If Cotto really is "the man" to dethrone Mayweather, as many have alluded to then why not let Cotto keep fighting to gain exposure & experience? In all reality Cotto is not a household name & no one knows who he is outside of boxing, but on the flip-side Floyd is a SUPERSTAR!! If the fight was signed today it is a HUGE MEGA FIGHT...at least for Hardcore Fans & some casual fans, but say around this time next yr, if Cotto wins his next few fights (impressively) & gets more national exposure (advertising, other ventures out of boxing) & Floyd is still out there (undefeated) in the mix then the fight becomes A MUST SEE SPORTING EVENT!
It is a BIG difference between the 2 & Floyd understands the business of it! He is just simple waiting for Cotto to gain more "steam" so the risk will be worth the reward... Just for the record WHEN the fight comes off I got Mayweather by 11th T.K.O.
Havent been here long so I dont know your mentality completely. Let me ask you this, when Floyd fought Zab, did you have a problem with that fight.
No one did. People only started having a problem with the fight being made after Floyd won.
The same old story can be said for Ricky Hatton.
Floyd ducking Cotto.
get fuckin real.
Cotto fans................ your boys just waitin in line. have patience. Mayweather will buss him up all in good time.
you kids and your goddamned hip hop rap talk.
So if Floyd fought Gomez, its ok with you seeing he is famous to the casual fan?
as long as it is a set up for a bigger fight. now man, im beginning to tolerate you a little more so i hope you dont ruin it by ignoring what im about to type.
Cotto and Margarito are both Top Rank fighters. The plan is for Cotto and Margo to meet in a later in the year. THAT is why Arum is having Margo rematch Cintron and Cotto fight Gomez on the same night, on the same card. Both Margo and Cotto are supposed to win their fights so that THEY can meet up. Regardless of whether Cotto fights gomez or not, he will STILL be facing a serious threat in Margarito or Cintron. Gomez will just be a sparring partner for Cotto so I find it incredibly remarkable how people are tripping (mostly floyd fans) that Cotto is fighting Gomez as if thats the only fight he will have this year. Gomez is a tune up for Margarito. Gomez will most likely fight 3 times this year. So how is it a disgrace that one of those times will be against Gomez? How many fights does YOUR favorite fighter have each year?
Anyway, If Floyd wanted to fight Gomez before taking on Cotto/Cintron/Margarito/Williams/Mosley, WHOEVER who is gonna fight after DLH, that would be more than fine with me because I know he will be having serious fight regardless.
Awaits the winner? He could have fought either of those guys before they decided to fight one another, same can be said about Floyd's fights, that they are stay busy fights till bigger fights. So many other top welters out there to stay busy with. Call it what it is, its a way to keep your title in a low risk fight and make money.
I explain it pretty thoroughly here in this thread at the same time exposing the hypocrisy of some of this site's most incredibly fanatical fans.

nawe man, after the hatton fight, i think it was merchant who asked him about his plans and mayweather said the rematch was the only possibility, if not, it was a 2 year break.
I don't remember that happening. He was asked about Cotto and he said that he aint trying to fight no welterweights and that he has done what he wanted to accomplish and it was time to take a break and be a promoter or something of that nature.
Of course his previous Pre-Hatton comments regarding a Oscar rematch still count so technically you're right. But ultimately it's Oscar's choice and he made Floyd an offer for a rematch May3rd, 2008 but Floyd turned it down unless it was in September and Oscar agreed.
2501 u want want me to take it down..??
We havent ARgued in awhile so if its hurting your feeling I take it down..
but i have been getting green K for it though...
:cop:
Ask yourself One Question...
The Question is Who wouldnt fight Oscar...??
If Oscar ask Cotto to fight would cotto fight him..??
If Oscar ask to Margarito fight would Margarito fight him..??
If Oscar ask Manny Paciquo to fight would Manny Fight him..??
Oscar Stands Right Behind Floyd,Roy,Bernard as one of the best in his generation..
He has earned He status and earned the right to fight whoever he wants whenever he wants....
So has Floyd now....
Cotto hasnt earned it yet, he is no position to offer a fight to Floyd..
Floyd has to offer the fight to Cotto
Just like Oscar had to Offer the fight To Floyd...
U have to earned your respect and Status in boxing you just cant ask for...
I totally agree with you, but i was responding to the poster who posted that Floyd is ONLY interested in fighting "GREAT FIGHTERS" Yes, Oscar WAS great in his day, but those days are far gone. He's nothing but a leprachaun now. If you're lucky enough to catch him and land a fight with him, then you're rich. I would'nt call a fighter who's lost 4 of his last 5 fights, still great!
That was after he defeated Oscar. He said he was "retired" and then Hatton came calling. He knocked him out and said he was gonna take break.

Oscar came calling? If i recall correctly, it was Floyd who was screaming out for a rematch. He said unless he gets a rematch with Oscar, he's going to stay retired. So much for the much needed break. He's fighting Bigshow at the end of the month.

Of course it's no secret that he was open to a Oscar rematch, as previously said, who is he to refuse the biggest money fight possible?

damn son, that shrine you have dedicated to me in your sig keeps getting bigger and bigger every day!
Is that why he's rematching Oscar? A guy who lost 4 of his last 5 fights. Does that sound like a "great" fighter to you? Yes, Oscar WAS great in his day, but nowaday's, he's nothing more than a part-time fighter/promoter.
Facts are facts.

That's a pure money fight. He was gonna take a break but Oscar came calling. Who is Floyd to refuse the biggest money fight possible?
Cotto would take it it was offered to him.

I don't think Floyd categorizes himself as the welterweight champion. Everywhere he goes, he is addressed as the p4p best fighter in the world. Like Hopkins at light-heavy, he just happens to be at 147. He wants big fights against great fighters regardless of their ranking. Is Cotto considered a great fighter right now?
Is B-Hop fighting top light-heavyweight contenders or young deserviing 175lb title holders like Chad Dawson? No he just fought the Top 3 (at that time) P4P fighter in Winky Wright and is about to fight another Top P4P fighter in Joe Calzaghe who is like Ricky Hatton is moving up in weight to fight the champion.

I promise all of you, if Floyd wins the Oscar rematch, and Cotto doesn't lose this year, I GARUNTEE Floyd will fight Cotto.
You guys are so fucking impatient.

blahblahblahblah!!!!!!!! Excuses, excuses, excuses. I don't Know who fears Cotto the most, Floyd, or floyd's fans!!! E Z :owned:
