He could well, he has the power. But i think jones takes it in a boreing fight. B-Hop is a great fighter, still! A HOF for sure, but i think the Tarver fight flattered him a lil, Tarver didnt show up.
...because Bernard locked the front door on him.
To say there was a "riot" after Hagler punished Alan Minter is an understatement. The crowd was a racist lynch mob from the start, chanting the obvious slur throughout. After Hagler TKO'd Minter he got to celebrate the undeniable win sprinting out of the ring in a hail of bottles and various foreign objects thrown by the crowd. Hagler would have been lynched with his new middleweight title if he didn't haul ass out of there.
Now, that's not to say this type of thing is limited to England, cause it's not. However, a Mayweather vs. Hatton fight in England presents a situation with all the same variables and opportunity for a mob mentality. As a result, I don't think Floyd has any reason to be excited or happy about a fighting in England.
Regardless of location, one must question if a white boy would be terrified standing in a ring surrounded by 25,000 black guys all chanting "cracker"?
I especially want black posters to sign this thread. Do you ever have to deal with shit like this?
I'm a white boy, just not a racist one, and I take no offense to his comments. So what, he said he would never lose to a white boy. It's Boxing Promotion 101...threatened and offended white boys buy PPV's. Bernard would be made the bad guy regardless. It wasn't too long ago that the best black contenders weren't even given the opportunity to fight the beloved white champs like Dempsey. Black guys are dealing with this shit every day because of threatened white men scared to death of losing their positions of power.
how pathetic is it that a so-called champion punches himself out in two rounds...how dedicated to the sport can you be if you can't even condition yourself properly? He's physically strong, mentally weak, and has limited skills to call upon...the future holds nothing more than a paycheck and an ass whooping for Taylor.
Jermain Taylor didn't even weigh 168 on the unofficial scales on the night of the fight...166 lbs. There are no reasonable excuses for him in this fight. Tell him to hit the yellow brick road and find the Wizard of Oz...he never had nor will have a champions heart. At least he got himself some crumbs from Dibella's and HBO's pie.
Aside from Kellerman, those HBO bullshit artists haven't had a clue of what's going on in the ring since running Roy Jones off. Lampley and Merchant are the FOX news of boxing commentating. You all need to stop buying snake oil and demand better.
Why is Taylor considered to be such an athlete? He is undoubtebly strong and a physical specimen, but I find him to be a bit uncoordinated and clumsy footed.
In my opinion an athlete is someone who naturally possesses universal physical abilities (i.e. Jim Brown, Roy Jones, Bo Jackson...). With coordination, balance, and fluidity being of major importance. Furthermore, an athlete should have the ability to adapt and apply intelligence to the physical tasks at hand (i.e. Bernard Hopkins). Not to mention an athlete should demonstrate consistent growth and progression.
As a pro, Jermaine can't even break the amatuer habit of adjusting his headgear. He's never learned to fight on the inside...simply hits, holds alot, and waits for the ref to break. In the same light, I wouldn't consider Mike Tyson to be an athlete...more of a physical specimen trained in the art of boxing.
On that note, Jermaine is in no mental state to stand up to the offensive onslaught of Pavlik. His only chance is to go for broke early...after the third round he'll be looking for a way out of there. Look for Dibella and HBO to try and cash out on Taylor one last time, especially since HBO can make just as much money, if not more, with Pavlik now. If you ask me, Taylor's gonna be all his own soon and will not be able to handle it.
Taylor is mentally broken for good. He has never represented the Middleweight crown with confidence since winning (officially) the first BHop fight. He won on the cards, but he was beat to shit mentally. I see no passion for the sport of boxing in him and he apparently doesn't even follow the sport...as the previous Middleweight "King", I find that kind of disgraceful. It just shows he's not concerned with history or legacy, which only leaves the money factor.
Plus, he will be losing the support of those who were making money off of him when he was top dog. Now, he's gonna have to depend on himself and I don't think he's able to do that. I don't see him fighting off the wolves when he's thrown into the wild. Boxing seemed to be nothing more than a means to an end, and he's got the big screen t.v. and leather couch he always wanted. If he hasn't been wise with his money, we're in for another rags to riches to rags story.
if you don't appreciate, or at least recognize, Malignaggi's skills and dedication to BOXING (not to be confused with Mortal Kombat or Gladiator Games) please find a new sport to follow. Your diarrehea mouths are embarrassing...hmmm, why does the world think of us (Americans) as ignorant, super-violent, blood thirsty ego-maniacs? You frat boys need to find Tyler Durden and start your club. Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant will be coming with you all. They can provide expert analysis based on the amount of blood spattered on their shirts.
If you love boxing, then you should be in awe of someone like Malignaggi, regardless of punching power. He's winning gun fights and only shows up with two knives. You meat heads don't have to like it, but you damn sure better respect the art of boxing with true technical skills.
Maybe if true boxing skills were promoted and appreciated a little more in the U.S. we could put amatuer boxing back in the mainstream (as well as professional boxing). Instead our amatuer boxing is passed off as a joke and stands no chance of becoming a legitimate youth sport again. I certainly would have liked the opportunity to box for my high school or college. Shit, most guys are driving for hours just to train at a legitimate gym nowadays. Do your part as a fan and respect technical skill and start thinking of boxing more as a martial art rather than the fucking WWF.
As for Malignaggi, the guy is great for boxing whether you like him or not. Of course he's cocky, what boxer isn't? He talks intelligently, promotes fights/boxing respectfully, and throws some flavor in the mix that you either like or hate. And face it, boxing could definitely benefit from a bunch of white teenage girls getting moist with Malignaggi posters on their wall. He's won and earned a title in a more legitimate fashion than most nowadays. You can't say the guy doesn't deserve the opportunity to make money in his dedicated profession. At least he seems to truly love boxing legacy and is fighting for more than just the prospects of a "money mayweather" payday.
Who is anyone to judge or challenge a man's claim to life's struggles? Only a hateful person would attempt to debunk a positive self marketing strategy in America. Especially when self promotion and fight hype is essential on the stage of professional boxing. Exaggerated or not, who gives a shit when this man is able to earn his money while still promoting the rewards of hard work, clean living, and discipline.
What's the worst that can happen...Bernard makes his money and maybe serves as a role model for a truly troubled youth? I guess someone needs to remind him that his marketing campaign should be limited to fur coats, night clubs, tossing cash into crowds, and teaching kids that "if it don't make dollars, then it don't make sense".
Nobody should give shit if some youthful boxing fans are attracted to the "street appeal marketing" of Bernard Hopkins. I enjoy seeing a man make millions, especially when his "street appeal" helps to teach the importance of financial responsibility and inspire troubled boys to become men. I'm more worried about the kids who still believe George Washington wouldn't lie about the cherry tree.
In terms of overall ability and skill there aren't many who compare. Toney is a natural fighter who may be the last of a dying breed. You can't deny the man put in work with the best of his era. Unlike most boxers today, fighting was the man's business...not the other way around. Sadly, his days are done and I don't see him grabbing the HW belt. He deserves crazy respect and is without a doubt an all-time great. It's unfortunate that some may be placed above him because of promotional hype and mainstream attention.
Clottey's knee was hurt from Cotto stepping on him while he was down. After pushing him down from the clinch, Cotto steps back over his foot, twisting his knee.
Cotto sure isn't shy about using desparation tactics...it's strategy to a point, but soon enough you're just acting like Andrew Golota.
Paulie is skilled but his bias for evasive boxers is as ridiculous as George Foreman's is for punchers. These opinions ain't worth a shit. Hatton would absolutely MURDER this metro punk.
Considering that boxing is the man's profession, I place more merit to his opinion of fellow boxers than to that of a self-inflated internet ego. He's the expert and your a fan posting in a forum. Great minds and real men are created from humility and respect, not from arrogance, self entitlement, and a beard.
at least that "guido fuck" gets in the ring to back his shit talking up...you just post on an internet forum. You fanboys are pathetic, take a look at yourselves and try to get out of mom's basement before speaking again.

You got any pictures of yourself fighting in front of thousands, making money? Don't ever forget you're just a fan
and 25,000 fans from the U.S. aren't traveling to see Oscar De La Hoya anywhere. It's not the U.S. culture to rally like that, sad but true. Who wants to pay for the ticket when you can watch it on your fat ass in front of a big screen.
