but he's faster and has better footwork. He's also more athletic than Lewis was with better defense. Basically, Wladimir is better at what he does, than Lewis was at what he did. Wladimir is more dominant. Lack of opposition, yes, I'll give you that. It still doesn't take away from the fact Wlad is SO MUCH BETTER than all the other heavyweights minus his brother, Vitali. Wladimir is the most technically superior heavyweight of all time. Every punch he throws is text-book. His jab is among the best of all time in ANY division. Wlad is so damn good, and so dominant that people in America want him to retire BECAUSE he's always in control. Go back and watch his fight with Mercer. Pay attention to what Ronnie Shields has to say about Wlad's punching power, speed, etc. Whether you like it or not, he will go down as an ATG and will most definitely be in the HOF.

Everybody knows Lewis was afraid to rematch Vitali, including Lewis, which is why he is so defensive about the topic. Quivering in fear for a year, dithering about a rematch, saying yes and then no and changing his mind back and forth, tells you all you need to know. Vitali retired Lewis. That's fact. There's also a lot of revisionist history involved when discussing the Vitali-Lewis fight. People always neglect to mention that Vitali had 10 days' notice! For the heavyweight championship of the world! And he took it. Both Klit brothers are always in shape, but 10 days notice for the biggest fight of your life? C'mon. Why do you think Lewis was so hesitant to grant him a rematch? He knew, for one, he got lucky in giving Vitali a cut, and secondly, Lewis KNEW that, given enough preparation Vitali comes into the rematch and most likely wins. Lewis had doubt. This isn't just wild speculation. Remember when the debate was raging on whether those two were going to hook up (a much anticipated) for a rematch - and Lewis wanted "proof that Vitali was up to the challenge and that his eye is completely healed"? Lewis wanted to see how Vitali fared against Kirk Johnson. Well, Vitali blew him away. THEN Lewis comes up with some other sh!t and basically said he had to get past Corrie Sanders before he would grant Vitali the rematch. Vitali passed both tests. This is when Lewis walked away - and FINALLY made a decision. He was hoping, praying, that Vitali would lose to either one. Again, Vitali had a little over a week to prepare for Lewis. Look how good he did. Lewis knew/knows this, those of us who remember the time period and the talks leading up to the first clash knew/know this. There's no escaping this fact. Now in the actual fight: People love to claim that Vitali had his mouth open, was breathing hard, etc. Vitali ALWAYS fights with his mouth open. He always looks tired. But he keeps on throwing punches. He's always had an amazing gas tank. See, people used to use this excuse for determining the likely outcome of the fight had it went on a round or two more. But in hindsight, years later, we KNOW Vitali fights like he's tired. He can dig down. Sh!t, he threw 800 or so punches in his fight against Chris Arreola (missing rounds 11 and 12). He would have threw almost 1000 punches, if not more, had the fight went to a decision. So........... George Foreman even mentioned during the fight, "boy, if it wasn't for that eye.........." meaning Vitali most likely would have been victorious.......meaning Lewis was LUCKY Vitali had that nasty cut. Hell, Lewis is still insecure when it comes to the Klit brothers (yes, both of them). Even when he's commentating a fight on HBO he can't hold back on puffing out his chest against Wladimir (reference the Wlad Klitschko-Rahman fight). Bottom line. Lewis played a calculated, logical move in retiring when he did. He knew that facing a fully prepared Vitali = a sure loss.
