And a related question, no dis-respect to the TS, but has it ever occured before that a fight between the p4p #1 and #2 was possible but didn't happen? Maybe Sugar-Moore?
Finding the next Pacman is a chore and no mistake, and the kid obviously ain't it. The title is more a reference to the search than any expectations that he's already been found.
He'd be the best of his era, I consider him that already. But if he doesn't beat Pacquiao, he's got to share the "greatest" honour with him. That's just the way it is. Fight, or share.
So I see a lot of guys listing fights, but what about the specific moments that make these fights memorable? Would anyone be up for organising a top 5 like that?
its quite difficult to pick up a specific moment from the mahyar monshipour vs somsak sithchatchawal fight... you hav to take that fight as a whole... but i know what you mean...
what about JMM going up each of the three times he visited the canvas from the first pacquiao fight?
the entirety of the first round of holt-torres 2?
morales turning southpaw in his 1st outing with MP was awesome as most would agree...
Yeah, you're getting the gist!
my favorite. surely something i'll never forget.
Me too. I've never seen anything like it, it was totally inexplicable. Roy Jones freaked the **** out.
What makes you so sure Wilde is #1? I have Fitz at #1...
1 - Fitzimmons
2 - Wilde
Then you have Lewis, Calzaghe, Ted Kid Lewis, and maybe Hatton. Hatton will be third if he beats Mayweather, that much is clear to me. I'm happy with anyone who rates Calzaghe above Lewis and Lewis, I'd be happy to hear him called p4p #1 post war from Britain if Hatton loses.
Joe Calzaghe is the greatest fighter from the u.k ever.
"Greatest"? If you want to argue he is best because of generational advantages that's fine (though wrong) but "greatest"? How is he greatest than a three weight world champion and one of the hardest punchers of all time?
I don't like how Dawson looks against angles. I think he could win a close decision but I suspect whatever the judges thought my card would show a win for Hopkins.
IS that you pitbull in your avatar? Mean looking pit. My brother has one and the person he bought the pit from has a few and his brother does too. And im surprised how gentle these pitbulls are, definetly have a bad image about them but they are great nice dogs.
No, he ain't mine. I'm in the UK, it's illegal to own them here, although a few people are getting around this now. Basically if someone phones the police you will get the call.
Great dogs.
Your picks are excellent. Here are mine:
1 - Weight-making. To many fighters fighting below their best weight giving less than there best. Fighters arriving in the ring near-exhausted and in danger of brain damage.
2 - To many belts. We need one champion per division, not 2-5.
3 - To much emphasis on name recognition. Kelly Pavlik, unassuming white boy, nobody knew him, didn't look the part, Bob Arums says: "If they hadn't drafted in Pavlik as cannon fodder for Miranda he still wouldn't be on HBO."
There is no right answer here. Liston murdered people with is jab, his was a natural proccess of setting up the next punch - "I only throw my jab to hurt people" is his own telling remark. I also think that Liston's is just as accurate as Larry's, and his astonishing reach makes it a real weapon of choice.
But Larry's was quicker - which I think is an overated attribute in a jab, though it does no harm - but most of all he was quick at withdrawing it and doubling it up. That's a serious serious factor.
I got no problem with Larry dominating the poll - his jab is wonderful. But I think that Liston has an equally strong case.
calzaghe is an incredible fighter, dont get me wrong, but he always says he wants to fight everyone, and then goes out and fights no one. I'll believe it when i see it
I agree. I think he'll end up with Froch.
It's not that Calzaghe is afraid of these guys, just that he insists on getting the big end of the money, the advantage in venue, he's a great champion that doesn't understand that the american's don't give a shit that he's the champion.
Jennings is organised and has good stamina. He will not win this fight. He's a good lad with a tragic past who has been undermatched, generally. His one loss to Young Mutley is disputed.
Ok fighter, nice guy. His level is British Title, but i'm glad he's getting a shot at the big time.
