Silva reminds me allot of Roy Jones Jr. when he went to Heavyweight and then back to Light Heavyweight quickly. I think the weight gains and drops really destroy a fighter. Silva did the same and it really messed up his speed. Silva needs to retire he is no longer capable of fighting top caliber fighters without risking getting knocked out. Silva used to have one of the best chins and if not recoveries for sure. No more.
An obvious publicity stunt to promote an event that is getting no promotion ... any boxing fan should clearly know that a fighter with no boxing experience at all would never be given a title shot by any governing body and I would highly doubt there was ever an instance in boxing history where this has happened.
I voted no because its "simply" not true.
He retired after defeating who most considered the weaker brother. He didn't look well in that fight, and probably would have lost. He was 38 I believe and had a long career.
A fight with Vitali, a rematch, would have been mega bucks for both and possibly saved the sport because their fight was really the last major heavyweight mega bout... since it happened.
So to say he retired to avoid fighting him is probably not true. I think Lewis knew he would lose the rematch, he no longer physically had it. I guess he wasn't willing to take a shot at it, the money didn't outweigh his legacy. He choose his legacy.
Many would consider him top 10 of all time if polled right now, if he lost, who knows? People change their mind rather quickly.
I think it would be on ITV in the UK. ITV is free to air.
Looks like you may well be getting ripped off.
No one is going to be watching this fight in the United States, its going to be boring, Williams will come out of shape, same old story. Harrison by boring UD or late KO.
i hope my sportsbook has a line on this fight. i like igbraminov too. anyone who isnt afraid of whittaker can beat him.
I'm putting some moeny on my fellow Russian. No doubt.
yes but it could happened , for example Tyson vs ernesto hoost was almost done . and Tyson vs Sapp to , but that fights never happened
I highly doubt it will happen. Vitali is injured, and he doesn't need the money. Boxing pays much more than MMA fights do. Vitali would probably get destroyed in MMA.
tyson said he dont care about the money. and he said he'll do it for charity and all he wants to do is whoop his ass. and he said even if he was droppin hygrogiene bombs he still wouldnt knock the blackness off of tarver. tyson sounds pretty fuckin pist. i read the full transcript on boxingtalk.
I hope this fight happens, will be great :D
Who cares? The general consensus amongst boxing fans is that we are demanding a unification tournament. Any other non-unification fights with the current beltholders in 2006 is irrelevant.
Well this is a fight that will lead to the tournament because Maskaev beat Sam for the #1 spot to fight Rahman. I don't know if a tournmanet will happen, Byrd doesn't want to do business with Don King anymore and Brewster is not too happy as well. Rahman also left, only guy left is Ruiz.
I watched his last fight, the fighter he fought who was 15-3 looked like a tub of fat. I'm his supporter and I'd like for him to succeed, but its definetly too early. He still needs to gain much more weight, or else he should move down to cruiserweight. So far he has fought no one at all, but yeah his punch is very hard.
Yeah one of his fights went 2 rounds.
Rhaman signed a multi fight contract with King last month.
I don't but for a second that he's walking away. There's going to much more to this story.
Last time King wanted to persuade Rahman (after the 1st Lewis fight) all it took was a brif case full of cash.
Rahman is broke, and the Toney fight and ensuing tourney are the best options for Rock money wise.
Just check boxing talk, I'm not getting this out of my ass.
"Word has reached Boxingtalk.com that WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, who may be a promotional free agent as this goes to print, is looking to face Oleg Maskaev instead of James "Lights-Out" Toney as promoter Don King was planning."
and...
"Sources close to the situation have informed Boxingtalk.com that IBF heavyweight champion Chris Byrd is now a promotional free agent."

What about the legendary Fedor emelianenko ( best pride fighter off all time ) ?
vitaly vs fedor :) would be a fight of the century .
but vitaly quited
No idea where that came from. Fedor is still heavyweight champ, not a legend yet. Vitali woulden't be able to fight him because boxing and mma is completely different.
He was just patient waiting to hit Mitchell with the overhand right, same punch that Tszyu was succesful with against Mitchell. He did seem a bit slow but he was trying to utilize his defense.
Who says this is "in the works"? Last I heard, Toney-Rahman was happening.
Well on boxing talk they reported that Rahman is now a free agent, and that Top Rank has offered him a deal to fight Maskaev instead of Don King's plan to fight Toney.
Toney = next unified heavyweight champion. There's not a heavyweight alive Toney can't beat.
Just a question, what if Tarver moves up to heavyweight, you think Tarver will be able to beat Toney?
You obviously did NOT see Byrd-Williamson.
Doesn't matter, Wlad is now the mandatory so he has to fight Wlad next or else he will face the same problems that Vitali is facing and have his title's stripped. So no tournament for him.
