Canelo couldn't deal with a former super featherweight and lost to him wide. He barely dealt with fake middleweight Cotto. How do you think Canelo fares with Duran over 15 rounds?
The fact that Hagler vs Duran was a close fight only proves that Canelo would beat him.
Canelo is way bigger, slicker and more powerful than a small ass Duran moving up to 160.
You guys need to use your brains.

He couldn't clearly beat Golovkin, Lara and Jacobs. He clearly isn't as good a boxer offensively and defensively as Duran. Like someone else mentioned imagine Canelo not being able to stop Cotto or even hurt Floyd once. Both men were much smaller than him and much older.
Can you prove anything I said wrong or are you one those guys who just overrate the past?
Can you take Canelo's c0ck out of your mouth and explain why you're right?
I love you. Remember when hacker was mad the tommy had a pinky problem. And he got mad.
Sadly whe haglar. A living god beat up a Brit. They. The so called kind brits. Three bottles.
As great as hagler was, duran and srl were just greater. They are both top 10 fighters alltime while hagler is far from the list. These comparisons does not equate to great big man beats a great small man at all.
And nope when it comes to atgs the big men don’t always have the advantage.
I like canelo’s skills, upperbody movement and all but I hate his stamina issues and his lack of gears.. he fights the same way from round 1 and fades in the later rounds.. he’s never behind the cards, maybe that’s why he doesn’t need the extra gear but Look at floyd against maidana. He loses 4 of the first 5 rounds the. Steps on another gear offensively starting round 6 since he’s behind the cards.
Pac has been outbox many times in the early rounds as well, and changes their gears come the championship rounds.
and i think against hagler it’ll be a war. So his stamina issues will be put to test. I am not particularly impress with canelo’s power yet at the higher weights unless he KOs elite dudes. Very respectable though
Right...and now you're more or less agreeing with me, and even possibly the OP (who had an obnoxious post/thread, but the main point he had wasn't a terrible one imho).
Hagler was a great MW, but had some flaws...Canelo is a great MW-ish fighter, but has some flaws...exactly how it would pan out, I don't know...but Hagler imo showed he had some issues with guys who could box, move and take a punch (Watts and WMSr helped to illustrate that as well, not just Duran and SRL).
For me that is because Hagler didn't try to box his way in, he more tried to bounce his way in and maybe take a shot to give his...against better boxers they were able to get out of range and deliver their shots and avoid Marvin's...that's what I've seen with him anyway.
Of course, once he got inside, well he was going to win any tit for tat 99/100 times...I just think Canelo is a level or two above that boxing skills wise...but yes Canelo has his own issues as well, with activity and stamina.
How it would really go, I have no idea...but I would give Canelo a decent chance...would be interesting to see how those late rounds would go...but if Canelo could survive GGG in those late rounds he could probably go 12 with Hagler...15? Idk...I miss those 15 round days.
I think Canelo, for whatever reason, has improved basically every fight over the last few years...yes, he couldn't really hurt a faded Cotto, fighting above his best weight...but his last fight, he goes up to 175 and hurts and stops a faded Kovalev...that is impressive, certainly compared to what he did vs Cotto...how he is able to do this, I am not sure, and not certain that it is close to being clean...but he is doing it.
I would add that while I felt Canelo lost both fights to GGG...I feel like he at least made GGG fight cautious, and even held the center of the ring with him in the 2nd fight...Kov appeared somewhat cautious, for whatever reason, in his fight with Canelo as well...you could say the same for Jacobs...and with Chavez, I think Chavez didn't get KOed because he just clammed up and didn't throw any punches.
Fair to wonder when Hagler's best level really was too, but he was only 29 vs Duran.
Also, Duran and Leonard, Duran especially, were really considerably smaller than Hagler...I would have expected the bigger man to have a much easier time vs Duran, and to be able to be much more competitive, or even dominant, vs Leonard - who was moving up 13 pounds and was inactive for 3 years...that fight wasn't even close.
That Hagler really basically fought Duran to a draw, and got beat easily by SRL, is not a good look imo...the bigger man should always have the advantage in fights, we see it all the time.
We know the saying, a great big man beats a great little man...that Hagler fought Duran even and lost (8-4 really at best) to SRL, well it shows that you have to do some adjusting to that formula.
Hagler was great...but I would have expected an ATG MW to have an easier time in those 2 fights.
I mentioned before that I would expect Hagler to have some advantages over Canelo, and Canelo to have some advantages over Hagler...how it would play out, no one knows...but Canelo has a lot of skills and I think would look very good for portions of that fight.

Canelo couldn’t make a bloated cotto gunshy which he have a very considerable size and age advantage to.
He definitely didn’t hurt a chinny jacob. Nor a weightdrained punching bag in chavez jr.
I don’t think he’d make hagler gunshy.
And duran and leonard are atgs. His performance against is not a knock on him.
This is canelo’s prime years too. Unless we expect him to get even better drastically few years from now.

Me neither and that is why I called the OP an idiot.
But the phag thing Rob, come on, let's grow up a little. Be well!
It’s just tiring sometimes bro, all the bs you read, sometimes I go savage mode on people. I mean no harm though.
I never said that, I don’t engage in “mythical” match ups who gives a phuck

You mean like how Canelo didn't stop a past-prime Miguel Cotto? That kind of small light middleweight who started at 140 and did his best work at 147?
Clearly not great enough to win fotd. This is his decade he’s at his prime of his life yet he got beat by a guy who only fought half the decade. That i think is a testament that canelo not great enough having all the advantages he has. Leverage and youth by his side.
Had he had atleast one convincing win over GGG, a KO against cotto (an old, bloated and torn version) a definitive victory over lara..
And a KO over jacobs he would have won it.
He has a lot close fights in this decade that could’ve gone either way that’s he didn’t win fotd.
In 2029, he has a very slim chance too. If you’re stamina is an issue at your prime how much when you get older.
Floyd showed you can win by fighting 10 times and he also showed you don’t need ko’s to win it... what you need is money... canelo will make the most this decade and win it this decade, if not him... who?

So who did Canelo beat at mw that you can lay such a claim on? GGG? I wouldn't put GGG and Hagler in the same category and Canelo's people wasn't too certain he could handle that assignment without GGG losing a step. In the ring, GGG's jab bothered the s**t out of Canelo, and Hagler's jab was outstanding.
Was Hagler even prime against Duran? He was early 30's but already had what? 60+ fights by the time he got Duran? Duran is easily top 10 greatest fighters of all time. Regardless of weight. I doubt if Canelo cracks top 20. Duran beat Sugar Ray(another top 10 all time great) @ ww toe to toe, what makes you think he wasn't going to give Hagler problems.
So what happens when Canelo lands on Hagler and realizes he ain't fighting a cherrypick like Amir Khan and a faded version of Kovalev who doesn't fold so easy.
Canelo is great at counter punching and and body punching, his waist and head movement aren’t you far off from being great either. He’s also great at gettin haters mad 😂

Naaaa. As a true boxing fan we should care about context.
Broner is a 4 division champ.
It doesn’t matter who he fought?
Canelo is a very very solid fighter though and hard to beat. He good at everything he does but nothing great at one thing for me yet.
I don’t think he KOs the elite prime ones at 160, let alone hagler.
He’ll probably KO 38 yr old GGG though if there’s a 3rd fight.

then why not allow the opponent to fight at the middleweight limit? Forcing someone to fight at 155 is not fighting at middleweight. Your hero hid at 155 for a couple years. Deal with it.
No one forced the other boxes o sign, they could of said no like ggg did... they signed the contract at 55 and cashed that check too. Canelo didn’t put no gun to their head

So you must think GGG would also beat Hagler if ya think Canelo could??

After watching Hagler vs Duran, it's evident that Canelo would clearly beat Hagler. | BoxingScene Community
