Wladimir vs. Peter: Sometimes History Repeats Itself
17.09.05 - By Jim Amato: Back in the late 60's a heavyweight from Fresno, CA., named Mac Foster had reeled off something like 25 straight KO's. It was even rumored that he had flattened Sonny Liston in a sparring session. He rose to the #1 spot in the heavyweight rankings behind champion Joe Frazier. They matched Mac with the popular long time contender Jerry Quarry. What happened? Jerry took Mac to school. He out boxed Mac and put on a counter punching clinic. Foster was felled in the sixth round. Fast forward thirty five years. Sam Peter is today's Mac Foster. He is a tremendous hitter with a ferocious reputation. Will Wladimir Klitschko play the role of Jerry Quarry? At one time Wlad was considered a better prospect then big brother Vitaly. Then the chin gave in and now fans wonder if he can put it all back together.
This should be a very interesting match up. Wladimir is quite nimble for a man of his size. He has a quick and accurate jab. He also packs a pretty good wallop in that right hand of his. Peter is very strong and has amazing power. Nevertheless he has yet to meet a fighter the caliber of Wladimir.
Sam Peter has to be afforded a puncher's chance but on paper, as long as Wlad's chin does not cave in Peter may come up on the short end in this one.
has wladamir klitschko ever been counted out? no
has he risen from every career knockdown? yes
so why is his chin is widely criticized when others who have been completely KO'ed continue to get your full respect??
Great point.
LOL.
Do yourself a favor, go to Box Rec, and look up:
Ross Purity
Corrie Sanders
Lamon Brewster
I think it's the fact that he's lost to such meidocre opposition that draws most of the critisism.
Add to that he's never rematched any of the guys who beat him, and had his older brother do so in 2 of the 3 instnaces, and it becomes clearer.
Trying to get up after getting knocked down 4 times by Corrie Sanders is admirable. Losing to Sanders, Purity and Brewster is not. Sure these guys are big punchers, but when you contrast it with the HYPE surrounding Wlad before and even now after the reccent losses, and you can see why it's brought up so often.
Ive been to box rec and im very well aware of wlads losses but thanks. james douglas, kevin mcbride and danny williams arent very big names either and i know if tyson wouldve fought wlad instead of kevin mcbride youd have picked tyson by 1st round KO.
as far as the rematches go, a rematch with purity would be pointless and a rematch with sanders would be also, at the time it wouldve made sense but corrie sanders had bigger fish to fry. the bottom line being that none of the guys that beat him were willing to offer one at the time.
Was Lennox Lewis counted out against Hasim Rahman? yes
Was Hasim Rahman counted out in the rematch? yes
was mike tyson brutally ko'ed and counted out against buster douglas? yes
has wladamir klitschko ever been counted out? no
has he risen from every career knockdown? yes

The difference betqeen Quarry and Wlad is that Quarry was a hardass with a granite chin and balls of steel who wouldn't flinch if you shot him in the gut with a 12 gauge.
Hey Achilles,
Where you been?

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was ironic.
The history of one over excited Nut Hugger driven to create multiple threads about the same topic is a fine example of history repeating itself.
YES i totaly called him doing that
first of all, you fucked this up by comparing sam peter to a white guy...(assuming mac was white. since ive never met a brutha named mac, lol)
Mac Foster is African American and was a pretty good fighter evn after Quarry schooled him. He went 15 with Ali

I found that very interesting, that guy that fought Quarry finished with a record of 30-6-0 with 30 KO's. And whats even more impressive is that out of those 30 KO's only 1 was by TKO, the rest were all clean KO's, talk about power.
