and i want floyd vs cotto 2..i think we can both get what we want
If Floyd fights Manny first and wins then fights Cotto he will get credit for the Cottto win. If he fights Cotto again without fighting Manny he will continue to be known as a ducker.
As bad as you Floydiots deny it, 99% of the boxing world wants Manny-Floyd. Problem is Floyd is in the 1%, and *****s try to back him.
How does boxing work in lines with the Ali act?
Does a manager need a license the same way a promoter needs a license? Is Al Haymon a manager or strictly an adviser?
If he's been getting away with skirting the law and playing a role in both the promotion and management, would this clause in the contract prove he holds more than an advisers role?
I'm just guessing here, but if he's not licensed, his contracts would be private, and unless someone was disgruntled and went to an authority, there would be no way to investigate.
His half brother, Bruce Buffer, who I thought was his son, always struggles to sound like him. Of course he growls, unlike Michael's effortless booming sound. The Buffer name was certainly used in this case. There are more deserving ones that could take Bruce's place.
Michael is def better than Bruce. They didn't meet until they were adults but Bruce is the one responsible for Michael copyrighting "let's get ready to rumble."
When was the last time he trash talked anyone? Mosley?
He's trash talked Manny hard over the years.
"Still asleep"
"Marquez's leftovers"
"Beggin dog"
"He's desperate and broke"
"Pac pellets"
"Take the test" T-shirts
"Poochioau"
"Not on my level"
He only shut up when they were in person cause he knows Manny wants to f him up.
Floyd knows he's gonna take a beating, and he doesn't know if his hands can hold up enough to stop Manny.
0% chance it happens on the undercard when it benefits Haymon significantly more for the two to fight on an PBC card.
I would think this would be a great move to showcase two possible NBC or any other of the channel they're buying time on. If AB and Khan put on a good show they are both going to be bigger draws on TV. It would be stupid to not showcase some possible TV/PPV stars on the biggest stage possible. Only one shot at a fight this big but I'd give it 7%.
They are brothers...
Imo they should have just had a couple sparring expos
and youtubed it. Or flat out had a sparring expo in russia or germany for 4 rds. put a good card together
i know i wouldnt want my sons going all out like that for your pleasure for 12 rds no headgear
I get why and am cool with them not fighting. It doesn't change that the two best heavyweights in the world wouldn't be fighting for years. You can't help but lose interest.
Then throw in that the biggest stars could fight but wouldn't for all kinds of reasons, many of which were cringe worthy.
Boxing couldn't handle the best champs in two divisions not fighting the number 2 guy and the best guys not putting on much of a show to boot. Lots of fans went away, and not many new guys have shown up.
Boxing has declined because the best aren't fighting the best.
You know why people are talking about it again? Because the best is fighting the best.
Whenever you have the two highest level competitors, facing off against each other, in any sport, there will always be drama. That's what people want to see- the highest level of competition humanly possible.
Thats why the NBA Finals are what they are, The World Series, The Super Bowl, The World Cup, The Grand Prix.
When Mayweather Took over the reigns after the De La Hoya fight and started cherrypicking his fights and faking retirements, that's when the decline began. Boxing was on life support until Pacquiao came on the scene and started taking out names like De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Mosley and Margarito, but as long as the best was out there and he wasn't fighting him, it wasn't enough.
Pretty much this. It also didn't help when the two best heavyweights, the Klitchko's, flat out said they wouldn't fight, and put on a bunch of boring matches.
Charlize Theron, Joel Edegerton, The Rock, Timberlake, Walhberg was there at the last Rousey fight. A few other celebs have been there.
You can try to deny the popularity of ufc over boxing these days but go lookup how many torrents are downloaded of the ufc. Its very easy to find multiple copies of every event. After that, do a search for boxing.
I'm not trying to downplay the UFC's popularity. I could give a f**k to be honest. I'm not a hater and them thriving or failing or what the f**k ever really means zilch to me.
But it seems to me that UFC fans go out of their way to badmouth boxing. Why? It reminds me of mother**king PlayStation & Xbox fan boys. Every single time I've brought up boxing to a UFC guy (and in this case I didn't even bring it up), the UFC guy immediately goes on the attack on the sport of boxing.
I didn't mean you specifically. It was more of a you in general.
That's what I said. Stoppage made no sense. Obviously if he looked wobbly after an 8 count or couldn't walk towards the ref, then fine, stop it. But to just stop it instantly like that defeats the purpose of them explicitly stating that there is NO 3 knockdown rule, let alone a 2 knockdown rule. It's always something. If it's not a bad ref it's bad judges. #boxing
He did look wobbly. He staggered getting up, and was a little slow responding to come forward and gloves up. It might have helped his case if he dodged a punch before getting dropped again.
I'm far from a Haymon fan, but there was nothing wrong with that stoppage. Lopez was slow to stand up, slow to walk forward, slow to put up his gloves and got dropped on the very next punch. Good stoppage.
The GYM/ Interbox HBO fights are always PPV in Canada. It sucks.
What I want to know is, who will air Showtime fights now that SuperChannel didn't renew?
Deontay Wilder fight was aired free on TSN. Can't remember if it was regular TSN or something like TSN3. It was live tho.
Of course he is NOT but i speak from a FANS PROSPECTIVE and not a BOXERS PROSPECTIVE!
From a Boxers prospective if you gave your entire life to this sport...why the FUK would your goal be to settle for #2 or #3? That is what separate Good From Great IMO, some athletes have that drive to get to the very top while most are OK with being #2 or #3. It is hard to achieve greatness with that "Accepting Not Being The Best Mentality"
His ERA did not have enough talent for me to consider him "Better Than Ali". A Win over Pacquiao does NOTHING for his legacy IMO, maybe solidify him as Top 20 all time I guess? :dunno:
His ERA did not produce enough talent for him to compete against which is not his fault but that is what happened. I struggle to put Mayweather up with or ahead of Ray Leonard to be honest because again Ray was in a ERA that had a lot of talent in and around his Division and he fought them.
Even with the fighters who Mayweather is accused of Ducking, neither of them turned out to be All Time Greats or anything to remember so not even fighting and beating them would have helped.
Perspective. The word you're trying to use is perspective.
It's not a sign of immaturity. It's a sign of confidence to the point of being cocky about it.
There's not a single problem in the world with him saying that he's the best. None whatsoever.
There is a problem when one of your arguments is that Ali only fought in one weight class. The problem is that you sound like an idiot.
Pac is going to be remembered in a better light because you can rewatch most of his fights and be entertained. Kinda hard to call Floyd an entertaining fighter.
Whats the most entertaining thing Floyd does in the ring? His pull back right counter that he stings people with?
If Floyd doesn't fight Manny, he won't get much work commentating, Mayweather promotions won't be worth sh*t, and a simple video of common opponents will make Floyd look even worse, even with the Marquez KO (huge dif between flash KO and an ass whoopin).
I disagree. Lopez took the full 8, 9 seconds to gather himself which is fine. He put his gloves up right away when the ref requested.
He was obviously still hurt when he got knocked down again. But he should've gotten a count.
Guys use the full 8-9 seconds to compose them self but the don't usually stagger while getting up, or the last second or two while standing. He didn't look sharp walking forward or raising his gloves. He looked even worse when the next punch dropped him like nothing. Maybe he was just going down to compose himself for another 8 seconds..
Lol are you retarded? I'm not debating the end, lopez was done. But you're disregarding people's opinion on the issue, based on visual evidence, by referencing that 90% of the world, with no visual evidence, thought the world was flat. Put the beer down lightweight. You're too stupid to even realize how stupid what your saying is.
I think you're the one having trouble. His comment was basically taking a crack at someone who told me I can have an opinion but I'm wrong because 90% of the people on here say it was a bad stoppage.
Hilarious how people on forums have to pick apart things not really pertaining to posts, just to feel like they got one over on someone.
yea lopez got up right away.. ref should assess a couple of factors before making a call like that... look into the eyes of the fighter, their body language, the way they react.
The fact he got up immediately...should have warranted a count.
But sadly, once he went down, the ref made his call.. :lame:
I think the ref did exactly that. Lopez was kinda slow getting up on the first one. He was shaky getting up, slow to walk forward, slow to raise his gloves, then got dropped on the next punch.
What you said doesn't make sense. you are judging the quality of the fight before it happens, based on the fact both are not defending their titles. Was Ward/ Gatti 1 for a title? If both guys didn't defend their titles, would that have made it any worse.
Yes, no belts on the line makes the fight less significant. But if you get a FOTY candidate fight, does the belts not being on the line make a difference?
So what happens if it's FOTY? Do they do it for real the next time?
Respectfully, you are avoiding the point I made.
I am with you on the lack of significance of this fight since its above 140 and no titles are on the line. But that doesn't determine how the fight will play out or how good it will be.
I'm sure you will watch canelo/Kirkland at 155 even though that fight has no significance either.
If the fight is good, i'll be glad i watched, but it still won't change that someone will still be champion after losing. It also sucks knowing that both will probably be used to headline a future event as champion.
Canelo Kirkland catchweight doesn't mean much cause there is no belt to fight over anyway.
If you really think this has a chance to turn into Gatti-Ward you're out of you mind. Both of those guys were known as crowd pleasing warriors. Can you say the same of Garcia-Peterson.
Tell me what champions fight for when they don't have to defend the belt and they are fighting a champion with a belt they can't win.
I was legit excited for this fight( tho i questioned why neither took their belt to the fight presser) til I found out it wasn't for the belts.
I wanna see fights.
Its not my legacy.
Take away the titles and its still a good fight
It would be a good fight if they could take away each other's title. Non-title fights between champions is Saturday Morning wrestling nonsense.
Seriously how excited can you get when a unification match is turned into an exhibition match that isn't much more then some kind of infomercial?
4 fights this year? Gonna be tough to get those in if he doesn't even have one announced yet.
Is this a case of AB bull****ting or a case of Haymon bull****ting AB about fights?
I would like to know more about the guy who Floyd gave 15 million to because he said he could make Floyd billions. Floyd got conned by some fool for 15 million.
True....But Floyd would be a fool not to go for the lineal MW title....I want the Manny fight but if the networks are the cause of the fight not happening then what can they do?
Yep, but the fight with Cotto would make a lot more money after Floyd fought Manny. Cotto would prob still do OK this May but if Floyd doesn't fight Manny there is going to be major backlash and people will refuse to pay for this fight, not to mention Mayweather Promotions won't be worth **** in the future if Floyd ducks Manny this time.
