This guys the future of our sport, yea he was young when he fought Cotto, somewhat inexperienced but believe me since then hes fought 2 tough veterans and literally dominated both, Ndou was beaten worse by Malignaggi than he was by Cotto, after Malignaggi shuts out Ngoudjo i think its time to start hyping a Malignaggi-Cotto rematch at 140 or 147 and also the winner of Mayweather-Hatton.
if you don't appreciate, or at least recognize, Malignaggi's skills and dedication to BOXING (not to be confused with Mortal Kombat or Gladiator Games) please find a new sport to follow. Your diarrehea mouths are embarrassing...hmmm, why does the world think of us (Americans) as ignorant, super-violent, blood thirsty ego-maniacs? You frat boys need to find Tyler Durden and start your club. Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant will be coming with you all. They can provide expert analysis based on the amount of blood spattered on their shirts.
If you love boxing, then you should be in awe of someone like Malignaggi, regardless of punching power. He's winning gun fights and only shows up with two knives. You meat heads don't have to like it, but you damn sure better respect the art of boxing with true technical skills.
Maybe if true boxing skills were promoted and appreciated a little more in the U.S. we could put amatuer boxing back in the mainstream (as well as professional boxing). Instead our amatuer boxing is passed off as a joke and stands no chance of becoming a legitimate youth sport again. I certainly would have liked the opportunity to box for my high school or college. Shit, most guys are driving for hours just to train at a legitimate gym nowadays. Do your part as a fan and respect technical skill and start thinking of boxing more as a martial art rather than the fucking WWF.
As for Malignaggi, the guy is great for boxing whether you like him or not. Of course he's cocky, what boxer isn't? He talks intelligently, promotes fights/boxing respectfully, and throws some flavor in the mix that you either like or hate. And face it, boxing could definitely benefit from a bunch of white teenage girls getting moist with Malignaggi posters on their wall. He's won and earned a title in a more legitimate fashion than most nowadays. You can't say the guy doesn't deserve the opportunity to make money in his dedicated profession. At least he seems to truly love boxing legacy and is fighting for more than just the prospects of a "money mayweather" payday.
paulie is a great fighter... champion for a reason.
Champion no.
Paper title holder yes.
He won the belt that Ndou won over the phone at 2 in the morning.
Once Malignaggi has done even half the things Calzaghe has in the boxing ring I'll have this debate but until then it will be a waste of time.
Fair enough.
Malignaggi is just as good a boxer and he has the best footwork in boxing if you really break it down, id like to hear who you think is better in that regard.

I am sure I have picked you up wrong because from reading your post it sounds as if you are comparing Paulie Malignaggi to Joe Calzaghe and I know that no-one would be stupid enough to do that.

Mag is a smaller Zag the only difference Mag will fight anybody, had he had a Zag mentality he wouldnt have fougth Cotto so early and would probley beat him when they met... The dude can box period he does lack power but he can box and thats the name of the sport boxing!

I understand all of that. I guess the way that I was comparing them was more in the similarities in their styles of fighting. I was too vague in my point and I kinda figured you would bring up those points stated above as a result of that ambiguity. You can't argue that Malignaggi's resume holds no weight to Mayweather's but you also can't argue that stylistically they are very similar in their approach to the sport.
Maybe they are similar but against Cotto I saw Malignaggi get hit more times than Mayweather has in his entire career.
What I am effectively saying is that Mayweather is on a completely different level to Malignaggi. Mayweather has fought and beaten some of the best fighters of his generation. Malignaggi has went in against quality opposition once and while he showed alot of heart he showed little else to suggest that he could compete on that level.

it is time to start talking about paulie he is the best fighter at 140..i go far as even saying boxing wise he is top 5 in any weight class..yes he lacks some power but how often anymore do you see knockouts anyways..most all fights anymore go the distance..you got to except it for what it is paulie is a star in this sport and people are going to have to start to accept that
He hasn't done much yet. From what I have seen Malignaggi's career highlights are:
Battered by Cotto
Beat average fighter to win IBF light-welterweight title
Talked alot of shit
i have no problems with paulie. hes developed a very fan-friendly style, he boxes beautifully and now hes starting to sit more on his punches. i think that he has a perfect future for the 140's for another 5 years and he should focus on that.
paulie could be the MAN if he chooses too and stays @ 140. stay away from the cotto's and hatton's for a good 5 years.
dude's got a ton of personality, can sell fights with the best of them and has a good style.

No offense man, but you gotta offer me a better argument than that. I'm open to criticism and being proved wrong but there is no weight in that statement.

They both have their merits but a Big Mac runs out pretty quickly and doesn't have the real quality you get from a steak.
