What is the consensus re DAZN? Here are my reactions:
TECHNICAL: Spotty at times. I and a couple friends experienced some buffering, lagginG and stuttering. My ESPN+ and Showtime streams are much more stable. GRADE: B=
ANNOUNCERS: Mora and Mannix are solid. SRL, as usual, is terrible. Master of the obvious, adds nothing. But the worst part was Brian Kenny. He doesn't call any of the action. It's almost like the fight is an afterthought to whatever conversation he is having at the time. It was so bad that it even made me miss Mauro Ranallo. And the two roving reporters AK and somebody are amateurs who belong on a Golden Boy Fight Club stream, not a major heavyweight title fight. GRADE: C-
PRODUCTION: Sky Sports produced the telecast, not DAZN, so the jury is still out. GRADE: INCOMPLETE
PREFIGHT CONTENT/SHOULDER PROGRAMMING: Non-existent. Hardly saw anything featuring AJ or Povetkin, let alone the undercard. But I did see a bunch of stupid cheesy promos about how no one can pronounce DAZN. How about taking that money and spending it on something that features the fighters rather than some corny, unfunny promos? GRADE: F.
MARKETING/BUZZ: The event seemed to have zero buzz here in the U.S. Only the hardest core boxing fans were aware of it, and that was because of AJ, not DAZN. No awareness among casuals or even mid-level boxing fans. Didn't see any marketing or promotion from DAZN. No ads or marketing on ESPN, during college football or NFL. The biggest push seemed to come from AJ's own social media. GRADE: D+
Overall grade: C/C-. Given that the upcoming DAZN schedule has a lot of meaningless, who cares type fights (Jessie Vargas, Miller vs washed up Adamek, second-tier WBSS cruiserweights, etc.), I don't think I'll be sticking around to pay for the subscription - at least not unless DAZN finally sgns some true top-tier American or Hispanic fighters.

I agree i like Sergio mora way more than malignaggi. I just meant he's the next boxer to actually make it a real career how malignaggi did with showtime.
:beerchug:
Me and my pops are big SRL fans. I see a lot of peeps today hate on him as a commentator. Why? tho? I thought he's a credible person to speak on the sport obviously.
I'm a huge SRL fan, and he certainly has the credibility to speak on the sport. It's just that if you saw the telecast yesterday, it was clear that something was off with him.
He added really no analysis to the boxing that was taking place. He was saying things that just didn't match with what was happening in the ring. He also was struggling at times to get words and phrases out. It's sad but true.
Paulie wishes he was that good. Paulie is a good analyst, but he takes himself way too seriously. He's always trying to trump what Al Bernstein is saying.
Sergio, on the other hand, gave solid analysis, yet at the same time allows the others in the booth to shine.

Sergio mora beasted at commentary. I mean he understood what was going on in the ring more than Leonard. Man DAZN needs to hold on to him. He's the next paulie malignaggi in the commentating game!

Well to me $125M a year warrants attracting casual fans, but if these cats talking about elevator deals with the money or w/e that sh^t is about & they aren't actually giving Hearn $125M a year yet then yea hardcores is all they would likely need to go for currently.
But eventually if they get to spending $125M a year on boxing my assumption would be boxing will need to be bringing in $125M+ in value to the DAZN product & I don't see how you get to that number w/o a nice segment of casuals.
Lotsa speculation at this early point doe & I'm sure DAZN gots a lot of what if's positive & negative that will be considered in the future as or if needed. The way they seem to be attacking the sports world in various countries suggest to me they got their i's dotted & their t's crossed & a plan A thru Z covered.
I would expect that the revenue from other countries also takes part in the calculations.
Those dazn boxing cards are probably also shown on dazn germany, canada, austria and japan.
To cover the 125 mio budget, they dont have to completely rely on the us market.
My stream was very bad. could be my connection. Crystal clear video, but so much lagging and delay. Could be my connection, but I've got Xfinity from Comcast....? Maybe next time I'll move a little closer to the router.
The obvious thing is to test using the app with any of the content they have available now and check that works fine before the next live stream?
With 125 mill a year they need to attract a lot of casuals. If only hardcore fans get this they will be losing 9 figures a year.
Don't forget this isn't just a usa thing. They also attract viewers in other countries aswell who have DAZN as part of the same deal. However there strategy was for the first couple of years to aim at hardcore only. That's what they were telling everyone at launch anyway

Well w/e the big date is is there rumors or whispers? Or is it Whyte vs Del Boy? I was excited for these big PPV-like DAZN cards that they were talking about, but with his roster I'm super curious what he can do for this first one thats gonna move the needle much.
the roster is garbage. I'll likely just keep renewing my annual subscription for WBSS season 3 haha
Fans need more of these DAZNs.
Anything that would make fighters active.
Not these PBC types that introduced this one-fight-a-year crap.
How many years do you need to promote and protect fighters like the Charlos?
It's terrible.
Yes love the commentating. That was the 1st thing I noticed. No bias dick sucking telling everything like it is. SRL just needs to start talking lol. The man said like 20 words through out the broadcast.
DAZN is good for boxing. You can't fit everything onto showtime/fox. You can never have enough boxing.
Hopefully people support it.
...at one point, one of the commentators called AJ a greek god
I had some buffering issues, nothing really bad. Especially for an app on it's launch. The app completely froze up right before the main event to the point I had to restart my PS4, but after that it was fine. No complaints over here.

Idk what I'm doing on my end, but it was an unbearable watch for me so I went to an illegal stream early on & that was fine which is sorta hilarious to me, legal stream = piece of sh^t, illegal stream = smooth as a baby's ass. These legal streams need to be taking notes as to what the illegal streams are doing right maybe idk.
Thought it was fine as a production otherwise. I mean I expect some kinks & lol at the Ray "Master of the Obvious" Leonard opinion. I don't disagree much. I don't think he adds much except his name. Mora runs laps around him as a productive member of the commentary team.
And I thought I seen some shoulder programming among the boxing sh^t, but I didn't watch it so it coulda all been mfers mispronouncing DAZN.
Hmmm???? I wonder what you were using to watch the DAZN app?
I watched some of the undercard on my cell phone and had no problems, went to a friend's house and watched the main event on his Fire Stick and it was perfect, also had a buddy that used chromecast and it worked perfect for him too. Sorry you had trouble bro. On what device or what platform were you trying to watch it on?
Whats the leading rumor for this BIG Nov. 17 DAZN card?
HE didn’t say, by has previously mentioned that date. He said hey were holding off to ensure they didn’t clash with wilder fury previously but that sounds more likely December now anyway.
He could also announce chisora Whyte on dec22nd; which won’t be the big fight in America but well worth watching - chisora and Whyte fights are both usually epic and there last one was unreal
Here in Europe we get Canelo GGG, Joshua Povetkin, McGregor vs Khabib, and basically every major fight included in the 9.99 a month, the app for my LG TV is crappy though.
Being a celebrity and/or people on tv doesn't automatically qualify you as smart, dumbass. Check mate :afro::dunce:.
OP was pretty much saying DAZN doesn't have any decent fights they can make from their stable. Eddie Hearn was supposedly gonna sign some stars from America but hasn't yet. OP would pay for app if Eddie actually signed some top American or Hispanic fighters like he said he would. Bigotry doe :afro::rofl:
Okay, celebrities are soooo stupid that out of billions of people on earth, THEY get to be on TV and not moronic plebs like you. If you were so smart, maybe you'd be on TV too? You are a failure. A failure to your father. A failure to your mother and most importantly, a failure to me. Go fist urself too, MATE!
Check mate
