Now I don't agree but if Ali Was young and in his prime he would probably say the same thing about mayweather if he fought before he did.
On a side note ali, mayweather and broner were all born in the year of the snake and all have an proud streak about them lol.
That was only to bribe him to fight. To dangle the carrot in front of him.
But you already knew beating old SSM and DLH and not very good at 147 hatton in america and not manchester would not make FLoyd as good as Ali or SRR or Pac.
AHAHAH !! so you said that to bribe Mayweather to take these fights ! Nice job Hugh Grant Floyd saw your post and took the fights, he fell in your trap ahah.
On a serious note, are you mentally challenged ?
There was a poster named Hugh Grant back in the time saying that Floyd would be up there with Ali, SRR and SRL if he was to beat Cotto, Hatton, DLH and Mosley. He was kind of retarded sometimes but still a funny poster. Check my sig.

Some think Floyd is greater than Pac and that is the biggest achievemtn in Floyds career.
Some think Pac is greater than Ali. I dont think anyone seriously think Floyd is better than Ali. Only Floyd probably.

What the hell are you talking about? Both Mayweather and Pac are great fighters, all time great fighters.
The question is Floyd the best ever, which he is claiming? Not even close. Other than himself and his TMT groupies no one else is saying it. Show me one credible ranking that has Floyd above all others, much less Ali. There is no measurable way to put him there. Ali is a cultural icon, his story is imbedded in the story of the US and Civil Rights. Floyd....an undefeated guy in a weak era.

You might want to rethink that statement.
Both Floyd and Manny are being called the best of this generation already before the fight even happens -- Which is why this fight is such magnitude.
If it was only a single great fighting joe-blow opponent, no one would really be all that interested.
But when you have quite possibly the two best boxers in a generation fighting then everyone will pay to watch the fight. Hence, May 2nd :boxing:

I do think he is the closest we have had to a technically perfect fighter. I think his ability to nullify opponents without moving is what gives him an advantage over most others. I think between him and Pernell, I give a slight edge to Floyd based on a more potent offensive arsenal for me. I think he is that bit more precise than Ali in everything he does, but then again Ali was a much bigger man so its difficult to compare a nimble lightweight/welterweight to a nimble heavyweight. SRR was naturally bigger, made a lot more mistakes but was much more destructive, the same with SRL. I would say they are all in the same league and its who you like more. The main thing which counts against Floyd when you put him against any of these guys is his level of competition just doesn't stack up, so its really hard to make a case for him against Ali or SRL in particular. Could he deal with Hearns speed and power?
Saying that he makes less mistakes than any fighter in history and when he does make mistakes he almost immediately corrects them. He totally disarms the other fighter. I think he is in the argument with anyone in the top 20 in history and I'm not a Mayweather fan in the slightest. I do feel the first Castillo fight was a draw, and I believe Floyd had a bad night. For my money the only fighters who may have beaten him around his generation was a prime Oscar, a prime Shane had a decent punchers chance based on what he was able to do at 38, and Vernon Forrest. Paul Williams at 147 would have been highly competitive too.
Great post!
Nostalgia is a blinding thing
To be fair, when you get to a cetain level, you are allowed to feel you are the best.
What would be disrespectful is if someone the level of Broner or Canelo compared themselves to Ali.
When you are a multiple time world champ, P4P, On top of your game for years, you have ever right to feel that you are the best.
His technique is worlds above Ali and probably edges out Robinson.
This is coming from someone who would point and laugh if Floyd croaked in the ring. Not a fl0mo, just not fooled by nostalgia.
Unfortunately we will never know for sure because he spent his better years generally taking the safe road.
Of course he is NOT but i speak from a FANS PROSPECTIVE and not a BOXERS PROSPECTIVE!
From a Boxers prospective if you gave your entire life to this sport...why the FUK would your goal be to settle for #2 or #3? That is what separate Good From Great IMO, some athletes have that drive to get to the very top while most are OK with being #2 or #3. It is hard to achieve greatness with that "Accepting Not Being The Best Mentality"
His ERA did not have enough talent for me to consider him "Better Than Ali". A Win over Pacquiao does NOTHING for his legacy IMO, maybe solidify him as Top 20 all time I guess? :dunno:
His ERA did not produce enough talent for him to compete against which is not his fault but that is what happened. I struggle to put Mayweather up with or ahead of Ray Leonard to be honest because again Ray was in a ERA that had a lot of talent in and around his Division and he fought them.
Even with the fighters who Mayweather is accused of Ducking, neither of them turned out to be All Time Greats or anything to remember so not even fighting and beating them would have helped.
Perspective. The word you're trying to use is perspective.
i will stick with what i said, just my opinion. i like whitaker also. you prolly gonna get mad but i also think pacquiao is the best offensive fighter ever.
Manny is one of my favorite offensive fighters ever a well. SRL and Holyfield, also.
It's not a sign of immaturity. It's a sign of confidence to the point of being cocky about it.
There's not a single problem in the world with him saying that he's the best. None whatsoever.
There is a problem when one of your arguments is that Ali only fought in one weight class. The problem is that you sound like an idiot.

No way is Pacquiao a better offensive fighter than SRR. He may be top 5 but he doesn't fight inside, and when you are talking about the best offensive fighters this would in my opinion be a must. I would put Ray Robinson definitely above him, he was absolutely destructive, plus he had a great jab and a better inside game, he was dangerous in more positions in a boxing ring. The crazy thing is you can't even see footage of him at his very best, most of the fights and highlights available are a faded version against bigger guys.
No he isn't. Sweet Pea is! It's not even close, man. You couldn't even hit Pea with a jab, consistently. His legs were gold. Floyd has been hit in the mouth, more than you'd like to admit. And on top of all of this, he got hit by many lesser fighters. He's never had to put his defense up against another primed A Level fighter. Whitaker did it against the very best. You think Maidana would've been busting Pea up like that? Nope. Not a chance. How about Corley? How about Cotto? Nope. Not a chance. Floyd has never had the best legs. He is a lateral defender. A reflexed defender. He doesn't care to be moving around the ring. His movement is from the waist up. Do your research before you spew out such disrespect.

I almost used to never use that function until the buildup for this fight. There are way too many idiots posting in here now. It was bad before but now it's become unreadable.
I was close to just quitting this site but now that I use that function my experience here, although it can be shitty still, is a lot better.
Liston was way past his prime when he fought Ali..foreman was tough but not technical.Frazier beat Ali.Floyds NEVER lost its a no brainer.Log off son???the only log is you on the bar stool.
:lol1: @ a Mayweather advocate pointing out wins over past prime opposition.
And the only "no brainer" here is you, ya dingus. Nobody but casual observers give a sh*t about undefeated records.
floyd prolly has the best defense ever i think. manny still gonna win. 100% guarantee it. no doubt whatsoever. theres no way floyd will be able to outpoint pacquiao.

I don't have any issue with him saying this. Whether we agree with him or not, it makes no difference. I think this is the mentality a great fighter should have, and with his being undefeated and all, he's earned the right to feel that way about himself. When all is said and done he may deserve to be mentioned with those two, considering what he's accomplished as far as being the pay-per-view king and potentially retiring undefeated.
