Except, I dont believe the 164 demand was to gain leverage.

I dont think they want anything to do with Ward, period.

They certainly know that he cant make 164.

    I feel that way because.....
    * Loeffler/Sanchez have changed the subject whenever Wards name is mentioned for..... well, forever
    * They were happy to fight Froch/Chavez at 168
    * There are other ways to gain leverage that dont create such a negative perception for the fans.... you can see the basklash it caused, they should never have mentioned 164..... it would have been better to avoid discussing Ward

BUT, when you consider the " anyone from 154-168 " marketing spin that Team Golovkin have used to hype/propel his career over the last 3-4 years..... and the fact that they propositioned Chavez/Froch at the full divisional limit..... makes it a hard argument.

Not a good look, thats for sure.

I think that Cotto would fight him at 155-156, no problem at all.

The same weight-cut that Team Golovkin requested from Ward..... 4lbs.

I dont think that Canelo will fight Golovkin at 160 either.
"anyone from 154-168" doesnt necessarily mean "lets give up every negotiating advantage right from the start". And different fights have different economics. Ward once said he would go to 160 for Floyd, because of the economics of that fight. That doesnt mean he would do the same for say Andy Lee, because thats a different fight. So a concession that GGG might make to Froch has no relevance to what they would do for Ward. Now if the position is "164 or no fight", then its BS and should be called as such. But the negotiations didnt even get started, so nobody really knows whats possible, and what isnt. And did we hear a counter offer from Ward at 168? Nope. Why not?

except its not the same. Cotto is the lineal middleweight champ. The comparison to make would be if GGG went to 168 and won a title from someone, then as a reigning 168 champ turned around and said to Ward "164 or no fight, cause im not really a super middle doe". THAT would be BS, and people here would be going nuts about it. But since Cotto does it somehow he gets a pass.......

believe me, 99.5% of the "fans" wont know the first thing about it. Just because a few hundred of us hardcores argue about it on a boxing forum, that doesnt mean its page one news everywhere........

The article last Friday stated why.

And that is why I dont agree that the 164 request was just to gain leverage.

Discussions started, but they did not evolve into a negotiation, because they could not get past the catchweight demand.

Team Golovkin are absolutely 100% serious about the 164 catchweight.

              I cannot accept that.

Nah, I will never agree with that.

You just desperately want Cotto in the ring with Golovkin, and you dont care how/why.

Cotto needs to drop the strap for this reason.....
" every middleweight fight, will be at catchweight ".

If you cant handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

But I do not agree with your position.

FACT: Cotto is not a middleweight, he weighed 153 for his last fight

That is a 7lb difference..... more than a division.

Golovkin, despite stating that he will fight anyone from 154-168, demanded a catchweight from Ward, and that is apparently fine..... and yet Cotto (who is a genuine star, and clearly not a middleweight) has to front up at 160?

If this fcukery doesnt prove that catchweights are fkn absurd, and are ruining the sport..... then nothing will.

that is speculation, as none of us know the extent of the negotiation, or if there even was one. All we know was what was said in the media. Was a formal offer sent to Roc? Did Roc send a counter offer to K2 and get shot down? We dont know any of that, so its all speculation. All we know is that GGG said "lets do 50-50 on money and 50-50 on weight". What happened after that (if anything) none of us knows.....

look, I think all catchweights suck, but there certainly is a distinction between a champion demanding catchweights to other fighters IN THE SAME DIVISION, and 2 fighters from different divisions meeting in the middle.

                      WAR COTTO.
GGG and Sanchez have said all along that it is the belt they want. If Cotto wants to keep the belt he has to fight at 160. If not GGG will end up with the belt. Then GGG will have every middle weight belt in the world after he beats Lemieux. Then Canelo will fight GGG next year for all the marbles because it is more than likely that Canelo will beat Cotto
