Actually what would happen if Margarito Ko's Cotto? Because all i hear is Mayweather should fight Cotto, So if Margarito beat Cotto like he did Cintron(Not say he would) would people call for Margarito/Mayweather or still want to see Mayweather/Cotto?
Floyd Mayweather, considering he is the pound 4 pound champ & the lineal 147lb champ he should be FORCED/PRESSURED (whatever) to fight the winner... There should be NO excuses!
2501, I think we have a misunderstanding, that's y I said read my 1st post again! This is the same guy who said he was better than Ali, Leonard, & Robinson b/c they all lost, so you have to take what Floyd says with a grain of salt, so to speak... I understand what you're saying about him "downgrading boxing" & what not, but iIve realized Floyd says whatever sounds the best at the time...when you're the so-called "Ambassador" of boxing it doesn't help when belittle it, but like they say any publicity is better than none
I've never said Floyd brought back boxing, but even if Floyd's motives are to increase his cash flow - good for him - but in the process, (whether he knows it or not) it all falls back on the sport of boxing & I don't think it gives boxing a black eye, it just shows one of the many personalities that it has to offer!
Look at it like this, if they watched a man dancing with the stars out the ring & in the ring he left Hatton seeing stars, that's a pretty good reflection just not on him, but the sport in general...That's y I said he does more good to the sport than bad even with his loud mouthed, arrogant ways... Either way, I agree this is a stupid thread!
you guys keep spewing the same bullshit without even explaining HOW. like a broken fucking record. its like an auto-reply.
I did, you must of missed it...you might want to re-read it!
nothing you explained details how what he's doing is good for boxing.
Damn, why is it every time I post something about Floyd you have to reply with some bull-shit? I'm not a "Floyd-Boy" that thinks he's GOD & can beat every fighter in history, so don't come to me like that!
The question was; is he good or bad for the sport... I said he's bringing new eyes to the sport by his appearances & participation in various events...is that not good? He's putting up record ppv #'s is that not good? I think people get 2 caught up in what he says, & you shouldn't b/c he contradicts himself all the time...
ALL PRIME(D)
Tyson v Ali --- would get knocked down by a huge hook (ala h. cooper & j. frazier) in the early rounds, then get off the canvas & proceed to frustrate Tyson with the jab from outside, tie him up on the inside, then about after the 7th or 8th rd when Tyson slows down Ali will sit on his punches throw combos & get Tyson out of there... Ali K.O. 9 Tyson
"Sweat Pea" Whitaker v Floyd Jr - - I think with Floyd's trouble throughout his career with southpaws that he would have a hell of a time trying to get thru whitaker's Defense. This will force Floyd to lead, & albeit he is an accurate puncher, he can get a lil' wild with his shots & leave himself open, Sweat pea would take advantage of this & while it will be a pretty even match up... Whitaker's herky-jerky style may cause too much for the Money man to figure out...Whitaker SD Floyd (on a very controversial decision)
Sugar Ray Leonard v Aaron Pryor ---- ?????? I want to lean towards Sugar, but will the unpredictable style & will of Pryor you could never be too sure...Damn I wished they would have fought!
Floyd Mayweather, regardless of whether you like him or not is a SUPERSTAR!!!!! He is bringing attention to the sport of boxing with a damn good marketing team who has put Floyd's face on Dancing with the stars to Wrestlemania...like i said you might not agree with the way he conducts himself out of the ring or you may find him to be boring, cowardly, or whatever, but that's his style & it works for him... SO HELL NAW FLOYD ISN'T BAD 4 BOXING! He isn't the best ever or the savior of boxing, but he is doing a good job of gaining interest from the casual sports fans & that's what it is all about...Bringing more eyes to the sport, so we can bring boxing back to the "mainstream"
But there is a difference between Honesty and being a good commentator.
Joe Tessitore telling us that Vera is basically a no hoper against Lee, is honesty.
Teddy Atlas telling us that the main event of a show he works for is a farce, is honesty.
Nick Charles telling us that a fight we are currently watching is boring, is being a bad commentator. Being a terrible one in fact. His job is to make it more interesting for us, not let us in on the fact the fight is boring... yes, we can tell Nick, thanks.
Yeah, I understand what you saying... they're not the best, but at least they're objective in their assessments!
They're all good fights... I think the Dawson/Johnson is the most intriguing, but the Margarito/Cintron will prob be the most exciting...
Woods SD Tarver
Dawson UD Johnson
Margarito KO7 Cintron
Cotto SD Gomez (It wont be as easy as people are predicting)
I was thinking about that earlier, I actually respected them for their honesty b/c they said EXACTLY what they felt & commented on what they saw, instead of being OBVIOUSLY biased like the HBO commentators
Basically...:ugh:
You're not to far off...Floyd is a great talent, but it's his MOUTH & the way he conducts himself that turns people off from him! He might just do it to stir up some $h!T, get attention, or he really may be this delusional...:purity:
Nah, I say he should stay at 130lbs & attempt to take over that division, b/c it is no guarantee if he moves to lightweight that Arum & Co are going to accept the offers for the rematch!
I don't see why people are getting so bent out about it... OF COURSE I rather him defend his crown against WORTHY challengers, (ala Cotto) but Cotto's fighting Gomez & then he's CONTRACTUALLY obligated to fight the winner of the Cintron-Margarito Slugfest! This is just a way to increase his marketability & enhance his image! It's no different when he was on dancing with the stars & everyone said he was unfocused on boxing & he was going to get beat by the Hatton & then he knocked Ricky out!
To be honest this says a lot about Floyd's market value, that he can headline the one of the BIGGEST sporting events there is in Wrestlemania & he's not a WRESTLER or a HEAVYWEIGHT! My only concern is him getting hurt by the Big Show, b/c of a mistake, revenge, (for broken nose) and/or jealously...
easy question. many posters here keep using Hatton as an example of how Cotto would get easily beaten by Floyd. I would assume that people would know difference between styles and attributes, but apparently.........
They're not! People just look at their pressure & aggressive styles of fighting and figure their both the same...mostly to discredit Cotto & to say he hasn't earned a shot at Floyd!
It might be somewhere in between war & bore...medium rare maybe? I don't think it's going to be a total stinker, I actually think it's going to exceed expectations!
I don't think 75% of these boxers are even prepared to go the whole 12, let alone 15! I still picked 15rds for championship fights, b/c it eliminates the even rounds, increasing the chances of a DRAW! For BIG/IMPORTANT fights we need CLARITY... like a couple people said before me; 13 is fine; as long as we can have a DECISIVE WINNER!
Is there anyone? Didn't think so.
Also, how about asking that question the other way around, is there anyone on Joe's record that Bernard wouldn't beat? Maybe... a prime Robin Reid would have been a good fight, I imagine Sakio Bika's unorthodox style and raw power would give an oldman Hopkins plenty of trouble, and also I think Mikkel Kessler would KO Hopkins. I don't think Hopkins has the power to keep Jeff Lacy off him like Joe did either.
Thoughts?
WOW! U must not watch 2 much boxing huh? Welcome to the Forums, stick around & I'm sure one of our knowledgeable posters will be here to assist you shortly... :cool2:
Listen, I'm not defending him at all, but it's unfair to say he's ducking this man! I'm like everyone else I don't want to see Oscar/Floyd II & I don't want to hear about Floyd fighting anyone else but Cotto (unless it's a tune-up to the Cotto fight)... I want to see the best fighting the best period! I'm just saying in this case, his has the potential to be Biggest Fight in the last 20 yrs (yes bigger than Trinidad v De La Hoya & Tyson v Holyfield) 2 undefeated fighters, both (semi) house-hold names, so Y rush it?
We all know Floyd is about the money, but most of what he says you have to take with a "grain of salt". Honestly Floyd has no reason for NOT fighting him, but when you can 20mil + on a "easy" fight against someone who is popular & have already beaten then Y not take that fight? It sucks for the fans, but it makes GOOD BUSINESS SENSE for Floyd! It's sad to say, but i guess that's all that matter to Mr. Money these days...:nonono:
"Back in the day" boxers fought the best no matter how much they were getting paid, b/c they wanted to PROVE themselves against the ELITE, but in the days of greedy promoters & networs trying to "milk" the fighters, you don't see it as often! I DEFINTELY feel where everyone is coming from, but we have to put this in the proper perspective!
ok, if the fight happens before the end of 2009, i'll bet whatever points you want that maywether loses the fight....
To quote Mayweather Jr This is "Easy Money"...
How quickly u have changed your tone. Plain and simple, as fans, we should demand nothing less than the best fighting the best. Problem is, some fans get too involved in whats in the best interests of certain fighters. Thats none of our business, nor should it be our concern. These fighters have attorneys, advisors, promoters to deal with that.
Read my first post again... Ive never said it was ok for floyd to wrestle, dance, or anything besides boxing! What I said was this is a BUSINESS & to fully maximize the potential of this fight, they need to wait it out for at least another year!
