Holmes jab mentally destroyed his opponents - they knew it was coming and there was nothing they could do to avoid it.
However, neither fighter knocked a guy on his ass with it like Cotto did to Gomez
There is no right answer here. Liston murdered people with is jab, his was a natural proccess of setting up the next punch - "I only throw my jab to hurt people" is his own telling remark. I also think that Liston's is just as accurate as Larry's, and his astonishing reach makes it a real weapon of choice.
But Larry's was quicker - which I think is an overated attribute in a jab, though it does no harm - but most of all he was quick at withdrawing it and doubling it up. That's a serious serious factor.
I got no problem with Larry dominating the poll - his jab is wonderful. But I think that Liston has an equally strong case.
Difficult to say.As Liston's speed declined later in his career his jab became a liability, unlike that of Holmes'.Comparing their jabs at their prime, though,I find it difficult to tell which was better TBH.
Like its been said, Listons was Pure POWER and he could Knock a guy out with it, Larrys was stinging and sharp, id prefer to have Holmes' he could win a fight on that alone, best jab of all time imo
Liston had a big powerful jab. Holmes was perhaps more accurate and less powerful although the often were hurtful. Listons always seemed hurtful to me. Holmes relied more on the jab than Liston as I recall it, but perhaps themanchine finds some great videoevidence to prove me wrong. :lol1:
I find this a very difficult one TBH, but I think the better jab was the one by Larry Holmes.
