I thought Hopkins didnt start to do anything until the 9th round, and by then it was too late. Taylor tired a little, then B. Hop did some work, but he'd already lost the fight in my opinion. He can say what he wants, he waited too long to do something, and lost by 2 rounds at least.
He should have retired many years ago, but if he wants to keep fighting, let him get more blows to the head, but he shouldn't be forced to not fight or be banned. It's HIS decision to do what he wants.
Rahman
Rahman was consistently bad, where as Barrett had some terrible moments, and some good moments. Rahman was slow, never landed a clean right hand, got rocked by some of Barrett's punches, and was telegraphing his big and slow right hand.
He gets KOed by Vitali in the same fashion he got it by Lewis in the rematch.
I don't know all that much about Valuev, I hear he's got power, but Donald has lots of experience, a good boxer, and a very good chin. Should be an interesting "minor" fight.
has wladamir klitschko ever been counted out? no
has he risen from every career knockdown? yes
so why is his chin is widely criticized when others who have been completely KO'ed continue to get your full respect??
Great point.
LOL...I'm sure that happens when you have 4 languages in your head.
I had too much trouble learning Spanish in HS. I couldn't imagine having 2 more to learn.
I have great respect for his masterful skills and talent. Guinn was dumb and fought on the inside, just like Toney loves. Toney doesn't have heavyweight power, and will to any good boxer who stays at a distance from him.
I think both their stocks rise. Peter showed he has a great chin, which proved me wrong, and Wlad can recover from knockdowns. Even though he got knocked down twice from blows to the back of his head, he took a few on the chin. This proves that it's a mental thing with him, and I think he does have stamina problems, which need to be taken care of. Very weak legs.
Other than the 3 knockdowns, Peter got dominated and lost every round. With some boxing skills and better training, Peter will do lots of damage in the HW division.
Chinny Chin Chin
This is opinion based but people say a weak chin is when you (A)get knocked down and you don't get up, or (B) say it's when you get knocked down numerous times.
Wlad has been knocked down numerous times, but Lewis was knocked down and he didn't get up twice. That's the difference here.
Or maybe he speaks slowly, calmly, and softly and keeps his words simple because Wlad doesn't speak English very fluently, and so Wlad would understand what he's saying?
Peter was clearly stunned by that left hook, then again later by a right hand. I also wondered why he didn't pummel Peter to finish him off. I thought Peter was there for the taking, he was hurt, stumbling around, and was throwing all arm punches that were slow and inaccurate. Maybe he did listen to Manny too much, but it would have been better for him if he would have dropped Peter in that round.
peter by KO, Tko
Briggs gets ahead early with his skills and movement, then gets lazy and tired (just like his last number of fights), Peter catches him in the middle rounds.
I thought this Soloman was gonna wear himself out by the 5th round and just tip over, granted I didn't watch the 2nd half of the fight, I see he survived. From what I watched, Soloman was just throwing, and not hitting Winky very good, but he did get hit as evident by his face. Winky picked his spots, landing more precise shots, and more power shots. From what i heard, Winky won by alot.
I also watched the 'Hopkins/Taylor 2' fight for the first time, and I scored it the same as the judges. I thought Hopkins may have won the 1st round, but I had Taylor winning rounds 2-6, with Hopkins winning 7 and 8, then back and fourth for the most part the rest of the way. I had the 11th for Taylor, 12th for Hopkins. Good fight though.
Next Step
Heal up, recover, train hard, then come back in early 2006. There's still too many unanswered things, still things left to prove on his part.
How many times have we seen a fighter fight a bunch of "non-contenders" and make his way to a title shot? Maskaev is in the same boat as Toney and Rahman, because they both did the same thing.
Also, didn't the WBC vote on the whole "who should be ranked #1" thing?
