They were discussing the 24 year old linebacker who retired from the NFL for health reasons. He was stating how the NFL is headed towards the way of Boxing and that kids are going to stop participating in American football. He says Boxing has five big nights a year and that it has declined in popularity because of the health concerns.
I think it is amazing when American sports journalists declare Boxing not popular and does not have much of a following. When you look at the success of the sport of Boxing in Latin America, Europe and certain parts of Asia that is an untrue statement. The two highest paid athletes in the world are boxers. It is not my opinion but if you look at Boxing on a global scale American football and hockey do not have even close to the following Boxing has. I also agree with his statement completely about what he is stating about the state of the sport in the United States.
Boxing has declined because the best aren't fighting the best.
You know why people are talking about it again? Because the best is fighting the best.
Whenever you have the two highest level competitors, facing off against each other, in any sport, there will always be drama. That's what people want to see- the highest level of competition humanly possible.
Thats why the NBA Finals are what they are, The World Series, The Super Bowl, The World Cup, The Grand Prix.
When Mayweather Took over the reigns after the De La Hoya fight and started cherrypicking his fights and faking retirements, that's when the decline began. Boxing was on life support until Pacquiao came on the scene and started taking out names like De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Mosley and Margarito, but as long as the best was out there and he wasn't fighting him, it wasn't enough.
That is got damn lie. Boxing declined when the heavyweights went to the trash heap.
How Floyd cherry picking when he fought De la Hoya, Hatton and Mosley before Manny did?
I get it when Floyd became the top draw he didn't go all out to do his part to help bring new people to the sport. Floyd actually alienated more people because most looked at his publicity as negative.
There is never a need to spout lies to get your point across.
They are brothers...
Imo they should have just had a couple sparring expos
and youtubed it. Or flat out had a sparring expo in russia or germany for 4 rds. put a good card together
i know i wouldnt want my sons going all out like that for your pleasure for 12 rds no headgear
I get why and am cool with them not fighting. It doesn't change that the two best heavyweights in the world wouldn't be fighting for years. You can't help but lose interest.
Then throw in that the biggest stars could fight but wouldn't for all kinds of reasons, many of which were cringe worthy.
Boxing couldn't handle the best champs in two divisions not fighting the number 2 guy and the best guys not putting on much of a show to boot. Lots of fans went away, and not many new guys have shown up.

Pretty much this. It also didn't help when the two best heavyweights, the Klitchko's, flat out said they wouldn't fight, and put on a bunch of boring matches.
I always thought boxing slagged because networks thought poker and reality shows were cheaper to air than live boxing. It was all about money. But ratings prove if you put on boxing, people will watch.
Anyways boxing seems on a rise right now.
Boxing is a brutal sport. It is what it is and I don't know how anyone can think otherwise. I don't know a single person who has actually boxed. I guess a dude I worked with in the Air Force fought one in a boxing smoker (and got his ass beat). But almost myself and every friend I have have played (American) football. I love that game but knowing what we know now I'm not sure I'd really want my son to play it. Most of my friends kids play other sports. I agree that some day football will not be so watered down it will be nothing like the sport it is today.
No, Kellerman hasn't been on ESPN TV in many years. He does co-host a radio show on a local Los Angeles ESPN station.
Kellerman is on ESPN TV a show called SportsNation.
isn't Kellerman on that show? I know he has a radio show
He like co-host or guest host or something to some sports show...they do the 3 cheers and 3 jeers ****

Boxing hasn't declined due to health reasons, that's a load of bs. It's declined because people have other entertainment options and often times boxing has disappointing/boring fights.
