Hopkins vs Wright was a horrible fight. Terrible PPV.
That fight was officially billed as "Coming To Fight".
When a supposed "fight" has a billed title implying what the athletes are supposed to be doing... someone already knew there wasn't gonna be any fighting going on in that one.
Pacquiao was 98lbs for his first pro fight, 7lbs below the minimumweight limit. I hear he had to put weights in his pocket to make 105lbs.
Duran started at what, featherweight?
Pacquiao at welterweight right now is basically like Duran at middleweight.
tito to small
Tito has 2 inches in reach and height over Canelo, and has fought from 140 to 170. Mostly a welterweight titlist, he also has titles at 154 and 160.
But Marquez has markedly regressed, plus has added weight, compared to the second fight, where he and Pacquiao were about as good as they could possibly be that night. Even if Pacquiao is no better than the second fight, which I think he is clearly better, Marquez simply won't be able to repeat that performance.
If he does, it says a lot about Manny Pacquiao.
Marquez, maybe, but I'm not too sure about Pacquiao, is it just me or does he look a bit drained at the weigh in for the 2nd JMM fight?
I remember hearing that Pac had a hard time making 130 for his last 2 fights there (JMM 2 and Barrera 2). I wouldn't be surprised, he has probably been a true light welterweight for a while now, but still barely able to make 130 (at the time).
Then he went up to 135 and put on a sick performance against David Diaz, even though Diaz is a much lesser opponent than JMM. He looked "refreshed/rejuvenated".

I could see Khan winning an exciting UD, with a score like 115-111, with Rios flooring Khan once in the late rounds.
We don't know how Rios will perform at 140, he could be slower, and/or have more stamina and a better chin if he really is having a hard time making 135.
Pacman is in despeate need of a ko, so they sweetened the pot real good for Marquez to get crushed. Remember Pacman was supposed to ko 40 year old sugar Shane, but Mosley had other plans. Pacman had better dominate & ko Marquez at 147, or his stock plumets.
Yeah, plan to trick himself into thinking he's on the series finale of Survivor. When your opponent is only in there to survive and focus 110% on defense, it's almost impossible to stop him. Barrera did the same thing in the rematch.
When not punching, it lowers the chances of your opponent catching you with a punch/punches you don't see coming with counters. Lessening the element of surprise.
I'm going with Pacquiao by UD 116-110, scoring 2 knockdowns.
do you guys think it will be entertaining atleast? Margarito was raped by Manny but it was an entertaining fight cause he kept fighting and made manny uncomfortable at times
Yes, it might be a more one sided version (in pac's favor) of their first 2 encounters, though.
You may be the biggest Floyd hater on this site. Manny arguably lost to Marquez at 130, who was about 2-3 years removed from his prime but still good...I think Floyd would UD Pac at 130 and 135. Pac would have good shot at 140 and 147 (it would be 50/50), because Floyd has lost a bit of his speed as he's gone up in weight, it's only natural. At 154, not 150, Floyd would beat Pac in a close fight, as Pac has never truly fought at 154 before.
Well, wouldn't Floyd be even more slower at 154? You say Floyd beats Pac at 130/135, but 50/50 at 140-147 because of Floyd slowing down, then Floyd beats Pac at 154? Wouldn't Floyd be even slower? (Floyd looked the slowest he's ever been when he fought DLH)
Floyd also didn't truly fight at 154, he weighed in at 150 versus DLH for their 154lbs fight, and weighed 148lbs (same as Pac did on the night he fought Marg) during the fight.
If Pac/Floyd happened at 154, we all know Pac wouldn't weigh in near 154 anyways. More like 144-148, Floyd maybe 147-150. They're not that different in weight at this point.
As for the OP, I'd give Duran and Chavez a shot at beating Floyd at 130. If Castillo gave Mayweather hell at 135, I don't see how Duran/Chavez wouldn't do any better at 130.
Interesting the only people who think that pac would think are actors, paris hilton and gay **** stars lol...99% of the boxers and trainers tell you that floyd would win..martinez,mayorga,marquez etc....
Now who does know more about boxing?? hmmm let us think for a second pactards :lol1:
Well, yeah, it's natural that non-boxing fans would choose the more energetic and exciting boxer, Pacquiao.
And even more natural for those involved in the sport to pick the more technical/smarter boxer, Mayweather. Common boxing knowledge says the smarter and more technical boxer always wins, but Pac/Mayweather is still 50/50 in my books. Both have the styles to beat each other.
Donaire moving up to fight the top featherweights
=
Pacquiao moving up to fight the top welterweights
Donaire vs. Montiel = Pacquiao vs. Hatton
Donaire vs. Salido = Pacquiao vs. Margarito
Donaire vs. Lopez = Pacquiao vs. Cotto
Donaire vs. Gamboa = Pacquiao vs. Mayweather (?)
Some interesting similarities I notice with the top 2 filipinos in the sport.
Can you imagine, Donaire vs. Rafael Marquez @ bantamweight?
Kinda reminds me of Pac/JMM III @ catchweight "semi"-welterweight.
Margo is a shot fighter and you guys cant see sh!t .
That's the whole point, this is the question. (can a shot Marg beat current Ortiz?), because we all know a non-shot Marg would kill Ortiz. So maybe Ortiz stands a chance against a shot version?
Everyone on this planet said Marg was shot against Pacquiao. Marg did everything a prime Marg would have done, constant pressure, eating 1000 shots to land his own, throwing combos when he has his opponents cornered. That fight would have been very similar if it was the Marg who fought Cotto. It's just a style-advantage for Pacquiao.
Barrera.
Cotto, sort of.
Rafael Marquez?
I think Hopkins was way more aggressive early in his career, he even admitted that he wanted to be the next Mike Tyson, lol.
A very entertaining fight, indeed.
I can imagine a more competitive Meldrick Taylor vs. Chavez Sr. version happening.
I might side with Pacquiao by a close decision (115-111), with Chavez getting floored once from a left hook/straight.
Chavez's style (primary aggression) plays into Pacquiao's hands, but since Chavez was arguably THE best at that style in the lower weightclasses, AND is very skilled overall, he will NOT be laid out flat like Hatton.
Now, imagine Duran vs. Pacquiao @ 135/140/147?
What do you mean by that, Taylor vs Chavez was competitive.
Yes, Taylor vs. Chavez was slightly competitive, but it was pretty clear who was ahead before the stoppage. Chavez was behind in most peoples' eyes.
2 official judges' cards read 107-102 and 108-101 in favor of Taylor, too.
While Chavez was definitely doing damage to Taylor throughout the fight, he was being outlanded in like a 3-1 ratio by Taylor.
Who knows, maybe Pac vs. Chavez would have played out almost exactly like Taylor/Chavez 1, but without the dramatic comeback in round 12.
Repeat of the Margarito fight.
Rios is basically a smaller version of Margarito.
Pacquiao TKO 11, losing about 2 rounds to Rios' activity.
A definite fight of the year candidate, though.
What the hell are you talking about? Did you even read the damn question?
LOL exactly what I had in mind. The only relevance of Mayweather's name being mentioned in my poll/thread is the version of Castillo I had chosen for this matchup.
n
dats it.
Mosley vs. Margarito (I attended the fight as a Mosley fan, so you know I left the arena with a smile on my face lol)
Pac/DLH
JMM/Pac 3. I thought Pac would stop JMM in the mid rounds, losing 2-3 rds. I scored that fight a Draw.
Possibly, who knows.
Or maybe his reflexes are so great (as shown in the ring) that he just naturally reacts to everything in anyway possible in timely fashion.
Or you can say that if he had ADD/ADHD/ADHDADHAHDAHDA, how would he have the focus in his fights to avoid 99.9999% of oncoming punches?
Hard to say, really.
Mayweather's body punching is very underrated.
That jab to the body offsets his opponents most of the time.
Then out of nowhere a straight right is tattooing your chin.
Then out of nowhere a left hook and/or right hook to the body unfolds.
Lately he's been throwing straight rights to the body.
They're sneaky bodyshots.
Both would have laid out more damage against each other.
Fight would have been more of the same, but maybe more of Floyd's punches landing in between or around Cotto's guard.
Gatekeeper.
AKA the Semi-Elite and former Elites.
I'll tell ya what. Even though Oscar De La Hoya lost a handful of his biggest fights, I consider him the greatest gatekeeper of all time.
I don't even think classifying DLH as a gatekeeper is even right. He was a beast.
Unless you call him the Golden Gatekeeper.
