Pacquiao didn't get a concussion from that shot and he looks good and healthy. He's ready to go again.
I agree he was in the best shape I've seen since Dela Hoya in that fight. Going into the 6th and just pounding Marquez' face and with blood pouring out of the nostrils he figured there was 1 or 2 rounds left. Marquez in the meantime admitted that Manny could knock him out at anytime. A desperate Marquez making a desperate move ended up landing the perfect shot as Manny went for the kill. Even though Manny could have eased up and took his time since Marquez was already in trouble with the broken nose and blood pouring out and affecting his breathing. Manny being Manny takes the risk anyways. What can you not love about that?
This ^^^^^^
It was a lucky punch. Pac was beating JMM to pulp. He just became too careless with new found confidence he is tagging JMM bad. Well, just like what Pac said. It is part of the game.
I do honestly believe after watching this fight that Manny Pacquiao could have knocked out Brandon Rios if he'd went in guns blazing. It was risky against a guy with a big punch, but also yes I did notice the mercy thing near the end of the fight. In both the 11th and 12th rounds Manny stopped attacking and seemed like he didn't want to hurt Brandon.
Some may not like stuff like that, but it shows that he genuinely cares about the welfare of others. It goes beyond sportsmanship and shows what a class act he truly is.
Ask Provodnikov. He asked Pac to take it easy on Rios so he can fight him afterwards.
This is who Floyd will be fighting next:
Pacquiao > Bradley > Alexander > Maidana
Floyd is fighting Maidana who is 4th down the food chain. Bwaaa... :?!:
At 35 years of age, when most consider he is on the decline, he not only beats a slick fighter in his prime who is top 3 P4P but dominates him. To beat such a fighter in the way that he does, which is on the offensive and throwing flurries, it is truly an amazing thing to witness. To watch the composed, in control Bradley versus Marquez and compare it to the one Pacquiao mentally and physically beat last night is truly an incredible thing to think about.
When was the last time Floyd faced a slick African American boxer in his prime? And by African American I mean no disrespect, the fact is most African American fighters are VERY crafty and skilled in regards to their movement and speed.
DLH, Hatton, Cotto, Mosley, Guerrero, Canelo (who he made come down 2 pounds / had Pacquiao done the same with Bradley he would've finished him) ... are all stationary targets (most out of their prime) with little upper body / head movement.
Pacquiao has set the standard so high that anything short of a KO/TKO seems like a disappointing. Yet Floyd, fighting lesser opposition, only has to dominate the fight in order to get credit; which is what Pacquiao has been doing for the past few years. And people forget he couldn't stop Clottey or Mosley during his monster run, he just shut them down. It is also to be expected that Floyd is more accurate since he waits for the opportunities to counter where as Pacquiao looks for them due to his offensive oriented style.
I sincerely feel as if Pacquiao is the best fighter from our generation and one of the most impressive fighters of all time. And needless to say, Mayweather is also one of the best from this generation but I honestly feel as if Pacquiao is another type of phenomenon that we all subconsciously hold to a higher standard and with good reason.
Great post!
You just summarized into 1 post all the discussions about Pac and Floyd in BoxingScene, BoxingForum, and all the other boxing forums this is talked about....

Cotto needs to piss on the Filipino flag, imagine the ratings that would get.

But then I realized it wasn't Pac that I couldn't stand, It was his misinformed, annoying, uneducated(boxing wise) fans.
You guys should understand you are dealing with what they call as internet cafe warriors who are probably between 8-13 years old. I'm not kidding you.
Wow, Shogunn, your post was buried for quite sometime and is now uprooted!
I can see nationwide newspapers linking to this site now.
This is definitely unfair advantage to Floyd. Now we know why he want to fight only in Nevada.
Floyd is owned!
Pac did a catch with Cotto and a full with Clottey at welter.
I'm hoping he will do the same at light middle. Pac will do a catch with Margo and a full with Sergio.
Pac's catch weight with Cotto was forgotten after he fought full weight with Clottey. I'm sure he will do the same as Sergio.
That's what happen if you don't throw combo's. They are easy to anticipate. Fuji is twitching his shoulder wide before he throws so they are easy read.
Manny looked like crap last night. He wasn't even that fast. Floyd doesn't even need a tune-up. Easy work. He'll probably land 50 percent of his punches to Pac's 15 percent. I don't see how anyone with any semblance of boxing knowledge could feel confident about Manny's chances after last night. The hype is gone from that match in my opinion.
Pac beating Mosley worst than Floyd with calf cramps from 4th round means Pac will have a field day against Floyd.
No way that Floyd wins. He is one dimensional. He can only beat orthodox and subpar southpaws. Not a great southpaw.
There is a reason why Floyd is avoiding Pac that no Flomos knows about.
Floyd will not be able to hurt Pac.
"Manny is very unpredictable. He has strong shots that I haven't felt before so I have to really watch out and watch what is going on. He is very strong from 6 inches. He can just punch and hurt you." - Mosley 5/7/2010
Here's to a defensive fighter:
"If a bullet misses you by 2 inches, it's just as dangerous as a fly. It only matters if they land." - Nazim Richardson 4/27/11
Nazim trained Shane to be more defensive. As a result, Mosley got busy with his high right guard and forgot about his right hook. He still got knocked down.
There is a reason why Floyd does not want to fight Pac.
Shane, though he didn't throw had no difficulty in blocking Pacquiao's left hooks and alot of stariaghts.
That IS the problem. Shane spent more time blocking shots with Pac left hook and now is hesitant to throw that right because he knows he will get hit.
Shane's right was nullified because of the great distance he has to throw it against a southpaw stance. If he steps any closer, Pacs now powerful right comes in. As a result, Shane just backpedaled the whole fight. He knew he will get dropped again if he decided to engage.
Mosley stood in front of Floyd because he can take his punches. With Pac, as soon as Mosley tasted Pacs power, he backpedaled from then on.
I can see the same happening with Floyd except Floyd runs faster.
Floyd knows he cannot throw that signature right or use pull counter because of the great distance he has to extend it against a southpaw stance.
Pacquiao's only real chance of him beating Mayweather is if Floyd doesn't go too defensive. If Floyd starts going deep into his defense, it'll result in big problems for Manny.
Floyd cannot initiate a good offense because his offense is actually quite limited - pull counter, jumping left hook, countering with his right while shoulder rolling, pot shooting from a distance. That's most about it. And if you look deeper, these are all designed for non-southpaws. He will not have great success with southpaws.
I can see Floyd eating a lot of straights to the body and right hooks to the head from Pac who now became very good at this. Shane tasted the body shot from Pac from Pacs right and his left straight. What did he do? Backpedal. That is the only recourse left. It will not be any different with Floyd.
