Jim is a little bit of a douchebag but he has his moments. I'd miss him if he was gone.
One thing that annoys me is right before a reply broadcast he says:
"Lets go back to June 15th to see how I called this great fight with Larry Merchant and Emmanuel Steward"
Yes Jim, I'm only watching this fight to hear your brilliant commentary. In fact I turn off the video and only listen to the audio because it's a distraction while trying to admire your work.
That shit was a fucking RIOT. I remembered hearing that after the fight and cracking up laughing. And Harold Ledermen is the shit as well, he always has a lot of enthusiasm when he's reading his scores. Here's my prediction for the Cotto-Mosley fight:
"Harold, how do you have it through theee?"
"Okay Jim, 29-28, two rounds to one, Shane Mosley. Jim I gotta tell ya I gave Miguel Cotto the first round on aggression alone, but I think Shane Mosley was just trying to feel him out. He's landing clean shots, with great accuracy and power, and I just don't see the fight going anywhere different unless Miguel Cotto can find a way to neutralize it. 29-28, Mosley!'
"I have it two rounds for Mosley, with the first round even."
"Thanks Harold and Larry."
I've always wondered if Jim Lampley or anybody else on the team, after Larry Merchant reads his score would say something alone the lines of "Well, you're not an official score keeper Larry, you're not even our unofficial ringside scorer, so I don't see why your opinion means shit."
I thought that was only me lol. I always wanted someone to say "We don't give a fuck what your scorecard is Larry, keep it to yourself."
Aside from Kellerman, those HBO bullshit artists haven't had a clue of what's going on in the ring since running Roy Jones off. Lampley and Merchant are the FOX news of boxing commentating. You all need to stop buying snake oil and demand better.
"Whitaker clowns around"... "Whitaker playing to the crowd"...
"ZOMG DE LA HOYA WITH AN AMAZING FLURRY!!!111!0eleventyone!111"
Yea, Lampley's ok, but that shit remains a fucking travesty.
I like Jim Lampley, but he is so over the top. Gatti-Baldomir anyone?
"And Arturo Gatti is ruined! Absolutely ruined by a Baldomir left hook! OH MY GOD!"
It does get me excited though
Lampley's okay, but so in HBO's pocket its unreal (look at his commentary on the Wright-Taylor bout)
He's also a major homer who will be most remembered for "we have a new heavyweight champion of the world... and he's an AMERICAN!!!!!"
Howard Cosell and prime Bob Sheridan > Lampley
I agree, I always loved Bob Sheridan. his voice just seems to work perfect for a fight and he always goes from calm to excited and back again. also hes pretty accurate with his calling of fights.
I never cared for Cosell actually. He just never seemed like he fit. 'Thats a pretty good jab there, by Ali...' 'uh oh, that must have hurt!'
I like commentary in general though. sometimes the HBO crew has off nights, but their characters are already so familiar to me because of all the fights theyve braodcasted.
Hahaha, Merchant and Lederman are so easy to predict. Lederman generally gets things ok with his scorecards. and its much easier to discuss fights with others because of him, because you can say things like 'I had the same as Lederman's card, except for the 8th round, and the 5th could have gone either way'
But I find both of them pretty hilarious
If I could get that as a sound byte, I think I would make it my ringtone on my phone. That dude sounds heavenly when he reads those rules... the best part is when he shoots his load giving it back to Jim.
JIM!
hahahaha yeahhhhhhh
the bets is the tale of the tape
OK JIM ! THERE IS NO 3 KNOCKDOWN RULE !!
ONLY! THE REFEREE CAN STOP TREH FIGHT LOL

Haha, that post was great.
What is it with Merchant obsessing about giving out 10-10 rounds. He seriously gives out like 2 or 3 a fight.
You forgot that Lederman loves to call people by their nicknames too.
2 rounds to 1 SUGAR SHANE MOSLEY.
And then you forgot harder before cleaner shots, because according to Lederman, even Paulie Malignaggi lands the harder cleaner shots when he wins a round. Haha.
my favorite part of lederman's role.

JIM!
Harold Lederman is an idiot, straight up.
But he gets so excited, which in turn gets me really giddy.

JIM!
I have the score 105-104 FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. He's landing the cleaner punches, excercising AMAZING RING GENERALSHIP. DEFINATELY winning this fight, EASY!
Uhhh, thanks Harold.
