There is a balance when it comes to stopping fights but this one definitely could have been stopped earlier. These are the types of beatings that have lasting results. I hope he is okay.
Some of the responses here are hysterical. Calling someone a casual fan because they disagree with you is why many on this site lack the competence to even have a realistic boxing conversation. I have been a fan since the 70's. My first "favorite" fighter was Smokin Joe Frazier. I have attended many cards over the years and met many greats including Ali, Tyson, Larry Holmes, Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. of course, and dozens of others. In the last three years alone I have attended probably 30 or more live shows from PBC, Top Rank, Dibella, Matchroom, Star Boxing, Murphy's boxing, etc. Do I think that Wilder is ducking Joshua? One of the hardest right hands in memory is ducking a glass jaw yet has fought Ortiz twice and is readying for a second Fury fight. Makes a lot of sense for the "non casuals", I guess. I'll proudly carry my casual tag to the next card that I attend in January.
Only way Fast Eddie offers Wilder $7-8M for a Brooklyn fight vs. Whyte is if Wilder agrees to that $15M flat fee vs. Joshua. So don't get your hopes up.
I agree. This sounds like there is more than just strings attached. If it is a legit offer without conditions then I believe that Wider should accept. Knockout out Whyte and then Joshua. " The British are coming" to get KNOCKED out!
Nah...takes too many shots to the head, which is doomsday for anyone fighting Wilder.
Would be a good scrap while it lasted.
Agreed! Deontay would take his head off!
Where have all the heavy weights gone? Any good up and comers out there? It has been Fury, Joshua, Wilder, Whyte for years. How many can you count before you get into bum territory? Can you legitimately get to 10?
Ten legitimate contenders is asking a lot in any division. There are some up and comers on the way. I was at Jared Anderson's third pro fight. The kid looks pretty good so far!
I disagree with it mostly as Ruiz number 5 but it’s also fair at least a step up from the usual guys making rankings on here .
Check ESPN and BoxRec! He is pretty close. ESPN has Ruiz at 4 and Ring magazine has him at 5. BoxRec has him at 6. What's the issue?
Furys not giving him a third fight, Wilder is activating his rematch clause that was in the contract .
Fury would rather fight AJ but Wilders ego will be his own downfall. The smartest thing to do was fight the AJ and Fury winner for all the belts but Wilder isn’t the brightest guy .
Wilder wouldn’t even give him one fight if he knew it was leading to this , he out played himself and Fury out played him feeding him false info that he wasn’t ready and team Wilder took the bait .
Fight the Fury/Joshua winner for all the belts? You are assuming that Hearn would have A.J sign a one fight deal to face Fury. Not in a million years. There would undoubtedly be a rematch clause and Wilder will be 35 in October. The only real option is a trilogy fight!
Garcia has been the same since he has moved up to welterweight. He edged Lamont Peterson, beat a blown up "ghost" Guerrero 116-112 for the vacant title and has lost to Thurman, Porter, and now Spence. IMHO he has never really been a top tier welter. He is a step below and that hasn't changed. There are some intriguing fights available. Ugas? Perhaps!
Calzaghe of course. Even though Hopkins and Jones were shot, he got those big names in there. Plenty people had Hopkins and Jones winning too. GGG beating Canelo twice isn't that big of an achievement.
Lol. Not a Canelo guy? Calzaghe was a great fighter!
if you think golovkin beat canelo "twice" you need help and need to learn the sport or watch something else...i dont think he even beat him once...but if you wanted to argue the first one and say golovkin won i wouldnt say you were crazy lol...but both?!?!?! FOH
I think he was being facetious but it's not out of the question to say that GGG won the first fight!

LOL. Not a Canelo guy? Calzaghe wa sa great fighter!
Nah, not really.
Calzaghe was good, he just stayed in his class the entire time and the only time he moved was to face older guys that were well past it.
I rate guys that move up and do big things. Joe didn't do that. His division during his time wasn't really poppin, know what I mean?
I get what you are saying but Marvin hagler stayed at 160 his entire career. Not comparing the two but I did like Joe as well!
Lol wtf? Ain't nobody subbing to DAZN for Andrade lol. The situation being reversed would make sense.
I am an Andrade guy and attended a few of his fights but with that being said you are 100% correct. No one suscribes to DAZN for Boo Boo!
Molina is just a showcase fight. Hrgovic will be as nightmare for anyone under 6'4 . Kownacki is tough but the Arreola fight told me all I need to know with the Martin fight . Hrgovic ring IQ is miles over them and he has crazy ability to disguise punches and can switch up how hard he hits you. I'm seeing Viali klitschko all over again but a healthier /younger one .
You are obviously very high on this guy. Time will tell!
I've been thinking exactly the same thing myself. There's a reason why Wilder won't fight Dillian Whyte and it's the same reason why he used every trick in the book to delay fighting Povetkin when he was WBC mando. Wilder dodged a bullet when Povetkin tested positive for meldonium.
Did you watch the Rivas/Whyte fight? Rivas dropped him and almost stopped him. I was ringside for Rivas/Jennings. Not much there. Wilder destroys Whyte!
No where near stopping him..... we have the TV footage why would you lie?
Another Whyte fan? Wilder crushes him easily. With or without the steroids. Usually when you take steroids your head gets bigger. Doesn't seem to be working for Whyte.
I heard the same thing regarding Ortiz..... the truth is - Wilder will be comfortable in distance and avoiding punches..... Ortiz will stay in distance for the entire fight while Wilder eyes him up, then "Boo-bam".... it's over.
Still want to see Wilder get it put on him by a YOUNG and competent pro.... not Ortiz.,
There are some young guys who would definitely test Wilder. Dubois, Joyce, Ajagba, Kownacki , and Ruiz to name a few. Wilder has to get past Fury first. Won't be an easy task. I'm still not thrilled with Wilder's skill set other than that bomb of a right hand. That is what makes him so exciting to some of us. He can look amateurish and wild at times but makes up for that with one vicious shot. Last night was boring until that one punch. Let's see if A.J can rebound against Ruiz. If not then a Wilder/Ruiz fight is on the horizon.
I think Wilder beats Whyte in an exciting fight..... Whyte will try to take Wilders head off (unlike old Ortiz) and it will be a brilliant fan-friendly fight.
Whyte must clear his name first and then wait in line. Wilder has a rematch with Fury scheduled with a supposed third fight as well. Whyte blew a golden opportunity when he refused an Ortiz fight for a mandatory. The big guys are back in business and I am loving it. I was always a fan of the heavyweights and there seems to be many great matchups on the horizon.
Hrgovic has the best chance ,I actually favor him in that match style clash.
I have to see Hrgovic against better competition. The Molina fight doesn't excite me. Kuzmin looked like a beast until he moved up as well. I am a big Kownacki guy, having attended four of his fights but I do realize his limitations. Adam gives it his all and I would love to see him against Luis ortiz.
Yes, let's see it. Stevenson will have good options at Top Rank. Magdaleno, Conlan, Frampton and Warrington. I hope all those fights happen. Stevenson will be a P4P talent one day and people are going to cry about his style for years to come.
It's called the sweet science for a reason. Shakur hits and doesn't get hit. It may not be exciting at all times but it is what it is. There have been many ring tragedies lately. Who am I to criticize a fighter's style? I want the best against the best . Period?!
I'd say 2, especially after seeing his fight against Galahad.
You never know. Stevenson is tough to hit but Warrington would be a test. Love to see it!
Marvin Hagler who was born in 1954 won the National AAU 165-pound title in 1973 as an amateur. Do the math. He then competed as a middleweight for his entire career and retired in 1987. Talk about conditioning and dedication. Basically the same weight at 19 and 33. Those were the days of the 15 round championship fights. Hagler would have crushed Canelo!

It’s a big amount of money Joshua will be getting of the $40 million.
Ruiz’s purse will be in the neighborhood of $9 million. Ruiz got $6 million for his fight with Joshua on June 1, and that’s enough for him to live well for the rest of his life. The $9 million+ that Ruiz gets for the rematch against Joshua is icing on the cake.
What are the purses for Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua?
These sources are reporting HUGEEEEE MONEYYYY for Anthony Joshua crazy stuff!!!!
Anyone have a real confirmed source reporting what the purses are?
There have been rumors of Joshua receiving between 75 and 85 and Ruiz totaling around 13 mil. after all is said and done.
People have very short term memories , Fury had Wilder stunned in round 4 or 5 ,going for a quick knockout doesn’t hurt him it’s an advantage for a guy vs one who needs to wait for an opening which is mostly after mid rounds . Fury will stop Wilder but it will be around the mid rounds .
How about a friendly wager? You are picking Fury by K.O, I am picking Wilder. A decision and there is no winner. We can keep it small. A hundy or two!
It’s good to see someone admit they were wrong. As I’ve said before, I thought it was a toss-up fight. I was half thinking the judges would call it a draw, although I was leaning towards Badou. Any result would’ve been fine with me, as long as the cards reflected the closeness of the bout (which they did). In so many of these close matches, people tend to get upset if the guy they saw as the winner loses. Yet, there are usually at least a couple of rounds that could’ve gone either way. If even one judge leans toward the other guy, it changes the result. It’s usually not a robbery. A robbery is any fight where there is a clear winner — in effect, by a wide margin. There can be no question, no close rounds to affect the eventual outcome.
Great post! Props to Maxi for being humble. It's easy to get caught up in the scoring of a fight especially if you have had a few cold ones. The fight could have gone either way but Jack certainly finished strong.
