Instead of Gamboa, Rios dodged a bullet.
Gamboa is way too fast and too slick for a plodding Rios.
He would of done 10x the outboxing that Acosta did in the first half.
Plus, under Emmanuel Steward's tutelage... wow.
Rios would of been handed his first loss.
But Brandon has a new bullet coming at him, Mile High Mike Alvarado.
Let's see what he can do.
bro who's that chick?
Donaire, I like Yuri but He is easy to hit and he aint face no one as skilled as Donaire.
HBO released compubox numbers like a week ago showing that from all the active elite boxers, Gamboa is the most difficult to hit, right after Mayweather. Mayweather has the record with only 16% connection on him. Gamboa is second with only 20% average connection on him.
Now, to be fair, Donaire is not far behind with only 21%.
I just read a comment that said Gamboa's defense is only second to Floyd.
Are you serious?! Gamboa's defensive stats look great because his opponents get blitzed to death and can't throw anything back while getting hit with everything, including the kitchen sink.
I think Nonito's power will carry up. Nonito isn't a true 118 fighter. He is obviously bigger than everyone there. And that's after he cuts weight. He's still bigger than everyone. He is most likely a natural 130lb guy. I don't know his exact walk around weight but he sacrifices a lot of useful muscle and weight to fight at those smaller weight classes.
Nonito's skill level is higher than Yuri's. That just isn't debatable. Out of all fighters today, Nonito is top 5 in skill. We are talking Mayweather, Hopkins, Ward as company. Combine that with his ring IQ and power. I don't see Yuri winning.
Even with his recent fights where he has calmed down his style. All that goes out the window when you get hit with a sledgehammer. He will revert to his natural swing for the fences style when he gets popped with a hard right straight. Then from then on, just wait for the left hook. Cause it will come and it will be over when it lands.
And your point is? Offense is also a great defense. At the end of the day he doesn't get hit much, hence he has one of the best defenses in the game, no matter how you try to turn things around.
Also, Yuri is good at what he does. Most people with such crazy offensive style get hit back a lot. Gamboa is hard to find even when doing so. The stats don't lie, that's why Gamboa's face is always like brand new with tags even after a 12 rounder, as his boy Pretty Boy.

How is Nonito a more complete fighter?
Offensively, it's hard to go against Yuri. Yuri has one of the best offensive arsenal in the game. Nonito's offense is also top class, but it's hard to go against Yuri in that department.
Now I don't know what's up with haters criticizing Gamboa's defense. HBO did a compubox analysis of the elite fighters a few weeks ago to determine who were the best defensive playas in the game, and Yuri is second, right after Floyd. In other words, his defense is not only good, it's practically the best. Floyd gets hit only 16% of the time and Yuri is second with only 20%. Now to be fair, Nonito is 3rd with only 21%.
Furthermore, Gamboa is faster, has more pop and has decided to start using his ring IQ in the last few fights. Both of them are smart fighters, but when you compare their abilities, it's hard to go against Yuri.
but the lack of defense of gamboa and lopez is what makes this fight interesting...someones going to sleep
Gamboa's defense is one of the best among elite fighters when you look at a recent HBO analysis. Actually, they say he's the second best, right after Mayweather. Mayweather gets connected only 16% of the time, and Gamboa is second with only 20%. Donaire isn't fair behind at 21%.
My estimation is that Juanma is somewhere around 86% lol
what's the point of having drug testing when the fight is a month and a half away and one side still hasn't started testing
Rigo's the ***** for stalling and not signing his VADA contract.
Posted from Boxingscene.com App for Android
the drug testing issue has been brought now.. not before... and you don't know much about steroids and testing, do you? steroids arent a permanent miracle. they will help you only when you take them. if you can't detect them in tests, good chances are you haven't taken them in a longggg time... if you haven't taken them in a long time, it's like you never took them.
how does he know he didnt?
how do you know he did?
the fight is less than 2 months away and Rigo still hasn't started testing. That's the bottom line.
I cant stand people who jump into **** without knowing wth is going on.

dude, you realize you have a Philippine flag in your sig & you don't look excited about the only exciting fight your countryman could possibly have? what's up with all that denial? if it was rigo in nonito's shoes every cuban would be calling him a b*tch by now
rigo received the VADA contract awhile back.......it's only NOW that he's making this excuse for wanting a spanish version...
lol at philipinos and their groupie nonsense... how's that an excuse when he's signing the agreement? and are you rigo's gf? if not, how do you know he received the agreement a whiiiiiile back? And even if he did, he never said he wasn't going to sign it. And even if he's requesting a spanish version now, what's wrong with that? how's that an excuse? Do i need to keep pointing at more stupidities coming out of that smart post of yours? lol
LOL, I'm not Donaire's wife. Women have no boxing knowledge and from my post I'm extremely knowledgeable.
Dude, no offense but you sound like a retard... I'm not saying this like an insult, just as a fact lol I think you're the one who said something like "Rigo works with Heredia, because Rigo won't take pictures with non-celibrities, so if he has a picture with Heredia then they necessarily work together", it was you, right? That's the funniest post I've ever read, thank you for the good laugh:)
So retard, or troll, but one of these definitely is lol
EDIT: hahahah just read your last post, you don't cease to amaze me, im a fan +1
I never said anything that your quoting me on, so your the retard here. You obviously took time out of your day to respond to me so I do mean something to you, you jackass.
dont get mad at me, i wasn't sure that's why i asked & i said i was a fan of u!!:) then it was the other filipino, the one with a lot of colors in his avatar, very funny dude, i'm also a fan of him.
I agree with all of you on something tho, no need to convince me or anything... that signature he gave really fked his chances to pull anything good out of it. However, we don't know how this happened, he's been unhappy with Top Rank for some time, if he signed it was because of a manipulation of some sort. He will talk himself very soon and we will know.
Btw, how is Gamboa acting like a victim when he has not said shiet yet? Everything you read here was posted by me. This could be an invention of my own for all u know :boxing: (dont worry, it is not lol)
Lol at all the ******s in this website with no clue. How is he acting like a diva? Top Rank has been doing a ****ty job with him forever now, not giving him the good fights he wanted and he's in beef with them for that same reason. It's easy to say "why did he sign then" when you don't know what's happening behind the closed doors.
give me the break the guy has 9 fights (Rigo) he needs to earn his shot
The guy is the world champion, dumbass lol
a champion in need to earn his shot smh
The rumor is Gamboa has some contractual beef with his promoters... he's like snobbing them or something like that, he's not taking this fight seriously, not training well, etc. He also said he didn't want to talk to the press. There's something going on between Gamboa, Top Rank and Arena Box and Gamboa doesn't seem happy. This fight is just in the middle of it.
stop fcking lying idiot...Rios team already confirmed it will be at 135.
Rios has agreed to the fight,Gamboa side is hesitating for sum reason.
stop being an oversensitive btch. gamboa is the one pushing for this fight. yeah, rios wants it too he is a warrior and he has no problem with 135lb but for some reason his team is trying to make it at 140lb and they're asking gamboa right now. now go hide somewhere news reading insecure motherfuker
cuban, i agree wit u, yuri should say fuk the extra money n take the 750..but he looks confident for some reason so looks like he's trying to pull that extra do. imo he should do it at 135, jumping 3 weight classes would be fkin insane, he'd be giving too much
don't ask me where i know this from.. but yeah they still talking about it. gamboa accepted the fight at 135lb and if it works they will receive 750k each. gamboa was then approached and asked if he would still take the fight at 140lb, and he said yes, but only if he receives more money. so this is where the negotiations are now. it could be 135lb and everything would be fine, or 140lb, but then gamboa wants more money
To answer a few questions I received.
I don't live in Miami but I go there often, I spend a few months/year there. And I know about Gamboa's weight because:
- I have friends who promote a few fighters in Miami and they know Gamboa well, they told me.
- When Gamboa was arrested the police weighed him at 160lb.
- There is a latino boxing forum where most members are Cuban and some people from his entourage over there told us that he was weighing over 150lb just last week.
Fixed it for you Chirs John is still the super wba champ. I know you love your boy that good but dont give out false info.
Nope, Gamboa unified and he is the official super champ now. John, as a champion in recess, is being offered by WBA to fight Gamboa before mid-Jan to get his belt back, as the contender. Unfortunately, John doesn't want it and prefers to fight Saucedo in Indonesia in December. John's team is asking the WBA right now the permission to fight Saucedo instead of Gamboa and make the Gamboa fight later.
Is it safe to say that Mtagwa is Gamboa best win?
It at least debatable.
However, it is safe to say that Mtagwa is not Juanma best win. Not even close. Not even in the top 4.
That is all you need to know on who has fought the better opposition.
Are you on crack or something??? Mtagwa is one of the worst opponents Gamboa has ever faced. Mtagwa is a bum, everyone (including Gamboa) knew Gamboa was going to dispose of him in less than 3 rounds. Juanma was supposed to do the same thing. You like or not, more than half of the fighters in Gamboa's resume would beat Mtagwa real bad and most would even KO him. Juanma is a good fighter, he just had a bad night, but the night was so bad that it's almost incredible the way it happened. Mtagwa is a bum, a warrior bum but still a bum. No bum like that is supposed to make a quality fighter look like a newborn bambi.
I don't think we got the Luevano vs Lopez rating but I got this.
4/25/2009 - HBO - Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Gerry Penalosa - averaged 990,000 live viewers
Lopez is a draw, that's pretty decent for a B.A.D and fighting a relative nobody in Penalosa.
You're wrong...Internationally Gamboa is way a bigger draw than Juanma. How do I know? I live in french Canada and, to my surprise, sometimes in the local sports channel (RDS/TSN) they talk about Gamboa out of nowhere. I have never heard Juanma's name on TV yet tho. However you're right when you say that right now Juanma sells more in the States than Gamboa, which is simply explained by the high number of Ricans in the United States. Juanma is more of a national heroe than anything else. Gamboa has more popularity potential worldwide. The proof is that you can go to any Juanma fanpage (facebook for instance) and it's almost 98% Boricua. You go to a Gamboa fanpage and it's like 40% Cuban, 25% American and 35% European-Arab-Asian...
For a BAD HBO card (only available in USA, and even maybe PR?), Juanma will do better than Gamboa in the near term, however, if they both stay undefeated, Gamboa has more superstar potential for world wide and PPV audiences. Both of them are NOT big draws right now.
Rigondeaux doesn't need inside game. Before you even think about getting too close your liver will be laying all bloody on the floor and Rigo will be in his corner waiting for your count to reach 10.
I'm pretty sure hbo is pissed that juanma went to showtime.
nope actually... Arum wanted both Juanma and Gamboa in HBO, but in different dates. HBO said they only had one date available and they said they wanted Gamboa for that date. Juanma had to go to Showtime or no national TV for him. I didn't make this up, this is what happened, both HBO and Top Rank said it.
People always overrate past fighters and underrate current boxers. All three boxers you mentioned would be in the mix against prime MAB and Pacman @ 126. Some of them would beat them and some wouldn't, skill-wise all 5 of them are phenoms (maybe not Caba but he has that big reach and height advantage). Juanma is good at almost everything (his defense kinda sucks) but the best at nothing, except his punching power that is very special. That punching power would be very dangerous to Pacman since Pacman uses to get molested by light punches when they land flush. Gamboa, nothing to say, he tends to get cocky inside the ring and that could be extremely dangerous against such quality fighters, so he could get knocked out if he uses only the flash and forgets the substance, however I doubt he'd fight this way against the elite you are mentioning. Fighting smart he has all the tools to beat both Pacman and MAB @126. His power, speed and multi-dimentional style would be a nightmare for anyone.
Conclusion: I'd give a good shot to both Gamboa and Juanma. They'd lose some and they'd win some. I wouldn't bet my money on Caba but he could definately win if he fights right. Someday some retard dude will say that boxers from 2018 wouldn't be able to handle the best of 2010, it's always like that.
AS OF SEPT 14TH,
Newly unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gmaboa has been informed by the WBA that he has 120 days to face his mandatory challenger and fellow titlist Chris John
means they have two months to fight?
You're late homie. John, instead of fighting the best as he should, asked the WBA a special request to defend against another bum in december instead of Gamboa. They offered the WBA a lot of money and the WBA accepted his request. He will have to fight Gamboa right after that tho, or he will lose his belt.
