GGG could possibly unify the middleweight division, and still be a mediocre celebrity in the game. Without Mayweather, Pacquiao, Canelo, Cotto, Ward, and Froch, GGG is basically on the same level as Timothy Bradley!
GGG's popularity and fan base are growing with every fight he has. If he beats Lemieux for the IBF, then adds the WBC and lineal titles to his collection, he will be a PPV star in his own right.

Obviously, he would like to fight for the WBC and lineal titles against a big name star like Canelo or Cotto, but he doesn't need either of them. The titles are more important.

Please, remind me which weight class did Ward compete in the same Olympics...

It's very likely that Kovalev will knock Ward TFO.

Are you going to say Ward was hiding from that fight by trying to get GGG to move up instead?

            Thought not.

golovkin and ward are closer in size than golovkin and cotto.

cotto's best weight was 147 lbs. most of NSB wasn't watching boxing when cotto was a WW, and one of the best p4p fighters on the planet.

Kovalev couldn't knock the 50yr old, less athletic, washed up version of Ward TFO.
