That's what I said. Stoppage made no sense. Obviously if he looked wobbly after an 8 count or couldn't walk towards the ref, then fine, stop it. But to just stop it instantly like that defeats the purpose of them explicitly stating that there is NO 3 knockdown rule, let alone a 2 knockdown rule. It's always something. If it's not a bad ref it's bad judges. #boxing
He did look wobbly. He staggered getting up, and was a little slow responding to come forward and gloves up. It might have helped his case if he dodged a punch before getting dropped again.
It was a foregone conclusion and I thought it was a good stoppage. Keep in mind after he got knocked down, the 2nd time, there was still 2 minutes left in the round so was he going to be able to hold on for dear life for another 2 minutes after he just got dropped for a 2nd time? I doubt it.
I think the ref took all that into consideration.
Wishful thinking. And that may very well have been the case. But in a main event fight with both fighters needing a win to continue their careers at this level, he probably should have given Lopez the benefit of the doubt.
Apparently the 2 knockdown rule was in effect

From what I saw, a new rule of thumb for PBC if you are the star. *Knockdown opponent
*Immediately repeat a flash knockdown for a stoppage
The MMA commentator was like "he got knocked down again 3 seconds later!? Good call, TKO"
On the main event with both guys career on the chopping block you don't stop the fight because he gets knocked down twice in a round. Especially when he is out boxing the other guy and ahead on the cards.
Was pulling for Berto, and very glad he won but c'mon what are y'all blind? That ref stopped it before Lopez could even blink.
