Very true. There is a ton of good info on Wikipedia, but you gotta remember its regular cats filling in all that info & regular cats are gonna make mistakes from time to time.
Its built into the very fabric of open source infomation systems. And let me just say this: As a youngster with a hatred for school, who used to read stuff way over my head...If Wiki had been around when I was growing up!!!? Lets just say between lube and Olivie Neuton John posters and Wiki...YOu would have never found me! :beerchug:
The weakness is the strenght, nobody has the privalege, of saying "the state gave me a college degree" or whatever...it is anonymous, but the chain has to be such that it is corrected, debated, if necessary etc. Great idea and such a rich source for finding out that grey area between the type of stuff you read in Russian Boxers for Dummies, which for some people is common sense level, and "an exgesis on Russian Pugalism deconstructing fighters with a P in their name."
whatver man, i know what ive read and seen, povetkin beat him aswell.
Drama
Don't you think you could find the fight if it happened? These things were filmed. If i am objective here, then when I see this fight it occurs to me that it could very easily be a case of mistaken identity. So there is even a reason why people thought it was Povatkin...of course the minute this guy starts fighting it becomes obvious he is not Povatkin... But people don't look at things carefully these days.
From what I know, Ortiz never fought at the level that many better cuban fighters did who would have faced Povatkin. its scary how good some of the Cuban ammys were!
It was on Ortiz his Wiki page...i cant find footage of it but i thought it was a known fact that Povetkin beat Ortiz in the ams.
I love Wiki and donate to it...So take this with some sense of objectivity. Because it is open source it is entirely possible that someone assumed this fight was Povatkin and has not been corrected.
I thought Ortiz was asked and confirmed he lost in amateur to povetkin in build up to wilder fight?
But in all seriousness, it’s the same comparison to sparring - you can’t take all stories and assume a pro match has same outcome.
Has 0 to do with Wilder...just dont run with lies..do your own research and post facts
Of course it's about Wilder, it's one of your threads isn't it? :moon:
Let this be a lesson to you all. Never try to diss Wilder's only decent win again! :usa2:

you havent seen anything..because it never happened...you read lies and ran with the lies
you just cant accept defeat..just turn around and walk away like GGG did man.
and the case isnt closed just cause someone called povernev whooped him doesnt mean povetkin didnt aswell. theres people out there who are very sure its two seperate fighters
I deal with facts, the fight ya'll described was posted, there was no Povetkin fight..you were wrong
well it just got proven false
lol
i dont like lies
lol, truth will always show
For real. I’ve not only seen it online but even heard some cubans out here in fl saying it happened. Inceptioned me with lies!
I blame Trump tbh
why are you so concerned anyway, what would u think would happen if they fought then? povetkin was an olympic gold medalist and that video shows ortiz literally gtting dropped and seriously outclassed when he fought in his only major tournament. i know you love your facts and evidence, so lets make this real clear for you and others, there is no evidence whatsoever of ortiz being a top amateur or a top prowell it just got proven false
I got it here actually, but on betamax tape. It's half taped over with my homemade P00rn but that just adds to the climatic finish. Wait till you see the money shot. Wait or was it Povetkins right hand on Ortiz? I cannot remember.
lol
See what you done now Larry? I think even Ortiz would have preferred that people thought it was Povetkin instead of this guy.
i dont like lies
I want to knowlol this too because I recently mentioned it and honestly...I dont remember anymore if it happened or Ive seen it or just went by what I’ve heard. I honestly dont know anymore . I tried to look it up to help ya out and zero. Cant find anything.
Edit: Jesus..forgot to send while at work and see all the responses now.
Good s hit guys. I’m out here spreading inadvertent lies but lies nonetheless.
lol, truth will always show

I suspect it might be about Ortiz "Lost to Alexander Povernov (Germany) RSC-OS 3" at the 2005 World Championships & mfers are just confused.
http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Luis_Ortiz_(of_Cuba)
Here's the fight.
There's a lot of dumb ass boxing fans out there that get easily confused.
I guess this kills the rumour it was Povetkin. Case closed.
Why would they be talking about it in 2015 if it didnt really happen ? Also weird how the details of the fight between Povetkin and Ortiz always are the same with these people talking about it. Why do you need definitive proof...Ask Ortiz or Povetkin online if you want to be sure. This is not some kind of crime scene, lots of amateur fights get lost with only the fighters and some fans still knowing about it. Remember that Ortiz really wasnt that big of an amateur name.
Just dont see how people run with something because a random person says it then acts like it should be accepted as a fact
Ortiz and Povetkin haven't met as far as I know. A lower level guy with a similar name, Alexander Povernov, beat Ortiz in the amateurs. And Povernov's nowhere near Povetkin's level. To put things into perspective, he lost not only to Kubrat Pulev, who was an average amateur but also to his little brother Tervel Pulev...
