Williams has not shown diversity. He outworks his opponents plain and simple. The only time he tried something different was in the first Quintana fight and we saw what happened.
i agree the guy is straight up and down as Floyd Mayweather would say
which fights did Williams show diversity in ? he was getting Owned by Quintana 1st time and the 2nd time we did not get to see enough of the fight to judge
Marg is 5ft 11 , Pavlik is 6 ft 2
he was able to get off his combos against Marg and not get hit with counters but as u can see there is a huge disparity in height between Marg and Pavlik ,if Williams stayed on the outiside against Pavlik he would get found with the jab and right hands just like Jermain Taylor

Well, that is probably correct. I don't agree that Williams has no diversity since I have seen him box in two completely different ways depending on his opponent, but I'm not sure he can switch his game around at will.
All my posts in this thread have been predicated on saying "if Williams can take Pavliks shots" and if he can't then he won't win. However, if he could I think he could outpoint Pavlik, because I think he has the style to do so. For me it all comes down to a question of Williams chin vs Pavliks power, like a lot of Pavlik fights.

wanting to fight Pavlik
no this thread is asking the question would Williams beat Pavlik
And the only reason the question is been asked was because of the news that he offered Pavlik the fight.
Pavlik is physically stronger and bigger than Williams he maybe a a natural 160but Pavlik is more like natural 175lbs fighter boiled down to 160
they both have a high workrate both can be tagged easily enough but Pavlik is bigger stronger at that weight and Williams does not have any diversity in his game to negate Pavliks strength and size
Williams is quicker yes but he leaves his chin hanging out a lot he did it against Marg and he did it against Quintana ,Pavlik would knock him out it dont matter how good your chin is if Pavlik hits him square on the chin he is gonna get KTFO ,Pavlik is not a home run hitter but if he hits u on the chin like how Quintana and Marg did he is gonna take u out

Paul Williams is not like any Welterweight we've seen before. He could easily be fighting at 160 right now and dominating.
Fact.
he's not dominating at 147, what makes you think he'll dominate there? williams gets the TREATMENT from the upper echelon of the middle division.
Maybe. I don't believe Margarito dominated the second half of the fight or rocked Williams that badly. I had heard that he did and was looking for it, and remember thinking to myself "that didn't happen". However, I have only watched the fight once and its possible I missed it.
i cant recall him being rocked but he was nailed bang on the chin in the 11/12 rounds more than once and Quintana checked his chin every time he hit him
I don't know about that. He wasn't so elusive that a good deal of the people who watched that fight thought Margarito won. He wasn't so elusive when he was pretty much dominated in the second half of that fight. He wasn't so elusive when Margarito had him rocked in the 11th.......And like you said, Margarito is extremely slow and he was still able to track down Paul.

And would he not therefor have a stylistic advantage over Pavlik? He and Margarito aren't that different, apart from Pavlik being a straighter puncher.

Have you seen the Margarito fight? It was an excellent display of high speed movement. Perhaps I shouldn't have said dancing but fast elusive movement? Certainly.

Williams will lose bad man. Jermaine taylor has way more skills than williams and he is bigger, and pavlik beat him. I really dont think this would even be a contest man.
High Speed? Dancing? Are we talking about the same fighter?

Paul Williams gets knocked out by Pavlik
I will go with the naturally bigger fighter in this fight. Williams wouldnt be able to hurt Pavlik. Pavlik has a good set of basic boxing skills and good punching power in both hands, which would be good enough to defeat any fighter coming from Welterweight. Williams is a skilled boxer but he is still easy to hit for my taste and getting hit by a welterweight is nothing like being hit by a BIG Middleweight..
Willaims aint shit the reason people would give Cotto so much credit for beating Marg is because it is a bad match up for Cotto stylistically and if he was to overcome that it would mean he has even more diversity to adapt to an oponent that most believe has the style to beat him on top of that he would have got by another good WW
Williams beat Marg cause stylistically he had the advantage over Marg
And would he not therefore have a stylistic advantage over Pavlik? He and Margarito aren't that different, apart from Pavlik being a straighter puncher.
What I think gets overlooked about Paul Williams is that he beat Margarito with a completely different style than he did against Quintana. Against Margarito he was dancing around the ring at exceptionally high speed making himself a very difficult prospect for the slow Margarito.
Then, against Quintana he just walked him down and blasted him out with no great movement at all, he tried fighting him the same way first time out too. Obviously it didn't work for him that time, but he came back and beat him with the same style that had failed, so obviously whatever was wrong had been put right.
He isn't perfect, thats for sure, as his defence isn't the best and I agree he isn't the best at switching it up on the fly in the ring, but I am not aware of very many boxers who are capable of boxing in two completely different ways, ways that have obviously been chosen as the best way to beat a particular opponent. I think it bodes well for his future.
If I had a question mark against him it is whether he is good enough at either style to mix it with the very, very best, as that hasn't been answered yet, but I consider him to be one of the guys with the most potential in boxing.

There is no way in hell williams beats pavlik, seriously if you ask me i think pavlik knocks him out in the 5th round. There is alot of hate on here for pavlik but i love him, and right now i dont think there is anybody good enough to beat him.
Because this thread is about him wanting to fight pavlik:ugh:.
