I am writing a paper for english, these are the three i have chosen
Poor Judging
Sanctioning bodies (giving false rankings/stripping of titles ect)
and Boxers dodging other boxers
id like your *HONEST* three choices, feel more than free to leave any comments beside each one as it would help me out alot!
1. Quoting Larry Merchant in the Guzman-Soto fight:
"You want a belt? I'll give you a belt. Go to Saxs Fifth Avenue I'll buy you a belt."
2. Don King, Oscar De La Hoya, ie. the promoters.
3. Mismatched mandatories. Anybody remember the one-handed performance by Wlad against Ray Austin?
many reasons
The 3 main reasons for me are:
1)promoters politickings and greed.--- as pacman always said, I am not afraid to fight anybody but ask my promoters!!WHY?Everybody knows why!!.LET BOB ARUM, DON KING ETC RETIRED AND HOPEFULLY BOXING WILL RETURN TO ITS OLD GLORY...THEY HAVE DONE GOOD THINGS IN BOXING BEFORE BUT NOT LATELY..LET THEM BE A CANDIDATE FOR SENATOR OR GOVERNOR IN THEIR RESPECTIVE AREAS.
2)poor judging of referees and scorers --- how many times we can experience bias officiating of referees and one sided scoring..if you are a boxing fan what would you feel? Of course we feel betrayed by these officials whose main job is to protect the integrity of boxing. What disciplinary action do they gave to these erring officials..suspend them, fined them and retired the old referees!!!
3)too many sanctioning bodies --- we must have at least two only like before (WBC AND WBA) so the unification is mandatory except for the intervention again of these promoters...

with the ppv problem, i think only the absolute blockbusters should b put on there not a fight that seems pretty good, i think ppvs should hav a full card of big fights
1. Too many boxing commissions/belts
2. Promoters who fuck up boxing.
3. PPV's costing a fuck load. I wonder how much is really costs for HBO/Showtime to host these events compared to how much everything brought in.
In no order
-Piss poor judging. I have watched several fights with "casual" boxing fans over the years, and all it took to turn alot of them off was one or two terrible, obviously bought off calls. Holyfield v Lewis 1 comes to mind. I think in the general public, most of them assume fights are rigged ahead of time. Clean that up first and foremost. I know as a fan, I hate it when I go into a fight thinking "Man, he had better knock him out or he has no chance." Calla spade a spade and be done with it.
-The best need to fight the best. I know its safer and "smarter" for very good fighters to fight old name fighters over other very good young, prime fighters, but it isnt good for the sport at all. I miss the days when you knew who the best was in each division, and you knew this because the best fought to be the best. Now the sport seems like it is all talk and all about money. That may impress high school kids, but that turns off everyone else.
-One champ per weight. Having 12 paper champs is fuckin retarded (no offense) and insults us all. One title means one champ. THE champ. Not just A champ.
-How about having a big(ish) fight on ABC or NBC in primetime for once? You cant tell me that if you had a big enough fight you couldnt get it to work. Sure you may lose money on not having a big(ish) fight on PPV, but you will bring in more PPV buying fans.
1. Fighters should be more demanding of their promoters. FUCK what he wants..... The fighter and his Manager should make the choices of WHO, WHEN and Where.
2. Too many org's and belts. The only way to cut down on ABC ORG's is to have the fighters deny their belts and rankings (ain't happening).
3. Time and Time again you see corruption or favoritism. example...
I went to see Holt vs Torres 2, on the undercard were about 2 or 3 fighters trained by Freddie Roach. His fighters lost those fights and were given gift wins, now with Top Rank promoting the event, and Roach training the best top rank fighter.... it's kind of hard not to see how officials lean a certain way, especially when these fights are not televised.
4. (BONUS) I HATE, that PPV's don't show the ENTIRE CARD!!!!! Why do we only get 2-4 fights? This is one of the reasons I love buying tickets to the events. You get to see all the prospects and up and comers. Tons of good fights aren't being watched, and that's the promoters fault.
these stupid P4P lists
the two best fighters of the last 10/15 years Jones and Mayweather have both blatently avoided their biggest challenges i know they will try and hide behind excuses but
and the more fans sympathise with politics of the sport then THE best fighter of a particular era will avoid his potentially toughest oponents IMO
Roy 60 /40 i already beat you one time so fucking what you are suposed to be the best fighter in the world make the fight and keep showing us that you are the best fighter in the world that is why you are getting paid more than anyone else not fighting Police men etc
My biggest complaint is the number of belts. Just have one. I don't like the PPV and how the big fights aren't easily accessible. You either need to have HBO or Showtime or dish out a shit load of money to watch PPV. I also don't like some of the scoring.
thats it only shown on hbo/showtime and ppv. if espn had more dedication to boxing or showed championship matches live. and good fights arent replayed enough, if cotto/margarito was aired on espn instead of poker and advertised during the week. i think visibilty and advertisment is main problem
yeah if espn showed more boxing matches insted of poker it will get more exposure
i also think if america had a HW champ people intrest will come back

is to many divisions really a bad thing....it give fighters more chance's for a world title and a different weight class's would be nice for unexposed fighters
i think it is... too many paper champs this way

The three biggest problems?
1: Promoters
2: Promoters
3: Promoters
Exactly, anyone who said fighters ducking other fighters is wrong. I think on the whole most fighters out there want to be the best and fight anyone who's put in front of them, it's the promoters who duck fights.
1. The constant screwing of future talent by putting mediocre matches on the PPV to make the headline look better.
2. The Deathly fear of losing.
3. Promoters behind on the times in the world of PR.
1. Weight variations. When in fight weights can mean fighting a guy effectively in another weight division, what's the point in those weight divisions in the first place. Totally undermined, another un-necessarly variable factor in fights, and dangerous.
2. Too many sanctioning bodies and belts. It's impossible to get a consensus on rankings when there's so much variation from one body to another. There's also far too much politics with so many bodies and belts, which gets in the way of fights being made.
3. Not enough fights per year, and not always the right ones. Even because of politics per above, money issues which could be resolved, and guys being avoided which more kept to mandatories could address.
