Nielsen Media Ratings for HBO/ESPN & Live Gate Figures Gamboa-Salido
by John Chavez
Sep 16, 2010 -
Here we go again boxing degenerates.
Ratings, live gate figures, and purses are figures included in this blurb.
I figure lets start to post a little more information out there and see what the boxing fanatics have to say.
Here are the latest television ratings provided by the Nielsen Media company.
9-11-2010 - HBO - Boxing After Dark - Yuriorkis Gamboa-Orlando Salido - 744,000 live viewers
9-12-2010 - ESPN - Replay of Klitschko-Peter bout- 501,000 live viewers
Here are the live gate and purse figures provided by the NSAC.
Gamboa-Salido at the Palms Casino & Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada
Tickets Sold - 1012
Live Gate revenue - $133,650
Yuriorkis Gamboa Purse - $350,000
Orlando Salido Purse - $90,000
Brandon Rios Purse - $85,000
Anthony Peterson - $70,000
I have no opinion of any of these figures. I'm merely reporting them my friends.

HBO numbers are caca, Gamboa is not a very good draw probably since he's so inconsistent. Sometimes he's fighting in the Matrix, other times he doesn't make up his mind and puts on sub par performances.
ESPN2 ratings were good since it was a delayed telecast, I'm sure most hardcore fans saw the fight live on ESPN3 and didn't even bother with the replay.
The paid gate was pretty weak, from what I remember Gamboa does pretty decent gates in Primm. Maybe they should keep him fighting there instead of Vegas.
Whaaa? TSN talking about Gamboa (outside of re-broadcasting HBO shows)?
The numbers seem about ok for BAD card which had almost no promotion.
The UFC show on S.pike only did 1.2 million and that channel has something like 60 million more subscribers.
Yeah ****e TV has more then 3 times the subscribers and couldn't even double this weak card.
And weak in the sense that it had no star power, still disappointing though. Really no way to spin it.
local sports channel (RDS/TSN)

these are good informations. thank you.
why do people get angry when people put up numbers for manny and floyd? i like to know what is going on the numbers.
Gamboa isn't helping himself out either. He needs to get serious when he's in that ring. Gamboa showboats a little too much and he's not good at it either. When you see guys like Roy Jones, Guzman and Whitaker showboat it's great stuff because,
1. Most of the time they already have their opponent dominated
2. They're actually good at it, they can clown and NOT get hit in the process, something Gamboa clearly can't do. So instead, he ends up lookin' stupid. I'm literally shaking my head as I watch him showboat.
Gamboa should work on his craft and not be overly dependent on his athletic ability. He's a bit too inconsistent with his performances in that, one minute he's blasting guys out, the other he's looking retarded and not so impressive. I didn't like his performance against Salido and I especially didn't like his performance against Barros; where all he did was pose a lot and failed miserably at tryin' to make Barros lead.
Good post. Gamboa is incredibly stressful to watch because you know he's full of talent but just doesn't seem to want to pull the trigger all of the time.
When in reality if he did, he would get each of his opponents out before the final bell. Maybe he's more cautious because he obviously has a weak chin??
He absolutely dominated Mtagwa but then clowned around with Salido and put a stinker on TV in my opinion.
I know styles make fights, but Gamboa's athletic ability is easily one of the best in the sport right now and should not be going the distance with opponents like Salido.

You're wrong...Internationally Gamboa is way a bigger draw than Juanma. How do I know? I live in french Canada and, to my surprise, sometimes in the local sports channel (RDS/TSN) they talk about Gamboa out of nowhere. I have never heard Juanma's name on TV yet tho. However you're right when you say that right now Juanma sells more in the States than Gamboa, which is simply explained by the high number of Ricans in the United States. Juanma is more of a national heroe than anything else. Gamboa has more popularity potential worldwide. The proof is that you can go to any Juanma fanpage (facebook for instance) and it's almost 98% Boricua. You go to a Gamboa fanpage and it's like 40% Cuban, 25% American and 35% European-Arab-Asian...
For a BAD HBO card (only available in USA, and even maybe PR?), Juanma will do better than Gamboa in the near term, however, if they both stay undefeated, Gamboa has more superstar potential for world wide and PPV audiences. Both of them are NOT big draws right now.
The figures are in the US for HBO.
And yes Juanma is still a bigger draw internationally too since they can buy the PPV's in Puerto Rico but in Cuba they can't support their fighters. Gamboa has fought in Germany but I don't see any evidence besides you're local sports channel talking about Gamboa that could make him the bigger star.
I think they both have the potential to become big stars if they start fighting each other and the best in the division. I can't say for certain who could be the bigger star but right now for certain Lopez is the bigger star.
to find out if you are really popular you gotta draw at least 1 million ppv buys for your mismatch fights against opponents 2 weight classes below you.
Penalosa's not a nobody. Pinoys were all drawn to boxing because of Pac. Just a fraction of Pac fans who got interested to see Penalosa will greatly affects that fight rating numbers.
yes he is a nobody.
I don't think we got the Luevano vs Lopez rating but I got this.
4/25/2009 - HBO - Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Gerry Penalosa - averaged 990,000 live viewers
Lopez is a draw, that's pretty decent for a B.A.D and fighting a relative nobody in Penalosa.

Gamboa is not much of a Draw by himself, he was fighting a NOBODY, Big Fights is what bring ratings not just one good boxer fighting a BUM
I disagree bro,Cotto fought foreman who was a nobody,And has the
highest rating on hbo so far.
Boa is not a star and no one cares about Salido, not even hardcore fans. This was more of a fight to get the young guys on HBO, than it was to get numbers.

You might be right on that, I'm talking more about the casuals but yeah the Flips knew who he was for sure.
