I don't like all this A-side, B-side talk. I do think Floyd's numbers and undefeated record warrant 60-40 but he is not in the position to just dictate terms without a negotiation. It's a super fight for a reason, even casual fans want to see the two of them in the ring TOGETHER. They generate far less money when they fight other opponents. For that reason alone, it is illogical to say that one guy deserves FAR more than the other guy.
Great jab and good defense from southpaw. I am not impressed at all with his left hand though. He's nice defensively but he isn't Whitaker. There will be people who are willing to eat the jab to land their bombs, particularly at the higher weights. Very solid fighter though, I enjoy watching him.
True, He makes a big deal out of cleaning up the sport and starts pointing fingers at other fighters, yet his gym is one of the dirtiest.
The glove thing really bothers me. The blue custom gloves did look a little light on padding. To not let him use stock MX for the first or second fight is ridiculous. Don't some of his fighters use the MX gloves? Cotto wore MX gloves in their fight. I have yet to see him do one thing for the sport that did not personally benefit him.
"Sergio Martinez’s middleweight title defense against Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden generated between 300,000 and 315,000 pay-per-view buys"(http://www.si.com/boxing/2014/06/25/miguel-cotto-sergio-martinez-pay-per-view).
Those numbers suck, plain and simple.
Did you read the article you posted? It says "MICKEY BEY VS. MIGUEL VAZQUEZ HEADLINES AUGUST 30 MAYWEATHER PROMOTIONS CARD". How did you get co-main event of the Mayweather card from that?
Didn't he make like 2 million for the E-Rod Fight? Seems that he should not have any complaints about how much he gets paid, relative to the type of draw he is. At first I thought it was solely about loyalty, but now all of a sudden he is suing for back money? HBO obviously thinks extremely highly of him, and I am sure they would continue to market him and give him fights. I really am at a loss for what he is doing to his career right now.
Truly pathetic on HBO's part. It is absolutely shameless how they hype guys. Joe Louis comparisons? How about comparing him to the man who is own trainer said he is in large part modeled after, Chavez Sr? HBO acts like their a radio network, we can see for ourselves.
Why do you assume someone who criticizes a Haymon fighter is a Golovkin fan? Again with the false equivalencies. I want Golovkin to fight Ward, and in Larrys thread I said right now I would prefer Golovkin to go fight Froch in England.
In another video, he said that he never liked boxing, and still doesn't. He said he was pushed into it by his father and brother.
I think if he faces any adversity in the ring, he will quit. Just my opinion.
Yeah. I understand its a business, but its also a sport. If he doesn't really care about boxing he should probably just keep it to himself.
If you have an opportunity to win a belt without doing much, sure, I understand it. But to be unwilling to fight the best in your division is unacceptable. Canelo had a paper title, but he has fought the best. I don't judge how good people are based on belts, but I am sick of hearing so and so is a 4x champion in 4 divisions. People enjoy when their fighters get the paper, and use it to pump them up, then denigrate fighters they don't like with similar paper belts.
Eh. He is not charismatic whatsoever, Paulie crushed him in the trash talk. However, he does a good job, intentionally or not, of getting people to root against him. Face it, we all can't wait for him to fight a guy with serious KO power again.
Your thread title....... New Era of Boxing: Become a Champion Without Beating One
what champion has GGG defeated to become one?
Your the one who brought GGG into the discussion, not me. I do not like paper belts period. Championship belts are not a big part of the GGG story yet, people like the knockouts. YOU said Broner was a 4x champion in 4 weight divisions, despite most of the belts being paper.
He can retire right now if he wants, no big deal. Probably wants to accumulate enough money to live comfortably for the future. Nothing wrong with that, but he doesn't seem to have that desire and excitement for the sport.
Yep!
Pacquaio never fought Cotto, Clottey, Hatton, Morales, Barrera, Bradley and Marquez.
Cotto never fought Clottey, Margarito, Cotto, Trout, Mosley and Martinez.
Morales never fought Barrera, Junior Jones, Pacquaio, Maidana and Garcia.
Barrera never fought Junior Jones, Hamed, JMM, Pacquaio and Khan.
Canelo never fought Mayweather, Trout and Lara.
Let me see who Berto fought - Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero and he got whooped by both.
You really know your boxing
Right on brother. I hate the false equivalency tactic, it is used in politics all the time. Here we have video of Broner and his trainer saying he wants a 140 belt, yet saying fights with 2 of the champions make zero sense!
I'd love to see the guy go after greatness. but you can never fault a guy for retiring.
Pretty rare to see a guy as good as him, who doesn't really love the sport.
I'm sure a ton of professionals are burned out, and tired with boxing. However, they have a competitive desire to prove themselves that seems to be missing with Mikey.
No, Matthysse was the one that didn't want his belt on the line. That way even if he lost to Lamont Peterson he would still be Danny Garcia's mandatory.
It's very interesting that people want to put the blame on Peterson instead.

I stand corrected, thanks for the link.
What is the point of having a belt if you did not and WILL NOT fight the best in your division? It means NOTHING and should not be used in a conversation justifying how good so and so is.
Holy contradiction Batman
Lol. If your handed a belt, you should take it. However, the goal of any champion should be unification, which is impossible if your not willing to take on 2 of the other champions.
He said 8 figures larry, lets be real. That is bigger than Cotto numbers. Broner could never hope to get those kinds of numbers. How many fights ever there ever been where both fighters have commanded 8 figure paydays?
Canelo barely made it half-way to 8 figures vs floyd. Cotto didn't even make it to 8 figures vs Floyd.
I can't actually think of a fight where both fighters made 8 figure paydays off the top of my head.
So Broner says he will fight Garcia when they will both get 8 figure paydays. That is basically like him saying that he will fight Garcia when they find out where Elvis has been hiding all of these years. Because it will never happen.
Truth. When exactly is the money "right"? Quillin must think hes worth 8 figures to fight GGG. The way to huge paydays is not vs the Salkas of the world. You take on a supposed high risk fight and win it, your stock goes up. If Broner truly believed he could beat Danny he should fight him and raise his profile a notch higher. It shows a real lack of belief in your skills when your asked about fighting a guy and your first answer is "boxing is a business". Certain fans seem to be more concerned with their favorite fighters bank accounts (Haymon would make sure they got a fair deal if they were to fight) then their legacies.
What makes me sick is the treatment of fighters like Matthysse. He brutally knocked out Peterson but the later was able to keep his strap because they fought at 141lb. A belt now is a glorified bargaining chip and means to squeeze other promotional companies out of a division.
That was after he signed with Haymon as well, makes NO sense. Must have been the price of getting the fight, to reassure Peterson that if he loses he is still guaranteed some more big fights. Nobody talks about this though.
I personally do not like this fight at all, and feel it proves nothing. I would like to see him move up in weight and fight Froch in England. I am sure Froch would be willing, and it would be the quickest route to stardom for GGG.
Eh. Now that Chavez-Froch probably isn't happening, I think GGG should travel to England to face Froch. The Rubio's and Geales of the world do not seem to be getting him big fights, why not make a few sacrifices for Froch?
I would love to see them fight now while they are young and up and coming, and hopefully again later, after having successful careers. I really feel this is a win-win situation for both. Unfortunately, the 0 is so coveted it makes tantalizing match ups like this unlikely.
