I agree with Fischer
And what really seperates JCC and Whitaker from Floyd and Pacman is that JCC and Whitaker actually fought each other when they were both P4P #1 AND #2 unlike Floyd and Pac.
Easy answer!
Mayweather has never fought a consistent Boxer, i just realized this, now im not talking about a consistent fighter!, like a Ricky Hatton, Jesus Chavez, Castillo, im talking about a consistent Boxer!!!, like a Terry Norris, like a Ray Leonard, fighters who are going to take it to you, fighters who are fast combination punchers who are going to put punches together when you shell up and are going to be consistently aggressive throughout the fight, but whom are fighting out of a Boxing stance, instead of a brawling/unorthodox type of stance, now i know both these fighters are retired, and was bigger in Norris's case, but do you think these type of styles could break Mayweather's style?
Could Mayweather be defensive and get enough done offensively to repel a fighter like that, im not sure he could, i dont think he could be defensive and not let it effect his offense, now i know Mayweather's offense comes from his defense, but how much transition from offense to defense are you going to get against quick combination punchers like this?
I guess Mosley could fall into that category, but Mosley is too old to be as consistent as he was, needs to be.
Zab Judah
Sharmba Mitchell
Emanuel Augustus
Demarcus Corley
Hernandez
Whats f-cked up is the money that HBO Makes!
HBO gets half of the PPV pot before the fighters take their share, so who is really making out big time?!?!? Those fighters deserve every penny that they get. HBO doesnt even take a punch but they get paid to broadcast it so we can see it after we pay for it.....go figure..
Mosley vs Cotto at 154
The natural match should be a tune up for Shane at 154 against a top 154 contender and then go straight to a rematch with Cotto at 154 in Vegas.
The towel is a joke.
Remember, guys... Brother Naazim has never developed a top fighter.
Never.
Neither has Roger Mayweather or Floyd Mayweather Sr., outside of Floyd Jr. Who else has Roger developed into a top fighter?
The reality of it is, Naazim knows how to create gameplans for his fighters to win! Thats the bottom line..
Your using my signature!!
So, to criticize a fighter, that means you yourself must be some top-flight ATG with a sterling resume...right?
Get over yourself. The towel thing is just 24/7's way of giving you newbies something to talk about. The towel doesn't revolutionize training.
I just realized something, you are using my signature as your user name!:damnit: :boxing:
Definitely Ray Robinson
But a younger Shane at lightweight reminded me of James Toney at Middleweight. They share alot of subtle movements , shoulder rolls. I also saw a little bit of Azumah Nelson in Shane Mosley at lightweight.
Floyd wont be standing there flat footed...
Like he is when he is hitting those mitts... LOL He will have to worry about more than just a Shane left hook, he better watch out for the left hook to the body! Shane will hit that body and then Floyds head will fall..
Interesting interview
I believe Shanes biggest mistake was fighting Forrest and Winky Wright. Shane should have fought Trinidad at 154 after Shane beat Oscar. Then he could have given Oscar the eventual rematch at 154 and then rematch Trinidad at 154. Those fights would have given Shane a clear pass to avoid Forrest and Wright. He would have made more money and he would have beat both Oscar and Trinidad TWICE AND STILL UNDEFEATED AT THAT POINT.
I can agree with this topic!
I see it the same way. Mosley can adjust and he will test Floyd to see if Floyd has the ability to adjust. I can see Shane winning this on pure will and just enough fighting ability and skill to win this.
Styles definitely makes fights...
Another thing that I have noticed over the many years of watching boxing is that not only does styles makes fights, but fighters dont change their styles. They just try to perfect their style of boxing. For example, Evander Holyfield has always been a boxer/puncher. He never changed his style of boxing when facing any opponent, he just continued to get better at being a boxer puncher. He never tried to switch styles and become a defensive counter puncher during his career. Floyd Mayweather, is a defensive counter puncher who relies on speed. Floyd would never switch styles to become a boxer/puncher. Shane Mosley is a versitile boxer puncher, I cant imagine Shane ever become a defensive counter puncher. There is only one fighter that is an exception to my rule: Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins started off as a boxer/brawler, as Hopkins progressed through his career, he became more a boxer/puncher as seen in his fight with Trinidad, then to a defensive counterpuncher as seein in his fight with Tarver. Hopkins has definitely changed styles during his career according to his opponents strengths and weakness and he has been great at it.
We all need the money!! Lol
They both need the money and this is why they fight. Amature boxing is a sport, but professional boxing is a business. I like how you answered Lisa Burnside's question about Floyds persona. You are correct when you state
"Lisa, it’s because he has created an image and a personality that he wants to maintain. He’s obsessed with having people think he has money. He wants everyone to think that he is a “baller”. They have a word for this behavior “overcompensation”. He overcompensates for his deep rooted insecurity by acting like he’s a king.
I agree, and you can see it running through Floyds veins.. He is on money hard. He doesnt realize that all money does is bring out who you beleive you really are as a person.
Floyd doesnt fight on the inside
So dont expect for him to fight in the pocket. Floyd has his shoulder defense in which he lays on the ropes and slips punches and comes back with a mean counter right hand. Floyd isnt going to change over night for this fight to fight Shane on the inside. Shane would eat Floyd up on the inside. Floyd will box the way he has always boxed in all of his fights. Floyd doesnt change and thats why I feel that although he is a great defensive boxer, he is a one dimensional great defensive boxer. Floyd doesnt brawl, he doesnt come to knock anybody out, he comes to box the hell out of you without taking punishment AND IT WORKS FOR HIM!! Shane is a more versitile all around great fighter and that will be the difference. I wouldnt advise Floyd to fight in the pocket because it would take Floyd out of his natural element and play right into Shanes hands..
I can see a trilogy
Shane vs Oscar should have been a trilogy, but Shane made a bad decision by not fighting Oscar for a 3rd time. Shane always gives rematches win or lose, you know Shane will always be ready for a rematch. He has fought Oscar twice, Forrest twice, Winky twice, Vargas twice, so if his track record proves anything, it is that win or lose Shane will fight Mayweather 2 or maybe even 3 times. If Shane wins, there is already a guaranteed rematch clause in the contract for Mayweather. If Mayweather wins the second fight, then you have to have a tie breaker 3rd fight. The only way there is no trilogy is if Mayweather wins...He wont ever fight Shane again.. trust me.. He didnt even want to fight Oscar in a rematch for the most money he could have ever made, but he chose to retire..
He is not the greatest Defensive fighter of all time
But I will say that he probably belongs in the top 5 of all time. Sweet Pea will probably go down as the best boxer who knew how to make people miss by avoiding punches. Floyd comes off as being a safety first fighter, much like how Roy Jone was in his prime. Being "safety first" mainly means that they wont risk fighting on the inside for fear of getting hit by something they dont see, which is why both Floyd and Roy never wasted much time learning how to fight on the inside, most of their defense was mainly creating space between themselves and their opponent while useing their handspeed to outpoint their opponents. Sweet Pea on the other hand was a genius at fighting on the inside and being able to slip, counter, lead work off the jab to get inside while also making his opponent miss and makeing them pay. So with saying that Floyd and Roy goes down as to of the greatest safety first fighters but Sweet Pea would have to go down as the greatest Defensive fighter that I have seen. And to be honest, Sweet Pea was a well rounded all around boxer who could do it all offensively. He just didnt have 1 punch knockout out power..
Floyd could be making 40 million when its all said and done
Once all the Pay per views are counted. From another interview that I read of Shane, he said he was getting $15 million guaranteed and a small percentage of the pay per view sales. I always viewed this fight being around a $35-40 million dollar fight. So if Shane is getting $15 mil gauranteed, Im sure Floyd will be geting 20-25 million gauranteed with the large majority share of the pay per view sales.
Yes, styles makes fights and
Shane was robbed in that Cotto fight. Shane landed the more power punches and clearly had Cotto running the championship rounds. Shane was robbed but because he didnt cry about the decision, no one has said anything about the robbery. There is no way Cotto won that fight fighting the way he fought Shane. And I dont want to hear that bs about Cotto outjabbing Shane. Just throwing a jab and backpedaling doesn win a fight when your opponent outlands you in powershots. Cotto got that decision because he was in New York with a Boriqua crowd.
Mosley vs Mosley is for the #1 P4P spot because Shane is the #1 welterweight and Floyd is the #1 P4P fighter. Pacman is the #2 Welterweight and the #2 P4P fighter. If Pacman fights the winner than it will be the #1 welterweight against Pacman who is #2 in both categories.
stop lying!
Yeah because Pacquiao faced the same animal Mosley did. Please dude.
Pacman DID NOT face the same animal Mosley did. Pacman fought Cotto at 145, Shane fought Cotto at the welterweight limit of 147. Get your facts straight. And it does matter because fighters are not the same after they face Mosley. Shane fought a prime Cotto and went 12 chasing Cotto for most of the last 4 rounds. Pacman had leftovers..
James Toney is going to get hurt
Fighting in the Octagon. Once they get him off his feet, the fight will be over. Unless they put him in with a stand up brawler, he will get hurt real fast..
SweetPea Won that fight
Ring Generalship won this fight for Sweetpea. He made Oscar look lost and amatuerish. The Hopkins/Calzaghe fight was kind of similiar. Sweetpea got the early knockdown, Hopkins got the early knockdown against Calzaghe as well, but lost on the scorecards.
Paul Williams gets knocked out by Pavlik
I will go with the naturally bigger fighter in this fight. Williams wouldnt be able to hurt Pavlik. Pavlik has a good set of basic boxing skills and good punching power in both hands, which would be good enough to defeat any fighter coming from Welterweight. Williams is a skilled boxer but he is still easy to hit for my taste and getting hit by a welterweight is nothing like being hit by a BIG Middleweight..
Yes, he has achieved his full potential. He has been a champion in every weight class he has fought in and beat the best boxers in their prime in the divisions. The only old fighter he fought was Genaro Hernandez for the Jr. Lightweight title. Everyone other top fighter he fought, he beat them in their primes (Corrales, Castillo (2x),Judah, Hatton). In terms of skill, Floyd Mayweather is the most completely skilled fighter since the lightweight version of Shane Mosley.
