I was saying that at this point of Rahman's career, a fight with Maskaev would make more sense for him as he stands a better chance of defeating Maskaev and can avenge his humiliating KO
And in doing so you asked what Toney had done to deserve the shot, but made no mention of Maskaev's BS ranking.
On top of that, it does not make more sense for Raham to take a lesser payday when he stands a very good chance of losing to both of them.
The Toney fight is much more marketable PPV, and he'd receive 75% of the Purse. In light of his debts, it makes a lot more sense to get paid while he still can.
But really, it's all for not because he's announced he's a free agent after he'd signed a multi fight deal with King.
There will be law suits and settlements before this is all over.
The fact you'd even suggest any of the ABC organizations matter at this point at Heavyweight is a laugh in itself. There is no mandatory right now, and, for the 3rd time, I'm not sure wheather there's more irony or humor in your assertion that Toney hasn't earned a shot at the WBC title, but Maskaev has. He's a joke, and a meaningless fight.

Maskaev is ranked as a #1 contender by the WBC
Need I say more, or maybe you just missed it the first time I said it?

LOL, it's funny that you'd call me a hypocrit when you just tried to explain why Maskiev deserves a title shot, but Toney doesn't.
Maybe you missed it the 1st time, or just don't like having it pointed out that your logic is weak.Maskaev is ranked as a #1 contender by the WBC

1 - Maskaev (not Maskiev) is rated as a #1 contender by the WBC, Toney is what, #5?
2 - Maskaev was the one who knocked Rahman the fuck out of the ring
3 - Who has Toney beat at HW?
Holyfield, who is 2-5-2 in the last 5 years of his career? (Mind you Toney fought him second to last)
Booker? Who has he ever beat?
or Guinn, who is 1-3-1 in his last fights?
And do I even need to mention the fact that he got caught CHEATING only 7 month ago?
Just stop being a hypocrite

Right after suggesting Maskiev fight for Rahman's title (not sure what's funnier, suggesting Maskiev deserves a title shot or not realizing the irony in the fact Rahman was in line for a title this year),
you suggest Toney doesn't deserve to fight for another title?
No one around at the moment of the top 5 or 6 rated fighters 'deserves' a title shot.
At this point, the only thing that's relevent is who the fans want to see.
When you add that to the fact that Rahman would stand to gain much more money fighting Toney than Maskiev, it's a curious move considering he's bankrupt and stands a good chance of losing to whoever it is he fights next.
If any of the heavies get away from King, I doubt we will have the tourney...the one good thing about having King around and controlling all the belts is that a tourney could become a reality...With varied promoters the negotiations to get a tourney together would be near to impossible, especially if some of the fighters are still with King

That would be the smart move for him..
Escpecially Maskaev just came of a big win.. and the fact that he KRahmanTFO would be a marketable fight.
What has Toney done at HW to get another title shot?
something neither Klitschko, Ruiz, Byrd, Valuev, Rahman, Maskaev, Peter, or Tua has been able to do
COMPLETELY DOMINATE EVERY OPPONENT YOU FACE
That would be the smart move for him..

If I were Rahman i would pick Maskaev, he could use a tune up plus get some revenge for that KO

Hasim Rahman to face Oleg Maskaev?
By G. Leon
November 16, 2005 - Word has reached Boxingtalk.com that WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, who may be a promotional free agent as this goes to print, is looking to face Oleg Maskaev instead of James "Lights-Out" Toney as promoter Don King was planning. Boxingtalk.com also understands that Top Rank Inc. has already made Rahman an offer for the Maskaev fight. Rahman and Bob Arum were both unavailable for immediate comment, but we will continue to keep you updated...
I think this is just a rumor for now..
goddammit! in the worst era for the HW division, the last thing we need is another joke of a paper champion setting up another fucking useless and disgusting fight.
Rhaman signed a multi fight contract with King last month.
I don't but for a second that he's walking away. There's going to much more to this story.
Last time King wanted to persuade Rahman (after the 1st Lewis fight) all it took was a brif case full of cash.
Rahman is broke, and the Toney fight and ensuing tourney are the best options for Rock money wise.
Just check boxing talk, I'm not getting this out of my ass.

and...
"Sources close to the situation have informed Boxingtalk.com that IBF heavyweight champion Chris Byrd is now a promotional free agent."
Why would you be embarrased? Wlad is one of the most talented and hardest hitting among the elite HW's. He already beat Byrd, he already showed that he can easily beat Brewster so long as he doesnt gass out, would most likely beat Ruiz, and has a good chance at beating Rahman or Toney. I dont see the problem. Does his skin color bother you?
No, I supported Kevin McBride in the Tyson fight. Look, I would be absolutely embarrassed to see a guy John Ruiz would knock out own a portion of the title.
Rahman also left, only guy left is Ruiz.

Of course. Mandatories are based on who the organization wants to see the champion defend against. If we have a unified champ, that's 2 fights a year tops for the heavyweight title; thus, champions get stripped and titles dispersed. But we need this tournament to have a legit champ, then belts won't matter; thus, the reason the organizations don't want a tourney.
I'm not very knowledgeable about how the organizations function so maybe you could enlighten me and the rest of the posters on this forum who don't know? First, what are their goals? Are they organised as non-for-profit entities or something else?

Yeah, I think everybody's gotta fight a mandatory before the tournament can happen. I'm thinking Rahman-Maskaev, Ruiz-Valuev, Byrd-Wlad II, and Brewster-Toney to get the ball rolling. Oh yeah, I think the Byrd and Brewster opponents should be flip-flopped to be fair (Wlad is looking for an easy fight), but if it happens this way, I won't complain too much.
I think this manadatory crap is ridculuous! Why can't the governing bodies for these organizations(IBF,WBC,etc.) decide that the best thing to do is have the other beltholders as manadatory fights? Is a unified champion less desireable for the different boxing organizations?
