never liked wwe even as a kid it was obvious it was fake and wasn't very entertaining. MMA was interesting at first but the pace is too slow and most practitioners aren't that good. The good strikers are sub par if you watch boxing or kickboxing and the wrestling is often used when they're too tired, resulting in them just hugging and breathing on each other for 10 minutes or those little punches that toddlers do when they fight. I like watching boxing most k-1 comes second then muay thai/lethwei fights. just way more entertaining deeper talent pools way more technicians that actually know what they're doing so the competition is always at the highest caliber, although boxing is getting worse at having the best fight the best, this year has been great so far as far as matchups go for boxing
Supporting GGG because he has the skills and gets too much ****. I think Canelo gets way too much credit and needs to be knocked down a peg. I don't really see all this improvement ppl talk about when it comes to Canelo he's been the same fighter his entire career. GGG has shown more versatility in the ring and has been painted as a one dimensional fighter that depends on his power. It's time people understand that those with power are able to sue it because of the techniques they've accrued through their hard work and experience and not just their god given knock out power.
Hope I don't get flak for this but I feel the comeback win was as impressive as Joshua's comeback fight vs Ruiz. They both improved drastically in their game plans to completely dominant their opponent in the rematch. Reminds me a bit of how Lewis always avenged his losses with newfound savagery and skill.
I highly doubt it has to do with Mikey being scared to fight Loma. Especially since Linares was able to drop Loma and show he is vulnerable. I really believe Mikey just wants to take a challenge that he feels he can win. Apparently he sees a flaw in Spence that he can capitalize on.
DO you have any idea on what it could possibly be? Mikey's power isn't exactly earth shattering and he can be hit, he can definitely box, I've always liked him, it's why i slightly favor him to beat Loma, but his style vs Spence doesn't rlly match up seeing as how Spence can take it as well as dish it out and overwhelm his opponents with his power and precision to the body. It's textbook and it's hard to really plan against it unless you're very slick and have a good chin to boot. Which are all untested at WW with Mikey.
Maybe because the Lomachenko fight would be harder to make? Maybe because the Spence fight is easier to make and he views it as a bigger challenge that will bring out the best out of him? Mikey clearly believes in his skill set and thinks he can out box Spence to a victory. He probably thinks because Spence gets touched up some he will be able to do the same and just out IQ him all night long. Will that happen? Probably not, but he wants that challenge and more power to him. Mikey just won the 140 pound title last year and would be the favorite to beat some, if not most top WWs so this isn't as big of a mismatch as some think. It is like 75/25 Spence, but I think he will be tested for as long as the fight lasts.
He can at least try to make the Loma fight happen before rushing up two weight classes, right? I just don't see the point at all. Sure you can want to challenge yourself it just seems sudden.
What is a lie? There is nothing about my post that was a lie.
And if Mikey fights Spence in February, why can't he make the Lomachenko fight afterwards? Who the hell cares it won't be for the undisputed LW title? Winner would be THE guy anyways.
Again for me the thing that stops the Loma fight from happening is how Mikey loses. Spence has won his last 11 fights by KO and has a won 90% of his fights by ko/tko. Mikey's chin hasn't rlly been tested, Spence could potentially ruin him.
And if Spence starts putting a beating on Mikey, his corner can take him out. Spence isn't a big one punch KO artist, so unlikely he gets a Bundu type of KO here. He ends up grinding you out. It will be on Robert when it becomes ugly to pull him out.
But again, if Mikey went up after the Lipinets/Broner fights, would people be talking about him getting ruined or him jumping up two weight classes? The man is a champion just one weight class below WW. Is it a tough task? Absolutely, but lets see it play out. Garcia is a legitimate top 5ish talent in the game with textbook fundamentals. This is a smart SMART boxing family. His dad took three fighters from scratch and made them world champions. May be the first to ever accomplish that. Vargas/Robert/Mikey from day one were trained by Eduardo Garcia and became champions. So this is a boxing family with them being lifers. They wouldn't take this fight if they thought Mikey was going to get destroyed like everyone else does.
Neither lipinets nor broner have the size or the proven power Spence has though. And if this fight is about pride i doubt they'd pull Mikey out if he's being grinded out, not only that fathers are notoriously bad at pulling their sons out of a beating in boxing, it's why they nearly banned father son corners.
I'd say one of the risks is getting an orbital bone broken. He can take a page from Crawford and unify lightweight before moving up two weight classes to take on one of the biggest punchers.
He could try to make it after this fight too. Worst case, they can make it at 140 if Garcia can no longer make 135. Lomachenko fight wasn't happening this year or early next year anyways even if he tried to make the fight. So I don't get when people say if he fights Spence, then the Lomachenko fight is gone. That's not true. Could it be harder to make then? Possibly, but not out of the realm of possibility.
But this could be a potentially career ending fight. He destroyed Brook, who is not only larger but I'd say is a slicker boxer than Mikey. It'd be safer to defend the belts he has and FIght Loma, who isn't as devastating a puncher and who dominates the p4p rankings, and I think Mikey has way better odds at beating Loma than he does Spence.
It's simple. Mikey going to 147 to fight Spence makes him a martyr. He can lose to Spence and his career will not lose any momentum. He can go back to 135 or 140 and claim to be a warrior because he stepped up to the boogey-man at 147. Everyone expects him to lose. He can pick up where he left off at the top of a lower weight class.
Now, if he loses to Loma, his mystique is shattered and he's exposed. Loma claims dominance at 135 and Mikey has a more difficult time shaking off the stigma of that loss. It's really a matter of pride and perception from the boxing public. Even though Spence is the more dangerous fight, Mikey fears a loss to Loma more than Spence because of how it looks to fans and the boxing community as a whole.
Eh, I hope that isn't the case. I don't like this trend that Brook and Khan seem to have started. I didn't give them much credit for doing it, it was and is just plain stupid imo
If you strike something with a 5lb hammer vs a 10lb hammer with more surface area, the amount of force is higher with the heavier hammer but spread over a wider area. A punch is using a lever (your fist i.e hammer head at the end of your arm i.e the stick holding the hammer head) that's why guys with longer. Also MMA guys have weaker chins/defense vs a boxer who learns how to roll and take a punch.
There's a difference between intrinsic worth and that person holding something for ransom. If Wilder wasn't the champ with the WBC AJ wouldn't be offering 40m to fight him. Wilder made it clear he'll only accept the fight at the highest price he could possibly leverage which was 50/50 knowing Hearn and AJ wer desperate to unify. Wilder's worth will never approach AJs unless he beats AJ soundly and is able to sell out stadiums fighting mandatories.
It's how the energy is being transferred into the skull. A smaller surface area causes more local damage rather than piercing concussive damage that forces the brain to rattle around in the skull. That's why you see more cuts and superficial damage and fractures of the facial bones in mma. With a larger surface area it's evenly distributed to a larger area of the skull forcing the brain to move more. So the more accurate you are with mma gloves the easier to get the ko when you hit pivotal points like the chin or temple but the odds of hitting those buttons in order to get the brain moving as often and violently as boxing gloves is lower. Larger surface area easier to get the head to move in a way that damages the brain, smaller surface area causes more damage to the structure of the skull and cause superficial damage unless you hit a pivotal weakpoint.
Haven't really seen much improvement. Mayweather managed to walk him down at times cause he's always waiting to counter and ends up on the ropes, it's continued to happen in pretty much every fight since. No idea why he wouldn't atleast improve his ability to fight off the backfoot or atleast not be so transparent that he's looking to lay back and wait to counter with his right hand.
I don't like that you group Hispanics in there. I almost never see them whiine about bias/oppression on here.
Only one group consistently pushes that BS and you threw Hispanics in there to make it look more legit.
Some people have quoted Hispanic fighters/coaches and lumped them in, even if they did, so what? There's plenty of racism to go around in the boxing community, don't hesitate to join the party. :luvbed:
It's not that there's blatant bias by the institutions it's what people see from other fans. Currently it's how the table's been flipped on Wilder. In what other world can someone fail a test for PEDs and his opposition is the one being referred to as a coward and a *****, for turning down the fight? I haven't seen anything like this in my life.
I agree, one of the best boxers. Great heart, amazing skills, fearless. Curious though, I've heard a lot of people accuse him of steroid use can anyone let me know where these accusations come from?
Yeah that part is sad
Even then it's still odd the fight isn't outright cancelled. Why isn't Povetkin getting routed by the WBC? All athletes were notified months in advance that melodnium would be added to the ban list in January of 2016, yet they still hesitate to bring down the hammer. It may be evidence for some institutionalized bias but I wouldn't be quick to say racism, I like to know the hard facts before inserting a reason, but I'm logic oriented like that, I can't say the same for those that are more emotional about this stuff.
Cause a lot of people really wanted to see this fight so they're willing to overlook a seemingly small amount of a PED and have Wilder take the risk. We're animals we want to see someone get their head punched off.
It could be training and water retention is the reason. Wait for VADA to clarify. If he has knowingly taken it recently then he deserves a ban of course. I personally doubt this.
Why do you doubt this though? When has VADA been under so much scrutiny because someone pissed hot. He got caught, end of story.
No idea how anyone thinks Canelo will win this fight. He doesn't create opportunities he waits for them. GGG's entire game plan is to create opportunities to go to work on his opponent is on the ropes. Have you noticed pretty much efverytime GGG scored a KD his opponent is on the ropes? One huge bad habit that I've hated about Canelo is that he backs down so easily cause he's waiting for the counter punch and it doesn't take much pressure either for Canelo to back into his shell. Fcking Chavez jr got Canelo on the ropes several times throwing like 5 punches per round. Liam Smith also found success cornering Canelo on the ropes. This bad habit will allow GGG to eat him alive cause that's where he gets his best work done. Throwing the uppercut through the guard and throwing the left hook to the bbody, that's been his go to combo for opening up his KOs and I haven't seen any improvement from Canelo that convinces me he'll be able to survive on the ropes long enough to not get Koed.
IF..... " it's much more about what they do in the ring "..... then how can you possibly "draw a parallel between Canelo and Lemieux" ?
They both tend to depend more on their power rather than creating opportunities and tend to be more on the defensive and depend on countering when getting outboxed. So I'd expect GGG to approach the fight the same way he approached Lemieux, respect their power and use the jab to pick them apart.
I have this as an even fight. Canelo has fought the much better comp, and has learned from them all. Golovkin is bigger, and has a great amateur background, so he has seen a lot also, but I believe Canelo's far deeper pro experience will pull him trough. Golovkin can win also, but 4 to 1, no way. even 2 to 1 is too wide. Especially when we do not know how GGG will respond really, to the first top fighter he has faced, he has barely broken the top ten once or twice.
Canelo and GGG are pretty much the same size and Canelo has never really had a decisive win against his best opposition. I haven't seen much development from Canelo as I'd like, he's still flatfooted and he never really controls the fight, he's way too opportunistic, he doesn't create his opportunities, that's the sign of a boxer with little experience to me. GGG howeer Has much more experience overall as a boxer, pro experince doesnt really translate to your actual skillset. He still comes up short to GGG in terms of tact and the very basics of boxing. Just because Canelo is regarded as a top fighter doesn't necessarrily make him one, to me it's much more about what they do in the ring rather than who've they've fought. If you look at the fighters themselves the edge definitely goes to GGG. Better footwork, better jab, better at creating and taking advantage of opportunities, proven power in both hands against Middleweights and over 300 amatuer bouts guarantees he's fought Canelo's fighting style. I'd even draw a parallel between Canelo and Lemieux.
