I enjoyed the beating Hamed got from Barrera so much I bought the video on Ebay so I can watch him being humiliated again and again.
He failed at his first big test and never came back for a re-match like a champion should.
Yeah, but look at how they performed against their respective opponents. Kessler has always looked good, where Calzaghe has had some sloppy fights
After many, many months being Kessler's number 1 nut-hugger you finally have a good point to make about a Calzaghe/Kessler fight.
Kessler has earned his right for a shot at Joe and now Joe will lose face if this fight doesn't get made. Don't expect it to happen soon though...Frank Warren will string out the negotiations for months and months until eventually a desperate Kessler will agree to fight in Britain for peanuts.
Then the fun happens...you see Joe Calzaghe only has poor performances over people who come to survive..when his opponent walks forward looking for a KO....well all I will say is look what happened to the younger, stronger Lacy when he tried to KO Joe.
Expect a lopsided decision for Calzaghe.
How many Hatton threads you gonna make, Dino? I don't even like the pasty paler but the amount of ill-inform bile that gets spread about him on here makes my hair curl sometimes.
I love the way people talk about Hatton fighting "nobodies", but then acknowledge that he never had the chance to fight anyone else. The guy was kept out of the loop for years due to lack of US funding, and since he got it he's had three back-to-back world title fights, against admittedly variable opposition.
The weight issue isn't an issue, it was clearly stated that HBO wanted him to move up, against the wishes of his trainer.
Lastly, all the talk about "we know what he's like at 147". No, we don't. We might do, but isn't it a little early to judge on ONE fight, and against a southpaw that he clearly had difficulty with? Let's not make rash judgements after just ONE fight.
Slow Clap.
Stepping up a weight class, on a few weeks notice to face a tricky southpaw who is also the belt holder was always gonna give Hatton problems, but he got through it and now he can spend a year bullying the new boys at 140 (JLC & Corrales)..shutting the mouth of a few belt holding no-talents (Witter & Cotto) and then finally take a shot at the big prize (PBF).
I wasn't being serious about Cotto, he has lots of talent and is a pleasure to watch, but Witter..I respect his boxing skills as much as I respect Dino's skills for putting together a coherent argument.
show me some facts..i heard he had trouble making weight..thats why he moved to 147 in the first place
Hatton has NEVER had to return to the scale a second time...he's always made weight first time around....
With Castillo, Corrales and Cotto all at 140 he's still got plenty of live Jr Welters to face...lets hope the fights get made
I'm not tryna bash him I think he's a good fighter but he's too talented to not have better challenges by now and from here on out. I know PPL will say nobody wanted to fight him but we all know if him and his team wanted to they could've made these fight's.
From BBC.co.uk today
"We talked to the guy who beat Howard Eastman and his management said yes, but then he turned down the fight."
Calzaghe was philosophical about the delay, saying: "I've been through it before.
"Maybe people are thinking twice after seeing my last performance against Jeff Lacy.
I was a real Cotto sceptic after seeing Torres have him out on his feet, but since then Cotto has looked good breaking down decent fighters like malignaggi...
This is the turning point in Cotto's career, if he can break down and defeat Zab the world is his oyster....but for some reason I see Zab's speed giving him fits.
It's gonna be a great fight.
stop talking bullocks
So did I imagine it when they held Sanders hands aloft after he knocked wlad out???
Learn your facts, It's not just Brewster who exposed Wlad.
Brewster earned the win with his chin, but he would have gotten brutalized if Wlad kept the stamina that he showed his entire career, before and since.
Oh, and against Sanders too...don't forget when he gassed out then got knocked out by him too.
A win against Calzaghe after Joe's utter domination of Lacy would have propelled Roy straight back into the bigtime...It was on the table, I guess he didn't feel he could win????
of course you want to see two fights that everyone who knows their ass from a hole in the ground knows cant happen for at least a year.
rahman.... maskaev plus toney rematch
brewster... eye surgery plus lyko rematch
i suppose its wlads fault he wont be able to land the only two fights that will make you happy?
I liked the way that Wlad fought on Saturday, he looked lennox like....but all I'm saying is that for me he has a huge question mark over his head against decent punchers....Byrd was the best fight out there for him cos he just stood there and took the jab, threw nothing and has very little power. I want to get excited about Wlad's skills, but until he faces a decent puncher I will reserve judgement.
If Vitali is so confident he can beat Lennox, surely he also believes he could beat most of the heavyweights out there, so why doesn't he??? I thought he had retired due to unrecoverable injuries?
no one is talkin about his chin dummy,,were talking about stamina,,,,just why he got so gassed so quickly and it never happened before. he lost the sanders fight becuz he got bombed out. with brewster it was all his,,until he just seemed to totally run out of gas and couldnt keep his arms up. was strange. maybe it was nerves plus too many power shots. who knows for sure
Watch the fight Dummy, he comes out in a bad rush to finish Sanders early, throwing all kinds of bombs and drops his hands after repeated flurries. His hands are round his waist and he gets clocked. If you'd ever laced up a set of gloves you would know that it is possible to get gassed out after just a few rounds if you get tense and start throwing wildly.
It looks like Manny Steward has worked with him on pacing himself thoughout the round so hopefully we won't see it again.
I hope he fights Toney next. Someone has to shut him up.
+1. I would love to see Wlad pick apart then destroy that fat-assed loudmouth. He'll have to drag him out of McDonalds first.
i honestly think that he could beat Lewis, Lewis in my opinion was over-rated and champion at a time Heavyweight boxing was at a low. Lewis would get KO'd from the power of Klitchko.
I still think that Wlad has to confidently beat a decent puncher before we all swing off his nutsack. Byrd has feather fists and stood right in front of him, it's like he was part of stewards plan. Lets see a brewster re-match or a fight with Rahman.
For christs sake.
Who was he supposed to fight in his second fight back from his first loss against the best the division has to offer?
Because it was like a tuneup and it wasn't supposed to really turn heads. I also don't know why everyone thought Long was this tank....that was going to survive the distance.
After such a performance against Wlad he needs to keep his opposition level high. This fight was a waste of his time and his gain of weight between fights makes his conditioning looked suspect. If he wants to beat Wlad in a re-match he needs to step up the opposition and start working on his fitness...otherwise Klitschko will kill him.
if Calzaghe really has the balls he says he has since his big victory over My boy he should make this fight happen.
Why not fight a big name american for a decent payday on HBO or Showtime rather than going down a class for this protected German??? Joe should mop the floor with Manfredo then take out Tarver or Jones....it's not about balls, he proved he had plenty of those when he practically T-bagged your boy with them, it's about earning some decent paydays and cementing his legacy.
Lets face it, it's easy for Vitali to call out boxers who are retired and will never box again, far easier than mixing it up with the current crop of heavyweights, some of who might beat him with his current injury problems.
he's calling out lennox cos he's an attention whore who failed in his bid to become a politician just as he failed in his bid to beat lennox and become undisputed. He should thank the ref, Lou Moret, for stopping it when he did otherwise he would be blind in one eye right now. Lennox had found his range and would have tore his face to pieces.
Wlad looked great this past weekend, Manny is doing a great job with him, but lets not get too excited until we see him fight someone who can punch and who doesn't just stand in front of him at perfect range cos past performances leave a question mark.
Old school my ass, when he fights another fighter that can punch and actually box just a LITTLE bit, he will get KTFO...
Peter can't box for shit, and ever punch he landed on Wlad knocked him down...LMFAO!
Wlad does need to impress against someone like Rahman or Peter.
Definition of a nutlicker =
Someone who creates a thread about one fighter, so it can turn into a discussion about their hero.
Jangeorg.....get some new material.
Seriously. Kessler would be destroyed by Calzaghe. Joe is 2 classes above him in experience and skill, but I guess we'll never know cos it's highly unlikely that this fight will ever get made.
I'm still a Wlad doubter i'm afraid, after seeing him gas out against Sanders and Brewster, but boxers learn from their mistakes and it was quite evident that Manny Steward has spent a lot of time working on Wlad pacing himself. Every time the bell rang Manny sat him down, calmed him down and kept him on the gameplan...jab, jab..bomb.
Wlad is starting to box like a prime Lewis, sitting Byrd on the end of a poleaxe jab, not letting them get inside until he is softened up enough to start dropping right hand bombs. For a guy who is Wlad's size it's a winning formula and it looks like he'll be unstoppable if he listens to his corner.
Maybe Wlad, and more importantly Steward, have learned the lessons that they needed to.
True,Baldomir is no world beater.
Someone is going to have to clue me in on why Baldy is not gonna beat Gatti, He just beat Judah and Rodriguez, and hasn't been beaten in nearly 8 years. I've only seen the Judah and Rodriguez fights, but he looked to me like he has the potential to give Gatti trouble.
Styles make fights remember, Ricky's team always knew that a rangy southpaw like Collazo would give them problems on Ricky's first fight at 147.
I'll put it to you this way, on Ricky's WORST day in the ring (worst that I've seen anyway, and I've seen most of his fights), he still outworked and outboxed the WBA champion in his first fight at a higher weight. Not a bad worst night when you become a 2 weight world champion.
Next fight they'll be a different style match-up and so expect to see Ricky performing at his best with fast, precise body attacks and constant agression.
also not a bad worst night when you are exposed and half the world thinks you lost.
Exposed as a 2 weight world champion, beating the WBA belt holder on his first fight at 147, maintaining his perfect record and only losing on the scorecards of people who can't score boxing. Yep, that's exposed!
Styles make fights, lets see who he beats next. Hopefully it'll be another one of your PR boys, Cotto.
