Hank Kaplan was the top scholar of the sport for decades. He passed recently. He had the largest collection of boxing memoribilia and archives in the world. Google the man.
I also thought Dzinziruk received a gift decision in that fight. Konecny is the best fighter most people have never heard of, too bad he's never had a good promoter.
I wouldn't say best fighter no one heard of, but a pretty tough dude who is fun to watch. Yeah his promtional situation has sucked. It's like working with Don King and being named Devon Alexander. See how fast that dude blew up and got on TV as soon as he got away from King? Same will happen to Dzinziruk
The reason why HBO wouldn't buy Williams/Dzinziruk is because they bought Williams/Phillips. And while it wasn't a bad scrap, it did horrible numbers. Williams can't carry a card. He was matched properly coming up (kudos to match-making), but he wasn't promoted correctly. No fanbase has absolutely killed this guy in negoiations. Paul and Sergei wanted to fight. But it would've been a bad business decision for HBO and they didn't want to lose money yet again due to Williams.
His name recognition has grown because he's been linked to other fighters. As for Sergei, he hasn't fought in a while and he won't be tossed in tough because they want to build somewhat of a fansbase with his first 2 fights before they put him into a situation where losing is a possibility. Thus making some money off of him before cashing out. Williams would overwhelm him. Hell I thought Konecny won and that isn't bias, it's more shock. We'll see Dzinziruk before the year is out in a big(ish) fight and we'll be glad too. For now, let him build up a following and shake some rust.
I've been an online writer for 5 1/2 years and never heard of RingTalk or this Martel chick. And this will be the last time I bother with either. I couldn't get halfway into this piece. Glad I'm not associated with a site that has writers like that.
I'm a big Dawson fan, but I put money on Pascal for this fight. In some boxing circles the rumors have been going around that Dawson knocked some random chick up. Has had some issues with his manager and Eddie sent home some sparring partners and Dawson was understandably not focused in camp. Hopefully he puts this behind him and comes back strong. We'll at least know that as the Light Heavyweight Champion, Pascal will make for some good fights and not run from any challenges just like Dawson wouldn't have.
absolutely. Chad had so many distractions (which were his fault) heading into this fight that Shaw told him to pull out, but the money is just too good in Canada (it really is). Dawson is a gym rat and a focused young man. He'll get his shit back together and come back focused for the rematch and for whatever presents itself afterwards. This trully won't be a loss if he learns from it. And I think this was the perfect fight for him to lose. He was getting a little complacement in his career and Pascal took that away from him. Jean Pascal is now the true light heavyweight champion and he'll defend that title tooth and nail. We can expect a much better fight 2nd time around from both men and I see Dawson taking it. But let me add, Good on you Pascal. You're the champ and you'll act like and will fight like one as long as you carry the title
Hardest punch doesn't equate to high KO% or most knockouts. Vitali has stated before that the hardest he was ever hit was by a Virchis punch and that includes his sparring with his brother (yes I realize the brothers may go easier on each other because they're a little fruity. My brother and I punch the shit out of each other like most brothers would/should) Chagaev told me once that Virchis was the hardest he was hit and others have told me that Chagaev hit harder than anyone else. I believe it is Virchis, that doesn't mean he has the overall skill to land his power shots like the Klitschkos do, he just has the harder shot. This is a big disparity between the two.

seriously dude, you responded. Its not fair for us to say who, because well, you know. It like bragging.
Wilder, the only American boxer to medal at the 2008 Olympics, made his pro debut on the undercard of the Taylor-Lacy fight in November, scoring a second round KO over 2-2-1 Ethan Cox.
Your thoughts and impressions?

It only showed part of the introductions, so. He looked loose and lanky. Thats it
Juan Manuel Marquez squandered a good part of his prime going over to Indonesia to fight Chris John for little money in a fight he couldn't win on the cards.
Joe is solid, as Ryan Songalia can attest to, Hanks whooped up on McCline in sparring. The kid came in under Hirsch-Boreo promotions. Since HB hasn't even done a show yet, Hanks has had trouble getting fights. He isn't a saviour, but he does have good footwork, high punch output, and has more than adequate pop. He still has a lot to learn, but his fundamentals are better than any prospect with so few fights
I won't believe this fight happens until both men are starring each other down at a press conference. It would be a great action fight, but im skeptical it goes off.
If Joe was a black American, he would have fought better fighters at an earlier stage of his career and depending on the results he would be praised or just respected. Its not that he a white european that robs him of respect over here, its that he hasn't made it a point to fight good or great fighters in their prime outside of Kessler and runs his mouth about being a champion forf so long when in reality he was just a protected titlist. I wish we could've seen the best of Calzaghe when he was younger fighting the better fighters, but he robbed us of that and ultimately robbed himself of the respect he thinks he has earned.
so looks like this fight might happen soon, who yall think takes this one.
Jesse Feliciano gave Cintron hell on the inside and made it tough. Clottey with eat him alive on the inside and along the ropes. Cintron is a good fighter, and while Clottey isn't a great fighter, he is a really good fighter. Clottey easily takes this in what would be a good fight to watch.
Winning a belt really doesn't mean much anymore. Tua lost his only World title fight being shutdown by Lennox Lewis. Rahman outboxed Tua in both their fights and his KO of Rahman was bogus (should've been DQ'd for his blatant late punch after the 9th rd bell tolled) He was then given a gift draw against Rahman in the rematch. That was the best we ever saw Rahman and almost the worst we ever saw Tua. His 19sec demolition of Ruiz will always make him one of my favorite fighters to watch. His bout with Ike Ibeabuchi was a classic for the ages, but it showed the limitation of Tua's style, thus making him vulnerable to Lewis. His management torpedoed his career with is a GIANT travesty, and David still has a mild chance to be something in this "era" if he takes more than a mild interest in his training and conditioning.
You have Ngoudjo on your list, how comes?
He is obviously a very decent fighter but you must be his only fan on here?
I probably am his only fan. Its that style of fighter that interests me. hence why I like Clottey as well. I liked Ike Quartey as I was learning how to fight so I just appreciate how they do things. Busy, strong, good body attack that help keep their opponents off balance. I try to emulate JMM now, but I have always fought more like them. Because my jab sucks mostly. I also believe that Ngoudjo beat Malignaggi by a slim margin, and thats not just because I am a fan.
oh he has his haters as do most boxers. Ivan Calderon is the best techinically skilled fighter in the game, but JMM is the most creative combo puncher who mixes in well designed counters to go along with technical brilliance. That is why people love to watch JMM fight. I try to fight like him in the ring (don't even come close though) and will drop everything to go to or watch him fight.
The worst division in boxing.lol, Either this is a poor flame post or just a poor guy who doesn't know any better. Anyways, Banks has gotten some great sparring with the likes of Klitschko, Chapman, and even Lee. As someone previously stated, the best bet is for Banks to come out early and apply pressure. If he tries to take his time, Enzo will gain confidence and take control of the fight. The one thing that Jonathon possess that Enzo does not is a fighter's heart. We know Banks will get up from a back knockdown or two and fight on, I don't see maccarinelli doing the same.
Would be a interesting match up, two of american fastest rising starts do battle.Would be the classic match the ''Boxer'' v the ''Brawler'' With Johnson wanting to move and box and stick his accrute left jab in Arreloa's face and Chris wanting to use his strength and size to cut off the ring and make this into a fight.:rofl::rofl::rofl: Johnson a fast rising star. Thats funny. Listen, Johnson could box Arreoal's ears off and win this. But him and Malik Scott are the two most boring prospects out. I've been ringside to a couple of Johnson fights and every time the crowd has booed him in a winning effort. He is horrible to watch. Its a shame too because the kid has loads of talent. Just the opposite is Arreola who is void of talent but is one fun ****er to see fight.
As everyone else says; Douglas. I will argue that DOuglas was a good fighter as was Rahman before he knocked out Lewis. The reason why Douglas was a bigger upset wasn't because of the invincibility of Tyson or even the 42-1 odds. Its that Tyson unlike Lewis came prepared to destroy his opponent. And yes his corner SUCKED using a damn glove filled with ice water instead of an enswell. But, Tyson was very game even dropping Buster with a vicious uppercut. ANd Buster had to fight a more disciplined fight and fight much harder and like I said got up off the canvas to achieve his upset. Rahman just sent one right hand in against a fat, lazy, disinterested Lennox along the ropes.
I like Dimitrenko's chances here. For the longest time I was ardently against him. However, he has really shown some things of late that has shocked me. Sure he needs a little more seasoning agsint technical fighters, but his body work of late has been steadily improving (see his KO of Krasniqi) and most heavyweights don't even realize their opponents have torsos. His jab has improved well and his combos are greatly improved . Basically his offensive game has come along very well, but he still needs to use his feet more and to move his head. When he figures that out, the man will be a demon in the ring. And 3 years ago I trully never thought I would say that about him. As for Wlad/Povetkin, Povetkin's style isn't tailr-made for Wlad. Quite frankly, its the perfect style to beat Wlad. Punches in bunches from many angles with great body work in there too. C'mon, seriously people think for a moment. However, Povetkin's chin isn't up to the power of Wlad, and if Chambers can stun him, Wlad can put him to sleep. It will be Sasha's chin that will determine the fight for Wlad, not Povetkin's style. Haye is better than many poeple think he is and not as good as some swear he is. He definitely has a good chance to win those fights as long as he answers some questions about himself to himself. Can he develop the prerequisite self-confidence to hang in there when he gets some good shots in on a heavyweight and they still stand in there and deliver good shots in return? Sure he talks a big game and has a lot of confidence, but bravado doesn't equate to inner strength. Klitschkos can't really make a great year for themselves unless one of them becomes the true champion, and that will only really happen if they fight one another (for now at least).
man 2-1 odds aren't fair enough. I can't even find this fight on betting sites. I'd take 8-1 odds and be willing to wager 100points. And I feel thats a waste of 100points. People can bitch about Rahman getting this fight, and I am one of them because I feel that Wlad needs to be fighting Vitali to give us a real champion at heavyweight for the first time since Lewis retired, but hey whatever. At least he is keeping busy. Damn Rahman used to be a real good boxer-puncher until he landed that money shot on Lennox. Ever since then he thought he was a power-puncher and abandoned everything that made him a real contender. As for his fans, yeah he never really had any. they were mostly anti-Lewis people.
Calzaghe is 37 going on 38, is a SWM not a LHW and has busted hands.
Dawson is just after another old guy to fight for a big payday instead of looking to beat young hungry fighter of his own era.
:gives:
I love flamer threads, wait no I don't, their pathetic. Calzaghe is 36 btw, and the champ. Not to mention the past two years is the entirety of Calzaghe's era (he didn't really have a meaningful fight until Lacy).
I think history will conclusively show that Ried(IBO), Eubank(WBO/WBC), Woodhall(WBC), Brewer(IBF), Shieka, Veit and Mitchell(WBA) are going to be more significant for Calzaghe's resume than Jeff "hype-job" Lacy.
You will note that most of those listed where past or future SMW belt holders.
lolololololololol. NO!!! IBO, isn;t even a real organization. Eubanks is the only one that stands out there, and he was well past it at the time. While I agree that Lacy was a bit of a hype-job. It wasn't until he fought Lacy that he trully won his first world title. Being apart of BWAA, lineal titles are the only ones that hold significance to me. Big fights can happen without a title on the line, but lineal titles are the only ones that trully matter when talking about legacy. The thorough beating that Calzaghe gave Lacy in such a big fight (It established the 1st true SMW champion) is a testament to what he should've been doing years ago when he was pissing away his career fighting so-so guys. He should've fought Sven Ottke, and should've fought Roy Jones about 6 years ago. Win or lose (if he fought Ottke in Germany he would've lost no matter how bad he would've beaten him) it would've done more for his legacy than beating a 100 Omar Shiekas. Jeff Lacy gave Joe Calzaghe is chance to shine, and ever since (minus the two defenses against Mandfredo and Bika) Joe has been fighting the best fights. Too bad he didn't start that 7 years ago when it would've served him best. So Lacy was his first big fight, her threw away years of credibility before that.
It's not a flamer thread it's a sarcam thread aimed at douchebags like you who are so ignorant that you don't know what a meaningful fight is unless HBO tells you it is.
lol, your trash talk is weak. But I appreciate it anyway.
