He took some bombs from some dangerous guys including Lennox and held up. That qualifies him as having a great chin. I'm not sure how many heavies could have taken the shots he took from Lennox.
Neither need advice, just getting that out of the way.
I'd tell Loma to get on Rigo fast, put him on his heels and don't give him time to set traps and think. Overwhelm him with your greater strength and volume punching/combos.
I'd tell Rigo to fight dirty. He's going to have to hurt Loma and give him a reason to step off the gas. I don't think he will have what it takes physically to match up without adding in some dirty work. He can use the occasional dirt to create openings for real punches, get under Loma's skin and get him out of his game. If he can do that, he can start setting traps and doing what he does best.
Brook clowned some GGG punches too. GGG wasn't able to hit him clean enough and often enough to hurt him. Canelo did remove some questions about his chin.
You could defend a 115-113 card for Canelo. I think it is a stretch to give him the fight, but even though GGG had more of an edge and was more consistent, neither fighter really established and retained firm control. Canelo did some good work depending on your style preference.
A blowout scorecard like Byrd's is a travesty though. She has no business judging fights anymore.
GGG is driven to navigate himself to money and fame as a boxer more than most other fighters.
I'm not going to lie, I considered the possibility that he wanted to milk this matchup for another go :lol1:
That being said, unless and until he beats Canelo convincingly in a rematch, it is just a convenient excuse.
That or he never fought a Jacobs or Canelo before
Or both
I think we have to factor in the quality of his last two opponents, but yeah he just doesn't look fresh to me.
Have you watched Rigo's amateur fights? He's crazy good.
I think this fight will be the fight we wanted from Manny/Floyd... Two special fighters that actually go at... unlike Manny and Floyd dancing around each other.... Unlike Manny, Loma isn't going to let Rigo outpoint him...Loma has more to prove at this point in his career than Manny did when he faced Floyd (thus his lax performance and training camp)...
Yeah, I am expecting that similar style. He fought that kind of style against Gary Russell Jr as well. Full on relentless aggression while somehow staying defensively responsible.
It will be a good fight. I would imagine the size advantage might be dangerous for Rigo.
It is called having a good chin.
That combo he took from Jacobs in the 12th without blinking was insane though. If nothing else, he is in the hall of greatest chins of all time.
Loma is pretty entertaining, but I think he will be especially so against Rigo. Anyone watch him as an amateur? I expect to see him going after Rigo full stop. This won't be a staring contest.
Aggression shouldn't win a round if you are being beaten convincingly by other metrics. However, if other metrics are more or less a wash, yeah aggression can carry it.
Canelo was not convincingly beating GGG by any metric. He was more accurate with power punches, but landing about same amount and was being out-jabbed handily. He was not dictating the pace of the fight for most of the fight, and yeah, he was backing up almost entire fight.
kovalev lost two in a row, not even close & lil g has two losses in a row too.....lmao....you guys are in such denial.
Here comes the insecure race fanboys.
GGG won his last two fights more convincingly than Ward won his first against Kovalev. Fact.
The crooked judging in that fight made me ragequit the sport for a few weeks. In my opinion they ruined what was a great show and I couldn't handle it. I've calmed down a lot now and am thinking rationally again. I just cannot believe the ease with which they conspire to screw the winner out in so many contests these days. From small hall shows to the biggest stage. Let's not beat around the bush, Adelaide Byrd was paid off. That wasn't incompetance. This happens all too often.
The Byrd score was ridiculous. I had a similar feeling when I saw Kovalev get stopped by low blows and watch everyone condone it, including the NSAC. Kovalev was partly to blame and he may have been on his way to being stopped, but that is not how I want to see fights end.
There is undoubtedly a genetic component involved in boxing and athletic competition (and life) in general, although it is a touchy subject.
I would sooner attribute the success of a group of people to shared socio-economic and cultural leanings than I would genetics, though. There is significant variation, but not to the absolutist extent we like to imagine.
Well he is confident of course.
I actually do think GGG has psychopathic tendencies, although he is obviously very high-functioning and presents his mask well.
Pirog was an excellent fighter, but stylistically I'm not convinced he beats GGG. I also think Jacobs is a much better fighter now than he was then.
I think Pirog could do some work in today's division in general and would not be outmatched by anyone, but he wouldn't be a destroyer based on that one fight with Jacobs.
Jacobs tends to have lapses and we have seen he can be hurt. There is a good chance that would happen. On the other hand, Canelo will have his hands full if he can't exploit his chin. I could imagine Jacobs pulling off an upset if he can avoid his issue with defensive lapses.
"Safety"
Started out bare knuckle, then gradually moved on to the pillows we see today.
It does help prevent more acute injuries, but there is some conflicting information about whether or not it is actually better for brain trauma.
I actually think it is an interesting topic because the size of gloves, at a certain point, drastically affects the way a fight plays out and the styles that develop around it. It could even have an impact on the success of certain fighters theoretically.
Not hard to prognosticate...
"He was always gonna win."
"Canelo was overrated. He lost to Floyd, doe."
"Canelo is actually a SWW." lol
"Gennady should move up to LHW and fight Ward, otherwise he's an overhyped bum with no skill."
He needs to stop picking on 155 pounders is my bet
