I live near his home, I used to watch him spar with huge guys and dismantle them, belive me he can take a 140 pounder punch..
That's dope. And that's legit. I feel like a lot of people advocating for him to be #1 are doing so without having even watched many of his fights and appearing to be "in the know" because he's been under the radar for so long.
He's on my P4P list, but in the bottom half. Definitely not #1.
IMO, Absolutely the most deserving.
I think this is the ignorance of the casual/pretend to be serious Boxing fan not being aware of the scene below Featherweight.
OR... this could be the wannabe "in the know" boxer putting RG as #1 to appear more knowledgable since they have a guy most people never watch as the top P4P guy...just saying.
And I get P4P is subjective. It also depends on what you base it on. Some guys go on accomplishments. Some go who truly the most skilled/hardest to beat which is what I do. Like Lomachenko has less than 10 fights...but he's demonstrated that he might be the most skilled boxer in the game. He really doesn't have a weakness. His amateur record has to even be factored. Yes it's subjective, but one must also be able to rationalize their list. There are multiple right answers but there are certainly some wrong ones. Not saying RG is wrong, but I don't understand how he's more deserving than some of these others.
It's easier said than done when you are in with a guy as awkward as Maidana. You can tell his awkwardness threw Mayweather off. I don't believe for one minute Floyd fought that fight for the fans. Maidana FORCED that fight upon him at least in the first half. Once Maidana slowed down mid fight (from all the body work), Floyd took over the fight.
Interesting comment about the training though. Also interesting to hear Floyd Sr who supposedly is all about defense saying Floyd needs to throw more punches. The downside of throwing a lot of punches is compromised defense...regardless, I agree with him. In previous tough fights like this where guys have pressed him and threw a lot of punches, Floyd was a lot more active.
My observations on this fight...
1. If Broner fought the way he fought in Round 4 all the time, he'd probably beat everybody at 140
2. Broner indeed has great conditioning. That knockdown punch with 20 seconds left in RD 12 snapped just like his punches did in RD 1.
3. Mike Stafford is a great coach. His advice was spot on.
4. Broner is CLEARLY attempting to evolve his style and box a little more.
5. Despite #4, he still needs to develop this style some more.
6. Broner DOES listen. When encouraged to box, I could see Broner early in the round following attempting to box more, use head movement and be more elusive.
7. If you haven't boxed, you can't understand just how difficult it is to change styles and the habits that enabled him to become a 3x world champ. Will take time.
8. Guys who can box on the outside will still give Broner fits.
9. Guys with power are still a great danger to Broner until his boxing style evolves more.
10. Broner's ring entrance was wildly entertaining.
11. Broner is easily the most charismatic person in the sport today.
12. The fight was good, but honestly, it shouldn't have been this close. Shows Broner still has work to do.
13. Great post fight interview and show of respect by Broner
14. Taylor is a solid B fighter. Not much more.
15. Inside fighting is fun to watch. Wish there were more fighters really good at it.
Lara. But Floyd did a better job out boxing Canelo, obviously
Not disputing that. But honestly, Canelo didn't fight anywhere near as aggressive against Floyd as he did with Lara. Which is strange considering Lara touched him cleanly more.
Think Mayweather....he actually walked Canelo down at points and battered him. Lara landed a couple nice one two combos each round but never followed up with anything else. He blew that fight IMO.
He was walking him down, but there were very few really clean and hard punches landed in that fight by either guy. Lara landed very clean and hard more than a handful of times.
Excuses are pointless in general because nobody cares. With that said, some of these excuses sound lame from an outside perspective, but if you've boxed, you know some of them can be a big deal.
diarrhea for one or any sort of stomach problems ****s you up. Diarrhea especially because it drains your body of liquids. If you actually feel like you have to shiet WHILE fighting? That's all bad lol.
Gloves is another bigger deal than people may realize. Especially if you fight with a punchers glove like Cleto Reyes. Gloves can be the identical oz but have a completely different feel. Some look and feel literally like pillows...others are much more compact and they hurt your opponent more and enable you to punch faster...all while being the same weight.
Even though it was after a win...I always liked...
"I broke my back..."
I came out to this...
I'm all about technique...and the song isn't too "hype". I didn't want something that would get me too hype...was trying to stay relaxed.
If I fought again, I'd strongly consider coming out to this...
When I think about just how much time I spend watching boxing and training...the only thing I probably do more is work and sleep. That would be VERY tough to give up. MMA doesn't even really properly fill that void.
Yeah, he has a great mentality. Though, in reality, what other option does he have?
True...but he had an option to fight GGG at a catchweight and he opted not to. It shows he'd likely have the same mentality regardless.
Good to not have to worry about where to watch Broner's PPV.
I do hope Broner and Canelo soon become PPV worthy though. Put your bullshiet hate for Broner aside and think about the sport of boxing not having ANY PPV worthy fighters. Stars like Broner who can draw casuals are good for the sport.
This is exactly my thinking. Good for Gabe, but it's either do what he's doing or have a non-career fighting meaningless club fights. There was an interview posted a couple of weeks back with Rosado. He spoke of how he just recently gave up his day job. The man wants to be a real pro fighter. There's no other way.
Dayum........
Amin is solid. He reminds me of Leo Santa Cruz which is a big compliment.
Your core style is moving forward, standing toe to toe, good body work and responsible defense. You may struggle against guys who force you to fight off your back foot or who can move and box you on the outside. You may want to get more comfortable fighting those styles before you run into one in a match that counts.
Listen...I agree that IF Ward is able to back GGG up, smother him on the inside and force him to fight off his backfoot, he beats GGG...and that is assuming GGG doesn't improve in those areas...but let's not act like this fight is a cake walk for Ward.
Ward often rushes in to smother...GGG is always in position to punch and has power...Ward hasn't had to walk through that type of guy to smother. And Ward doesn't have the power to keep GGG off of him on the outside. You're fooling yourself if you think GGG is easy work for Ward.
And of course Ward will touch GGG...GGG is there to be hit, but Ward ain't knocking GGG out.
If Ward could back GGG up, he'd beat him. GGG's achilles heal like a lot of fighters like him is their inability to fight off their back foot. But he'd have to walk through his arsenal...it would be a tough fight for Ward.
this fights getting slept on. great fight imo. andrade is a good long southpaw who throws some hard shots, i think he gives anybody at 54 problems. and vanes is a bit underrated for a guy who beat a lot of good names in the amateurs and held his own versus lara.
who's andrade's promoter anyway?
^^^^ This....
Pacquiao = Counter punchers
Rigondeaux = Inside Fighting (maybe)
Broner = Himself
Maidana = Movement and boxing ability
Lucas Matthysse = Movement and boxing ability
Golovkin = English
I don't see how anybody believes Maidana has a shot against Broner. Broner's defense is too good in the pocket. He'll see everything Maidana throws at him and he'll pick him apart. I wouldn't be surprised if this fight doesn't resemble what he did to DeMarco.
TS talked to a f#cking doctor, who used his background to speculate about magomed's condition given the facts presented to us through the media. all of this was made explicit in the post.
just delete your account, dude. no good comes from it.
LOL
WTF is wrong with these posters?
Being honest? What? He's speculating and then giving some pretty horrid advice like "give up and donate", and it hasn't even been a week. The **** is that? That's not just cold, it's dumb as hell.
First of all, he didn't give advice. He's talking to his flucking friend for christ sakes. WTF are you talking about? He never advised to "give up and donate"...he's saying that's probably the situation they're in. This is a common situation for most situations like this.
Second, every prognosis in medicine is an assumption based on the information known at that time and what has happened in similar situations in the past. There is PLENTY of information regarding to what's happened to Mago to make a reasonable assumption on the prognosis of his condition. It's not like this has not happened numerous times in various situations.
Third, you guys sound like idiots being upset at this doctor for giving his opinion to his friend. THIS IS THE REALITY OF BOXING! It sucks...but it is what it is. Your hyper irrational response to the reality of it won't change it.
