Why not stay at lightweight and defend the belts then unify with Loma? What's the point in taking such a risky fight with one of the biggest active Welterweights?
100% agree.
But tell this to Mikey fans and you're a hater. But Salido is Lomachnekos daddy because he beat Lomachenko and Mikey dominated salido.
I dont get these fangirls. That's not even what happened. Mikey was offered the easy way out and he took it because it was getting tough.
While I think Mikey vs Loma would be competitive I'm feeling that there a very good chance Lomachenko could no mas Mikey. If Lomachenko finds his groove NO WAY would Mikey sit and be embarrassed for 12 rounds.
No one thought rigo would quit so anything can happen
I thought Rigo would quit to be honest. I don't think Mikey would quit against Loma but I do think he'd lose a very wide decision. His feet are very slow, he doesn't move his head much and his offense is predictable and repetitive. The angles and footwork would be too much.
Mikey's fanboys are a weird bunch. Almost cult like (much like Rigo's). I think it's a lot of anti-Loma guys (much like Rigo's). They are fiercely loyal to their guy though and will back anything he does but they'll go away when he loses (much like Rigo's).
I think Rigondeaux is a better fighter than Mikey for what it's worth but a harder match for Loma if he can enforce his size. He'll do better than Rigo but he'll lose wide if he fought him.
When he quit against Salido and took an out when the fight was getting tough showed me what his character is likely like in a tough match. Compare that to Marquez who'd been butted, was up big and the ref said "I can stop the fight you're ahead", Marquez reaction was to knock the guy out and finish the fight. Mikey's reaction was "Yeah I'll take that. This is getting a little too hot for me".
That's why Marquez is a great fighter who'll be remembered and loved and Mikey is a good fighter who'll be forgotten and not loved.

no way mikey is scared of loma, im sure he thinks he wins that fight and loma wont hurt him, spence will hurt him, he should stay and unify next year and then go for spence, thats sensible
One of my biggest problems with Mikey, I like the guy however, is that the dude never showed heart
I love Mike Tyson, but it's the same thing there too. A good boxer who just looks like they dont have the heart and grit to dig deep.
Mikey is a business man straight up. I dont get how his fans dont see this. I agree with you 100% on the IF he fights spence he retires shortly after. He ain't draining back down to 135 and Lomachenko isnt going to 140.
Mikey is robbing us fans of seeing the fight we want.

I think it's a long shot as well but he seems to think he can replicate what Floyd did. If he beats Spence and Manny this year that would be 2 really good PPV paydays.
I'd still rather him have fight Commey and then Loma.
Yeah I’d rather him stay at 135. I personally think it’s a very dumb move to fight Spence but he’ll look like a genius if he wins I guess. Mikey doesnt have Floyd or Pac’s frame or Mosley’s, he’s not blessed physically like them.
I don’t see him being strong or durable enough to keep Spence off.
IF he fights Spence which I don't think he will. I think he'll get a bit of a methodical beating and quit around the middle rounds.
I think he'll then fight one or two more fights like he's been having like Lipinets for a belt and then retire. If he fights Spence in February, I think he'll be retired within a year of it.

It’s a win win for Mikey...if he does well enough to lose a close decision...his stock rises...he gets dropped 4 times and gets up 3 times...his stock rises...he can’t lose no matter how you cut it...everybody already got him getting washed and iced...all he gotta do is show up and be himself...no pressure whatsoever...the pressure is on Spence to destroy Mikey
Respect to Mikey!!...big time!!
only problem here is the damage he might take during the process.. no point of having your stock rise if you are retarded already.
People also forget if loma vs mikey happened now Mikey is legit B side. Lomachenko brings more money and more views than Mikey.
Mikey is trying to gain all the leverage he can. Some people here think he could be damaged goods, but I doubt it. I think hes smart enough to protect himself. Not everyone who fights a higher weight breaks their orbital bone or is damaged for life. Spence by TKO and Mikey will be okay.

He's limited on options. He's not fought an elite opponent yet and wants to make big bucks. He's obviously not going to fight a Top Rank fighter so his options are at 147 in the PBC stable. I have my doubts he'll fight Spence. I think he'll wait to see if Pacquaio-Mayweather II falls through and see if he can get Pacquaio.
If he is serious about Spence my gut feeling is that Mikey is close to retiring and is looking for a cashout so why not do it against a guy who's supposed to wreck you? Win and you've done something great and can milk an extra big payday or two or lose and you have a (legit) excuse. His insistence on cherry picking titles in divisions but not defending them or trying to prove to be #1 in the divisions kind of show this so he can fall on "I'm a four weight world champion". Hey, Broner is also a 4 weight "champion" too.

It's simple. Mikey going to 147 to fight Spence makes him a martyr. He can lose to Spence and his career will not lose any momentum. He can go back to 135 or 140 and claim to be a warrior because he stepped up to the boogey-man at 147. Everyone expects him to lose. He can pick up where he left off at the top of a lower weight class.
Now, if he loses to Loma, his mystique is shattered and he's exposed. Loma claims dominance at 135 and Mikey has a more difficult time shaking off the stigma of that loss. It's really a matter of pride and perception from the boxing public. Even though Spence is the more dangerous fight, Mikey fears a loss to Loma more than Spence because of how it looks to fans and the boxing community as a whole.
Right? But nah. Apparently people like myself and you are Mikey haters for pointing out this reality.
I think he shoulda Unified Lightweight over Loma and faced Spence later but at the same time, if he wins, he may be arguably the best fighter of his era
He can at least try to make the Loma fight happen before rushing up two weight classes, right? I just don't see the point at all. Sure you can want to challenge yourself it just seems sudden.
Stop it. The fight is at 147. He’s won two titles at 140 so how is he jumping up two weight classes?
DO you have any idea on what it could possibly be? Mikey's power isn't exactly earth shattering and he can be hit, he can definitely box, I've always liked him, it's why i slightly favor him to beat Loma, but his style vs Spence doesn't rlly match up seeing as how Spence can take it as well as dish it out and overwhelm his opponents with his power and precision to the body. It's textbook and it's hard to really plan against it unless you're very slick and have a good chin to boot. Which are all untested at WW with Mikey.
I honestly do not see Mikey winning, unless he can box Spence ears off somehow and keep a stiff jab in his face all night. Time him when he gets in. Maybe he sees a habit of Spence that he can time with a specific punch, but size difference has to play a factor.

i think he has no shot at all...mayweather knew he was a star and used the persona to make money.... mikey is to bland and doesnt have the charisma to make the casual fan wanna buy his fights.
I cant go to a damn gym in Southern Ca without hearing Mikey Garcia and RGBA. He even has a billboard by my house. But I will agree he isn't a household name or ppv star BUT why do you think he is taking a risk against Errol Spence? Like you said, Mayweather had the persona that Mikey does not have so Mikey is going about it the hard way. Why is that hard for people to understand or respect?
The general opinion is that there is no shame in losing to Spence...but this **** can have an impact on his health and career.
Okay, if it can have an impact on his health and career, then he is taking a big risk here and it can't be perceived as a win-win. Canelo fighting Floyd who is smaller and a light puncher at 154 was a win-win for him as even if he lost it wasn't going to hurt his stock all that much...Which proved to be true. But when you say a mans health is at risk, then it no longer becomes a win-win for that particular fighter.
