According to the UFC, Floyd "Money" Mayweather will be at UFC 92 tonight as a guest of honor. Ricky Hatton and David Haye will also be there. Apparently Joe Rogan will be doing an interview with Mayweather about his return and his desire to fight Pacquiao.
BTW...Wand will KO Rampage again!!!
Yes, I understand why Lesnar got the title shot so soon. And guess what ?
It was a genius move by the UFC to do so, and has paid dividends thus far, and its not stopping there.
And with whom is this sport losing credibility with ?
Boxing fans ? LOL
Their goal by signing Brock Lesnar was to get the attention of the casual onlookers, and those who otherwise would never be watching a UFC event.
It worked.
And in regards to your last paragraph.
Look at boxing, and how many different sanctioning bodies there are.
Then, multiply that by the ridiculous amount of weight classes that boxing has.
Then, look at all of the different promoters and their unwillingness to put their best fighters against the best.
The mess in professional boxing is far worse than the situation with MMA.
How could you not see that ?
No not boxing fans but the mainstream media. I read numerous articles that jokingly mocked the legitimacy of the sport. If you dont think a 2-1 MMA fighter getting a title shot and beating a LEGEND isnt embarassing than I dont know what to say.
And yeah it worked out for the UFC but that wasnt the issue. The point was they didnt really have any marketable stars other than Liddell, Couture, Ortiz who all are old or out of the UFC altogether. A. Silva cant even draw 400,000 PPV buys and hes the best fighter arguably in the sport of MMA. GSP cant headline a card and get more than 400-500,000 buys.
In fact, UFCs THREE biggest PPV's all had LESNAR in them.
And im not an idiot. I realize boxing has problems but MMA has alot of problems as well. All I know is this year in boxing I got to see some great fights that ive wanted to see for awhile now. Calzaghe/Hopkins, Pacman/Marquez, Hatton/Malignaggi, Adamek/Cunningham. I realize that boxing does have problems because there are some fights that ill likely never be able to see but MMA's 10,000 organizations and a list of great fighters fighting outside the UFC is a problem for the sport and MMA is also talking about adding in new weight classes.
MMA has problems, boxing has problems. Who cares whos worse because they are both bad.
There are alot of wrestlers in MMA. Lesnar didnt get a title shot because of that. He got it SOLELY because of his popularity. And that is what makes a sport lose credibility.
Listen, we can complain about each sports problems but the bottom line is combat sports will always be full of corruption. In MMA you have guys getting title shots after 2 fights and you have 0-1 fighters getting a crack at Fedor. In boxing NO WAY in hell would you get a 0-1 fighter to take on Calzaghe. And there is no way in hell promoters would be able to get away with it.
The problem with MMA is that one ORGANIZATION dominates the sport and the problem with that is people dont know who the best fighters are in the sport. Is Fedor the best? Or is Mir, or is Lesnar. And the worst part is they WILL NEVER FIGHT EACH OTHER because the UFC doesnt cross promote. So in boxing some fights are unlikely but arent impossible whereas in MMA some FIGHTS literally are IMPOSSIBLE.

How could you not see that ?
You don't have to take it seriously.
There are paying customers who do, and the sport is doing just fine without people like you.
You obviously have no clue what you're talking about.
Boxing doesn't even have a unified sanctioning body. The fact is this is tainting the sport.
The UFC has power to make any fight they feel their fans want to see, without having to negotiate what kind of gloves to use, or what kind of split the fighters are getting.
Lesnar got a title shot because he is a decorated wrestler, but more because he brings big business to a growing sport.
How could you compare boxing, which has been around for hundreds of years, to a sport that hasn't even truly established itself in mainstream popular culture ?

Screw boxing, I don't know of ANY sport that gives fighters the "championship" after 2 anything---football, basketball, golf, tennis, swimming, anything really.
Put it this way...ITS HARDER TO WIN THE NOVICE GOLDEN GLOVES ANYWHERE....you fight like 5 or 6 times for that....and thats not even pro...not even close. Which is why I can't take MMA seriously...it is like Wrestling to me.
I read Fox Sports recap ofthe Evans fight, and they were tlaking about the "guard" and boring sh*t like that..why would 20,000 people gather around a ring watching 2 people play with eachother...boxing is a much more exciting spectacle...you've got grace, footwork, great fights with nonstop flow of action..

The bad thing with mma that is forming is the other organizations. Affliction for example is putting out good fights, but the titles are meaningful cause there's only a few cards a year. Also Fedor is never going to fight Lesnar/Mir so we'll never really know who the beast heavy is.

Last time I checked Boxing doesnt give fighters title shots after 2 fights (Lesnar).

Know what helps the UFC? Truth in sports. And they have that. Boxing has not. Simple as that. Most people were rooting for Forrest and Silva and Nogueira, yet the other guys won. This helps the UFC because the fittest, the most able guys get their deserving wins. It is possible to go around these nature rules in boxing through promotion, and under the table dirty deals. A clear example is Bernard Hopkins or Holyfield, both well over 40 still fighting for tittles to make other guys look good. Neither these old legends or the Vultures who take advantage of their aging bodies are the fittest or the best. In the UFC they are. The UFC biggest stars have all fallen (Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Shamrock guys) and this leads to new talent and renovation NOT TO MENTION VERY EXCITING FIGHTS. You don't see many 40 year olds holding tittles they don't deserve and defending against carefully chosen opposition like it happens in boxing. In boxing the biggest fights are always the exception and not the rule. Rulling bodies always always! present SHIT as mandatory challengers. Not in the UFC. This among other reason made me BUY the UFC 92 (and 91) but miss out on ANY of boxing's events in 08. Think about it, i put my money where my mind and mouth are.
What many believe to be the best fighter in MMA (Fedor) has in the last 2 years fought a MIDDLEWEIGHT while Fedor was around 230lb's, he fought a GIANT of a man who had 1 MMA fight and no athleticism and than he fought the former UFC champion who in the last year had losses over Noguiera and Couture. Both of whom just recently lost their last fight.
Fedor just like guys like Calzaghe are great fighters but you never know if they are truly the greatest because they arent fighting the sports youngest stars and Fedor isnt even apart of the sports best MMA org where all the best fighters are at.
MMA is FULL of corruption and im sick and tired of people ignoring this.

He just got owned by ONE punch in the first round. No version of Silva could have taken that. That was a BRUTAL hook, hell, no HW could have taken that!
The problem is he let it happen. And if you're a technically sound boxer you know enough not to throw wide looping hooks right in the pocket against a solid counter puncher. He doesnt help that Silvas CHIN was sticking out.
Man, I just cant get over the fact that this supposed to be top level MMA were watching and yet these guys have brutal technique.
The only guys I like watching are Penn, GSP, Noons, A. Silva.
True man and that is why I like the UFC. I saw that video you posted of Dana white talking about that scumbag Gary Shaw and how he paid Petruzelli to stand up with Kimbo. The most popular fighter shouldn't win because he's popular, he should win because he's the best.
I didn't know about that. I just looked up the video after I read your post.

I agree on some of that. I hate some of boxings politics.
The UFC is far from perfect. But even Dana says he uses boxing as a example, of what not to do.

didnt happen, this was a buullshit post from a bullshitter poster, called by me in minutes. im just glad he stopped PMing me finally
I bet you get that alot on here. lol
Yeah I dont know why that guy would say that. It doesnt help UFC in any way.

Cant see that happening
Because it never did.
No way Floyd gets mic time on a UFC pay per view. Makes no sense for them.
Why not? He's a fighter is he not?
The UFC always invites fighters of all disiplines.

Silva is so past his prime now. Really never been right since he left Pride.
But yeah that left hook was perfect.
Silva reminds me allot of Roy Jones Jr. when he went to Heavyweight and then back to Light Heavyweight quickly. I think the weight gains and drops really destroy a fighter. Silva did the same and it really messed up his speed. Silva needs to retire he is no longer capable of fighting top caliber fighters without risking getting knocked out. Silva used to have one of the best chins and if not recoveries for sure. No more.
