"When fans and boxing writers say Mayweather and Pacquiao are hands down the two best fighters of the last 20-25 years, I roll my eyes. Whitaker and Chavez were in their pound-for-pound primes in the late 1980s and early 1990s if memory serves me right."

Dougie also picked Juan Diaz over Marquez in the rematch. I dunno about this.
But having seen a bit of Jacobs in the undercard of De La Hoya-Forbes and having been thus given a glimpse of what his left can do coupled with my recollection that none of Dmitry's stoppages were authored by a single punch but an accumulation, I tend to lean towards Fischer's pick, i.e., Jacobs. But, a little caveat: Pirog is not your usual Eastern European fighter. He can shuffle those shoes rather well and he has head/upper body movement.Dimtry taught me two lessons today:
1. Do not rely too much on records. It doesn't mean that because he did not have a single punch knock out before, he could never have any;
2. Do not be easily swayed by experts' opinions.:o
Serves me right. :D
Edit: Just in case you didn't notice, Dougie is 0 for 2. Of course this does not have anything to do with his take that is the heading of this thread. Does it?
I can't believe I'm alone in saying Chavez isn't as good as the other three.
We saw what happened when he fought Whitaker, so you can't say he was as good as Sweet Pea.
Floyd has enough similarities where he would do probably the same thing.
Pac has more natural talent, and at this point more skills, and his accomplishments far outweigh Chavez's.
The only advantage Chavez would have against any of these three in a fantasy fight is his chin and body punching, but the speed of these three would kill him, just like Whitaker's did.
I'm not disrespecting how great a fighter Chavez was, but this argument should be Sweet Pea and Roy Jones, who belongs in this conversation before Chavez does.
Whitaker I agree with. JCC was an overrated fighter who got alot of gift decisions and fought alot of cab drivers. He clearly never beat whitaker or taylor, because he was slow and rather prdictable. Everytime he stepped up to the plate he was badly outclassed. JCC is on alot of P4P list above whitaker and thats nonsense. Whitaker is one of the top five boxers all time bar none. Defense unmatched in his prime, southpaw who could fight going backwards and had a great jab with great stamina and a great chin. Hard to beat that even if someone wouldve question his hand speed which was under rated IMO. I would put Jones and Mayweather over JCC AND EVEN HOPKINS. Watch JCC fight over rated.

In a way it is unfair to team Manny with Floyd in this rating. I think Chavez and Whitaker are more accomplished than Mayweather. Pacquiao is up there with them. Why not just do it as individual fighters.
I can't believe some people think pac has a chance with sweet pea. People often confuse the similarities between the two of them.
First Pac and Whitaker both are fast, very fast. However to say that pac would knock out whitaker is complete bollocks.
Pea was a great defensive boxer, who would give angles and would counter constantly just look at what he did to chavez.
Just because Pac is as fast as Pea necessarily mean that it would be enough to knock out Pea.
Chavez was a monster, one of the hardest puncher in the LWW division, yet he couldn't touch Whitaker. Style's make fights, and I believe Pac would be missing all night.
Now Chavez vs. Pac that would've been a war both were hard hitting punchers, of course Pac being the faster one, while Chavez would try to slow him down with his awesome body punching. That fight would be a tossup, since I haven't seen anybody that can hit Pac's body lately. With Pac speed slowing down due to the body punching they would be killing each other to see who was the stronger puncher. But again it is a toss up.
Oh yeah and Pea and JCC are >>> Pac and Floyd (because they didn't duck and didn't impose catchweights) jk chill the fuk out pactards and flomos
Pernell maybe better than PBF but not Pac. Damn it, PBF is bringing Pacs name down and through the gutter, by trying to associate with Pac and his league.
pernell better than pac floyd might be better than sweetpeo though

Like Pac is the same size as Sweat Pea or the same type of defensive fighter.
Triangle theories don't work and we don't know what would happen if he fought JCC but as usual I see most of you don't know much about JCC or aren't old enough to understand.
In his prime JCC was a beast, a straight animal that couldn't be contained. He was so aggressive, yet he was incredibly technical with power, chin, endurance and heart.
Sweat Pea is one of the greatest defensive fighters to ever step into a ring, there's nothing wrong with losing to Pernell Whitaker and JJC wasn't embarrassed by him, he was just beat by him.
I never used triangle theories homey!!I was simply stating that styles make fights!!To say that Floyd or Pacman couldn't compete with them is just crazy!!Pacman came to 147 & destroyed 2 top welterweights & completely outhustled the other!!How well did Chavez handle 147??Please refer to my 1st post before U set out making it seem like I'm discrediting Chavez, thank U!!I simply said he'd beat 1 & lose to the other in my opinion!!
To each his own,I respectfully disagree,Did U see what Sweet Pea's angles did to Chavez, like a deer stuck in headlights!!Well Pacman is also a southpaw, with blazing speed & twice as much power as Sweet Pea!!Chavez gets taken to the cleaners!!Redrum,I like that name, reminds me of............??
