i know chad was not 100% impressive the other night but i still think his speed can give hopkins a lot of trouble. If he has sufficient stamina to maintain a high activity level i think he could potentially edge a decision from hopkins.
Having said that if they do fight i would probably pick bernard by close decision.
chads speed and compinations are very fkn good, his weaving and jivin off punches thrown is also to consider i mean tarver thrw from all angels and landed umm not so many ,,,, b hop at his age he stilll brings it to the ring ,, good fight to watch i see bad chad winning spilt decision,, ohh btw ,, when a fighter has in his mind that a punch cant hurt him, it hard to knock him out, it was said that chad had a ? Chin ,, taver hit him with some good ones knock out ones he did not do damage ..
Dawson does have a good workrate but does appear to lose focus on the gameplan and likes to take few rounds off in fights which would favor Hopkins big time. If you give Hopkins oppurtunities to rest you are decreasing your chances of winning. Calzaghe beat Hopkins with non stop pressure and punching. I doubt Dawson could do what Joe did to Hopkins.
Honestly Dawson could do a much better job then Calzaghe did. We are talking about a harder punching southpaw, naturally bigger, taller, stronger and IMO faster as well because i include power with speed. Dawson has the kind of timing jab that Taylor had that troubled Hopkins in their first fight and hes also faster then Hopkins. Hopkins has looked his best against more limited opponents. Dawson is the kind of fighter with more then one way of winning and he posses that Taylor/Calzaghe/Oscar kind of problem because of it. Hopkins just always had problems against fighters that were faster then him.
Dawson let Tarver rest because he knew that Tarver would tire himself out by punching on his gloves. With Hopkins, he would take a more different approach. If he does not let the inside tricks throw him out of his game, then Hopkins will be in big trouble. I could even see this fight ended in a DQ from Hopkins holding too much to avoid punishment. Dawson is too big to try to fight on the inside if you're Hopkins.
You said this just yesterday.

Didn't you originally say this about Kelly?
So what? He was good enough for you then, but not now that Hopkins schooled the piss out of him?
Yeah I did pick Pavlik to beat Hopkins and I was wrong. But you have to remember Dawson is way faster than Pavlik. Dawson wasn't all that spectacular against Tarver, but Tarver fought much better and Dawson still did enough to win convincingly. I'm surprised Dawson was even motivated to fight a good fight. Against Hopkins, Dawson would be much more motivated and fix a lot of his flaws against a crafty veteran. I think this fight is pointless because Hopkins is 44, and Glen Johnson is still available, but boxing is more about money than pride. So we'll see if this fight comes off.
lol at people picking Hopkins to beat Dawson are delusional, Dawson would be the most skilled fighter Hopkins has fought since Calzaghe. Dawson isn't Pavlik or Taylor he's much better than both. With good skills and fundamentals, he will either outwork Hopkins to a UD or pummel to a TKO.
Hopkins doesn't have the workrate or stamina to stop Dawson from throwing.

4 years ago Hopkins would win UD. But at age 43 Pavlik is too much for him, Pavlik will knock him out.

I actually think hopkins would possibly even KO chad. Chad has a shaky chin and like someone else pointed out, he doesn't like angles. He also fades late. He starts nice though, chad would probably win 2 out of the first 4 rounds on activity, nice looking (mostly blocked) combo's. He fights too much in spurts, Bhop would rough him up and catch him with that overhand right over and over. I think chad would fade hard because hops would make it a rough fight for him and eventually hops takes him out.
If not a UD for bhop
Dawson isn't Tarver, he won't be weight drained. I really hope this fight doesn't come off, I'd rather see Dawson/Johnson II though.
I saw Dawson get buckled in the Tarver fight. Can't remember which round, but his knees definitely dipped.
That was round 7 when Lampley claimed Dawson's right legged buckled. I just re watched the fight and Dawson was just trying to get out the way. He did that same thing with Johnson in the third round of their fight. When he got countered by Johnson's right hand followed by the left hook, he dipped low to get out of the way of the following punches. He always does that.

LOL i know what you mean but to say he nearly knocked out Pavlik is kinda exaggerating. He had stiffened Kelly's legs in that second round with the left hookercut, but outside of that Kelly was never close to going down. Also, that fight was at light heavyweight. I seen Tarver land some hard punches on Dawson Saturday and i didn't see him buckle at all. I think he has one of the chins that's shaky when hes not expecting the punch but he can take the ones he sees and with his reflexes and awareness, he could see them coming against Hopkins or elude them.
And while Bernard hurt these fighters, he didn't attempt to go after neither one of them( he did with Tarver momentarily though but then backed off). If he was too catch Dawson with a shot that he didn't see, Dawson would get back up and continue to out work him. :fing02:

exactly the reason it would make it more impressive. BTW, he has underrated power - he knocked down calzaghe and tarver and nearly KO'd pavlik, but pavlik is a tough son of a bitch and has a much better chin than dawson.

Alright. Lets say Hopkins takes on Chad in his next fight at 175lbs. Who would you favor to win, how and why?
chad by decision. hops has trouble with guys that are faster than him.
What fight convinces us that Dawson doesn't like angles, because i have yet to see any indication of that. I seen Dawson play an effective aggressor against slick southpaw's like Gardner and Harding. Granted they are no where near Hopkins in terms of craft and are left handers, but they used angles and made Dawson come at them. When Hopkins has fought younger fighters with a diverse arsenal and true boxing skill in recent years, he has been out worked.
PS: Hopkins stopping Dawson is a good one, i forget the last person he did stop and that was back at middleweight pre Taylor.
What does Hopkins do in a fight w/ Dawson that he did not with Taylor or Calzaghe to get a wide UD as some as you think?
Because some are blind. If they can't see that Dawson is much bigger, much more technically sound then Taylor, faster and punches at least as hard, then there is nothing else to say. Just bet them if this fight was too ever be made. You'll win a lot of points on here.
Agreed.
He looked like a child who had been caught masturbating, when Glenn Johnson was roughing him up.
Against Hopkins, he's liable to break down into tears when 'Nard goes Philly on his ass.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised. He did have the look of a beaten fighter when Glenn did nothing but put some pressure on him and turn up the heat.
