no, it hasn't been proven
there are three other factors at heavyweight
and you refused to fight one of them, so..... cool story bro
there are four live heavyweights, soon there will be two
watch this space
So who are these three other factors?
Wilder stepped up to his first decent level opposition around fight number 45. Joshua hasn't even had half those fights yet?
All in perspective.
Froch had the better resume.
Calzhage was more picky when and who to fight, including avoiding Froch who he perceived as a risk long before he was proven.
Darts is a beloved sport in your country. I've seen those tournaments, they're huge over there. Shameful.
Darts are usually held in small arenas and are seen as a great night out for lots of drinking etc. it is by no means one of the major sports here, football (soccer) is miles ahead in that regards. We do have a lot of different sports, even some like snooker and darts which won't be seen as much over in the states. Boxing isn't really one of our biggest sports either. It obviously Joshua has been transforming it in recent years, as has matchroom boxing in general to be honest.
Personally I would prefer Ortiz than fighting Whyte again. But having said that we all know Ortiz adds no marketing value to the fight while Whyte does have big appeal in the U.K.
60-40 is generous from AJ. Wilder wouldn’t make anywhere near that with even fury. So it comes down to whether wilder is really greedy for more money or backs himself.
I want to be a Joshua fan but until you’re willing to fight Fury or Wilder it’s not proven and you don’t get the nod when you’re ducking
Another person who doesn't seem to realize what has actually happened so far or has just distanced themselves from it via media coverage.
Before tonight Joshua has had only 21 fights. He is unified four belt champion of the world. He has fought hall of famer Klitschko who was openly dodged by Wilder, he's fought Whyte, Takam, Parker, Brezeale as well. Povetkin will be the second top3 (boxrec & thering) heavyweight he has fought in a row.
Meanwhile fury has had 27 fights. His 22nd fight against someone called Joey Abbey. Fury at the same point was just about to start stepping up, taking on Chisora, Hammer and then Klitschko in his next three fights. His resume best win after 21 fights is probably Kevin Johnson.
Deontae wilder, well his resume after 21 is even worse and not worth even mentioning names. His 28th fight was Harrison, 33rd Stiverne and his 40th Ortiz! So his step up was not only way way slower but his interim easy fights in between far more in quantity.
So let's get away from dissing Joshua, he has plenty of time in his career and Povetkin isn't exactly an easy interim fight at all.
Let's be realistic here, wilder AND fury were top10 when Joshua was on his debut. He has now far surpassed them to he stage they are claiming being ducked unless they are offered £15mil mininum fights. Reality is, they are jealous of what AJ and matchroom/Eddie Hearn have done.
We all agree the fights need to happen, wilder Joshua in April hopefully - and fury Joshua only once fury is properly back and fit - but AJ has to start taking much easier fights before anyone can criticise what he is doing.
Read earlier about conversation about Joshua going to China during 2019.
Joshua ust another market AJ is look to tap into, I know Americans are a bit upset that the heavyweight world is evolving around uk at the moment and I understand that because history hasn’t always been like that. There is a lot of money to be had in America, hence why Hearn has setup his DAZN deal - but there are many other markets too.
Let me clarify one thing too, calzage, even Lennox Lewis - they all needed a good opponent to make it Ppv. Joshua, well to be quite frank he could probably take joe bloggs off the street and make at least 500k sells! He is way ahead in popularity in the uk alone.
I don't know this guy but it interests me. I would quite like to go to a random country like China and incorporate a holiday into watching Joshua at the same time. It would obviously depend on where and when but I like it!
I think this is all wishful thinking from the guy wanting a pay day after reading into the detail though
povetkin would arguably be wilders best win although theyve done their best to elevate ortiz to being a level above povetkin, based on nothing as usual
I would back povetkin to beat Ortiz. Would like to see that fight, maybe Eddie could get that fight on DAZN?
Wilder doesn’t have an easy fight with Fury. Joshua fans for some reason have to say this. Never listen to armchairs philosophy on boxing.
I’m a fury fan, but I’m being realistic. He is a mile away from competing at that level. I wouldn’t back him against a chisora or Whyte at the moment. He needs to fight some fringe top20 fighters first and aim for a wilder/Joshua after competing properly. His last fight he was dreadful
That's a lie. The fight would have been on Sky Sports as long as they offered the most money. You can't ask for 50 million and then demand that the fight be on a broadcaster regardless of their offer. What if Sky was only offering $1 for the fight? Wilder's side had NO PROBLEM with Sky. They made it clear Sky would be the broadcaster as long as they offered fair market value.
That's a lie. I'm not a fan at all, let alone a fanboy. Yes, Joshua is the A-side, which is why he was able to demand such an insane amount of money. AJ is the cash cow. Which is why Hearn has wanted to delay delay delay on the Wilder fight for as long as possible. Would be idiotic to rush the cash cow in with the most dangerous puncher. Hearn is just doing his job.
Takam, Pulev and Povetkin were mandatories.
Martin, Breazeale and Molina were part of a three fight deal with Haymon.
Parker was given a percentage, something Hearn refused to do with Wilder even though the Wilder fight is much bigger than the Parker fight. Clearly Hearn considers Wilder a bigger risk, and therefore makes a worse offer for a bigger fight.
Klitschko was given a percentage and a rematch clause, something Hearn refused to do with Wilder. Hearn has said the Wilder fight is the biggest fight in UK boxing history, yet won't make an offer that reflects that.
If Hearn really wanted the fight, it would have happened already. The truth is that the fights you listed were the smart business move and fighting Wilder isn't the smart business move yet. When it is, it'll happen.
Your Mia informed on a few parts but key things.
Parker didn’t get a %. He was given a flat fee, they estimated what the % would have been but as sales of Ppv we’re higher than expected he got low end.
Any deal Hearn does will need to be flat fee for a couple of reasons. He already has a deal structured in a specific way with sky & DAZN. He doesn’t have to use DAZN for Joshua but clearly they are a contender and likely to use some of his overall budget but that number could be made up so not in wilders interests to make it a %. Sky could choose to change their deal but to be quite frank Joshua has years on his side. He can take on fury, usyk, Ortiz , wilder, Miller, whyte2 all over next few years in any order really.
Given he has now offered wilder 17.5 mil and he has turned it down then we will see where it goes but if he leaves wilder till later I don’t blame him at all. Wilder is far better placed to win the fight now than he would be in a year or two time in my opinion, because his speed will decrease with age and that is far more important to him - but also Joshua is learning and improving fight by fight.
Wilder has an easy win over fury coming up and his best way to make money will be to back himself to best Joshua and then he hasn’t all the cards going forward to be a huge Ppv Star. Does he trust himself to go do it, well let’s wait and see - we don’t have any evidence (yet) to back that up.
Edit: sorry for some auto corrects in this message
Eddie Hearn mentioned he expects bellew Usyk press conference Monday and I think he said his “big” fight this year on DAZN was being announced end of the week? So will be interesting to see who it Is
AJ asked for 50 million, then turned it down when it was offered with no strings attached. 50 million. No options. No rematch clauses. 50 million, straight up, clean offer, and he turned it down.
Any number Hearn throw out there, you have no idea if it's a clean offer.
50 million based on Joshua breaking his contract with sky sports. No strings attached? I know your a fanboy of wilder but c’mon this is both parties it’s just Joshua is the a side and wilder doesn’t want to play ball.
Klitschko, Parker, Whyte, Brezeale, Takam, Pulev, Molina, Povetkin, Martin - they all managed to do deals no problem. But it must be all Joshua.
I actually like Eddie's shows & feel they are the most competitive shows up & down in the sport at the tip top level of promotion. I think Mayweather Promotions are up there to, but they are a step or three down from the tip top of the sport.
But yea I can see your stance with casual fans. Casual fans aren't gonna become subscribers off of UK cards or a bunch of tip top WBSS guys they've never heard of from other countries. DAZN is gonna need a more impressive American/Latino roster of fighters.
Then again maybe DAZN ultimately doesn't need anyone more than the hardcore boxing fans as I've heard many people say idk. So maybe they don't need to impress the casual boxing fans all that much who knows.
There marketing strategy the DAZN guy talked about was all about hardcore fans only at this stage. Reality is casual fans are unlikely anyway I would guess until there sport range is more broader?
Whats the leading rumor for this BIG Nov. 17 DAZN card?
HE didn’t say, by has previously mentioned that date. He said hey were holding off to ensure they didn’t clash with wilder fury previously but that sounds more likely December now anyway.
He could also announce chisora Whyte on dec22nd; which won’t be the big fight in America but well worth watching - chisora and Whyte fights are both usually epic and there last one was unreal
He isn’t overlooked, just everybody knows he isn’t ready yet. So if he fights wilder he will lose and therefore any immediate Joshua conversation is pointless
Interesting when asked who he needs to fight to be content he has done everything Joshua’s response was ..
“Wilder, Fury, Whyte two and Ortiz. Who else is there?”
I am from uk so obviously didn’t see most of it on DAZN. I have watched some clips of Ak and some other dude though and quite like their laid back approach. There style and hats I thought was quite quirky! Really making sure they didn’t look like brits! 🤣
I thought Ortiz was asked and confirmed he lost in amateur to povetkin in build up to wilder fight?
But in all seriousness, it’s the same comparison to sparring - you can’t take all stories and assume a pro match has same outcome.
My stream was very bad. could be my connection. Crystal clear video, but so much lagging and delay. Could be my connection, but I've got Xfinity from Comcast....? Maybe next time I'll move a little closer to the router.
The obvious thing is to test using the app with any of the content they have available now and check that works fine before the next live stream?
Well let’s just hope the first fighting isn’t boring as fck!
Will be interesting how many tune in to be honest, fury always has boring as fck fights so unless undercard is strong I doubt I’ll be watching it myself live. (Plus I like my sleep!)
